Please let the gods of footy NOT give us Nigel fecking Adkins!
This would be a massive step backwards.
Kenny Jacket or the Cowleys, even Pulis but not Adkins. If he got the job over JJ you wouldn't blame him for not hanging around.
Pullis.....do me a favour, the bloke is anti football.
More importantly he's a busted flush. I'd say the same about Jackett. However I think you'll regret not going for the Cowleys.
I'm regretting Bowyer not leaving a month earlier, so that we could have appointed Paul Cook
This. If we do happen to sign an underwhelming manager I'm blaming the "Bowyer in" brigade as Cook had been sitting around for months pleading for a job.
Christ, Adkins is a shocker. He’s had one good spell in his career. Anything concrete to say it’s him or just whispers/the bookies.
3 promotions out of our league with 2 teams, promotion to the Prem, playoff pushes with Reading (missed out last kick of last day) and Sheff Utd (hopes ended a game out 2 before last day loss making it look worse than it was.)
He even won the League of Wales and had European football.
Is this a Ged Roddy connection & suggestion to Thomas Sandgaard ? Not sure of the style of his football and his football philosophy, if Adkins has one of those. Adkins win ratio is not that impressive and he has been fired quite a few times. Nigel Adkins will need to prove himself & win Charlton supporters over for sure, if he is the new manager.
My worry is the time elapsed since he last got a team promoted or into the play offs.
if I was looking at his cv with the aim of inviting him in for an interview, I would want to know why hasn’t he had a job for 18 months and what has he been doing to keep game/industry sharp during this time
Wow if it is Adkins how uninspiring. 8 years ago he had decent CV but he’s basically a retread and to the best of my knowledge has not been successful since 2013.
Great coach and wants to do management in the future I think. In all honesty I could see him replacing SG at Ibrox, unless he’s committed to SG in that sense. Much of our style is down to him. Views the game in a unique way and is very good tactically.
Contrary to the vast majority of comments I've seen on here today, I think Adkins would be a great appointment for where we're at currently. With Thomas' backing and his attacking style, I really think we could be a far better side than we have been for years. He's a better manager than Bow, no doubt in my mind about that.
I’m with you @ButtleJR. I don’t get all this negativity towards Adkins.
I’d be fine with him as the man to get us out of this division and back into being an established Championship side. After that we’d need someone else to fulfill TS European dream.
Previous page you said you thought we’d all be blindsided by the choice of new manager and now you’d be fine with Adkins. That’s hardly blindsiding us.
If you look at this from a business point of view which I'm sure TS will then someone like Atkins fits the bill with his CV. JJ is a big gamble in my opinion. Although I admit Atkins is a bit of a boring appointment I think that it would be a measured appointment. What's Paul Cook done that Atkins hasn't? Why was everyone so keen on Cook?

Forgive my directness but hes hardly set the world alight in his last 3 clubs. If it’s mid table mediocrity we are looking for he feels like a fit.

So if he comes in are our players going to regress so that we become a mid table side? Football management isn’t an exact science, there are so many variables that can affect success and i’d say quality of squad is a massive factor and we have a fairly decent one. Maybe you should look into his time at hull before deciding he would only make us a mediocre mid table side.
Hasn't won Premier title. Cafc fans love to moan Went to university Born across the Mersey from Liverpool

Ex Goal keeper
Reasons for Adkins: Three times promoted from League 1 Physiotherapist Intelligent Good man manager Calm under pressure 15 years younger than Roy Hodgson. Very good tactical manager
100% support from me who ever Thomas Sandgaard picks; unless it's Steve Evans or Tony Pulis. Karel Freye would be problematical.
Charlton fans have been underwhelmed since 1921.
He most recent time in L1, with Sheffield United is less convincing though
2014/15 - they finish 5th under Nigel Clough with 71 points 2015/16 - they finish 11th under Nigel Adkins with 66 points 2016/17 - they finish 1st under Chris Wilder with 100 points
A pessimist will say that was poor, an optimist would say he built the foundations for them to thrive the following season.
A realist will say one good season doesn't make a manager as one bad season doesn't make a manager.
They were in the hunt for the playoffs until a loss to Coventry on the penultimate game of the season killed their chances. A loss on the last day to Scunthorpe makes it look worse than it was!
If any of us want to employ the manager of our dreams then here’s what we do - come into considerably more wealth than TS, buy the club off him and then appoint whoever we want. Until that day we put our faith in the owner and his choice and support the club to the best of our abilities. There’s nothing else we can really do.
@Addicktion mentioned it late last night on P28 before this.
My post just above the one you quoted mentions Addicktion's post on page 28 - thought it was worth sharing RH's post in addition as that was when people really starting to believe it was a goer. :-)

Adkins left Reading in 2014, Roddy joined in 2017. If a connection exists, it's not an obvious one.

Paul Cook has had his success far more recently than Adkins, that's the difference
Won L2 in 2013/14 and 2016/17 Won L1 in 2017/18 with Wigan Kept Wigan up in 2018/19 Almost did a miracle in keeping Wigan up after a 12 point deduction in 2019/20
@995632 there’s been literally 100s of posts explaining why some are uphappy/uninspired/underwhelmed mate.
Was crawling through the thread later (only on this bit now...)... Sorry. Just finding the negativity to someone who arguably matches the criteria set by TS and experienced at getting 2 different sides out of this horrible league a bit baffling...

Yep I want us emulating Hull. He had the likes of Jared Bowen in the team and had just come down from the premier league. Keeping them up was hardly a miracle. Why do you believe that this squad minus the loans is much more than a 5-10th placed team? All of our best players left in July and most of the replacements have not shown top of the table quality outside of some of the loans.
So in the last 8 years what else can you point to that says he should be the man?
Charlton fans "Adkins?!? hasn't done it for years! No thanks!"
Also Charlton fans "Give it to curbs!"
I think that is the point... Why give it to someone who is Curbs without the Charlton connection when you can give it to curbs who lives and breathes Charlton

Adkins was managing in the championship in 2019. Curbs has actively avoided management for a decade

Has he still got it after some fallow years?
Question 1: where has this job for the boys/mate of Roddy stuff come from?
Question 2: how much of this is his agent sticking £50 on at the bookies to his client's name out there?
