I thought BJS just ran and jabbed, Canelo stalked him the whole fight, waited for him to tire and then stepped it up and he couldn't respond. BJS wasn't even close to winning that fight IMO.
I'm a BJS fan as a fighter, he's really talented but as a person (like Fury) he's an idiot and looks even more so after mugging off Dubois and then doing exactly the same. Guess that's karma I don't think we'll see BJS again unless he spunks his money.
I was expecting some kind of boxing masterclass from Saunders but he looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights. His boxing looked awkward and disjointed.
Canelo just stalked him, worked him out by throwing faints and it was only a matter of time before he caught him.6 -
Seen it again, Canelo was not troubled at all but was landing beefy body shots from the start.5

That sort of injury will make him second guess everything that gets thrown at him the ring and will breed a huge amount of uncertainty and caution. Something he may have never experienced before.0 -
Lets face it Kell Brook hasn't been the same since. He was top draw before that career ending fight with GGG
On that subject the hype for Canelo vs. GGG III seems to have almost disappeared0 -

see no point in that... outside of Andrade and Plant there isnt a single fight I'd have any interest of watching, and to be honest, I think he walks through those relatively comfortably. Bivol and Beterbiev are fights that would have me on the edge of my seat.

But the attitude and disrespect that those two throw around will always come back to haunt them - to the casual fan BJS is looking like a bit of a numpty today 'quitting' after getting solidly beaten for 8 rounds0 -
Realistically he'll have to move up.
Heard him recently say he wants to fight for 7 more years (i'll be pretty surprised if he does) but once he takes out Plant to unify the division there's no one left for him at his current weight except Benavidez.
Jermall Charlo i read is talking about moving up to face him.0 -

I think Andrade may have a while to wait!!

That's a side to Canelo you rarely if ever see - very funny!!

Seems like the 'corner pulling him out' is to save face.7 -

Seems like the 'corner pulling him out' is to save face.100%It also had the potential, if he had answered the bell for round 9, to result in life changing/life limiting injury - or even worse. If Tibbs hadn't stopped it he would have been guilty of gross negligence.I'm not sure @SELR_addicks has grasped the full nature and extent of the injury BJS suffered. Saunders' mistake (and crassness) was in calling out Dubois and claiming he would still fight on with two busted eye sockets or worse. (Dubois was class by the way with his tweet on Sunday).

Billy Joe Saunders is a gobby, self assured traveller. You will find people with similar personalities in boxing gyms all over the UK. Gypsies are tough, its just in them, they are also prone to saying and doing incredibly stupid or crass things.
I signed into the app to let one of the blokes at work watch it and he gave every round to Alvarez for walking down Saunders. I still disagree, regardless of whether or not thats what was happening you don't win rounds of boxing by showing menacing intent. BJS is a career middleweight and has never been a big hitter as his style is coming into the pocket and firing off fast, scoring combinations and moving outside again and he did that well in this fight. @bobmunro has it right. BJS is world level, elite level at doing that but Alvarez is a different level and has another gear, even if I think Golovkin beat him in the first fight.
Breaking eye sockets and cheekbones is a nasty business and for anyone who has not been in a situation where you are in a physical pugilisitic contest with one of the finest boxers on the planet with an injury like that its probably best not to comment on quitting. Mark Tibbs did the right thing, as did Dominic Ingle for Kell Brook and Daniel Dubois made an unsurprising decision against Joe Joyce. John Murray has no vision in his right eye from not making decisions like that and Kevin Mitchell is lucky to have the use of both eyes still8 -
There's a bad eye injury and there's what sounds like broken bones,.big difference.0

Some people make the mistake of thinking of boxing as different to other sports, and that there is a warrior code, that means you fight through whatever the circumstances - again total nonsense. It is a sport - pure and simple - and if you are badly injured in the ring (like Dubois), then like any other sport, you should get yourself out of harms way, and come back another day - no shame in that.
Any trainer who let their fighter go out with a fractured eye socket/cheekbone should lose their license for life, and I am so glad that Mark Tibbs took the sensible route, as to let BJS continue would have been against his principles of a 'duty of care' to his fighter.
It is irrelevant to me what BJS has said and done before the fight, you don't have to like him as a person - just admire him as a fighter, and for what it's worth I thought that he nicked a couple of rounds, but as Steve Bunce always says, he was fighting at maximum just to stay in the fight, and over twelve rounds against a legendary fighter like Canelo, that is never going to be enough.
As far Canelo - he is now running out of opponents, surely he'll have to go back up to light heavyweight again?8 - Sponsored links:

Like you said, didn't seem to have much power beind his shots but that was punch perfect. European title level and didn't give the other fella winning 30 seconds of that, never mind a round0

Agree on Richards he has the look, the charisma and the silky skills to be a big star.
but while he was tactically & technically very good it was a dull watch. I never once felt he wanted to get him out of there... was so bored I fast forwarded the 2nd half.
I truly think JB is the real deal he’s an absolute predator. Only problem is this division is pretty loaded and the Champs are serious fighters.2 -
Has to be JB vs Yarde next1
