NO!! they want to play us off and fall back on us if no one else wants them, there just trying to keep us sweet. Just get rid of them and start again with players that actually want to be here !!!
So unrealistic.
They are professional footballers, it's their livelihood. Of course they look around to see what else is on offer and compare that with our offer.
Just as players at other clubs last season are looking at what we've offered and are deciding whether to stay with the other club or join us.
If they join is it because they "want to be here" and they are fulfilling their life's ambition of playing for Charlton in league 1 or because we made the best offer? I think we all know the answer.
They are not fans, it's a job to them. Yes, once they have signed I expect them to show loyalty and commitment to the club and team and they have and will but let's not get high and mighty about this when other players who have been let go are described by fans demanding loyalty as "deadwood", "shit", "not good enough" etc etc.
This is why there is no point Adkins or anyone else at the club trying to explain to some fans what is happening.

Its hardly new in any new job that you are given a time in which you sign the contact/offer or the company looks elsewhere. Imagine YOUR employment. How long do you think YOUR employer/new employer would wait whilst you mulled over the different job offers you had. 2 weeks I reckon before the offer was rescinded & the company went back to their 2nd choice. Slightly different in football but still the premise applies that you can't keep employers hanging on indefinitely. If they hadn't signed by the time their contract ends on 30th June then we move on. Time to get hard with them - time for them to shit or get off the pot.2 -
sign up early and you are a truly loyal player - sign up after the deadline and we are the best u could get1

Trouble with playing hard ball is that the player can say no, if they want to take that risk, and you may then have destroyed any good will that existed.
And the more players we say no to the fewer we have to choose from. It's all very well coming over all macho but it can be cutting off your nose to spite your face.
In private I'm sure that GR, SG, NA and TS say things like "He's taking the piss here, let's look at some one else" but not in public and not to the agent or player so as not to close the door.
Because that player might decide we are the best offer and come back and say "I'll take your £1k pw over being unemployed"
As the SLP article says Gallen is speaking to them. He's negotiating.
My guess is that SG/NA are the good cops and GR/TS are the bad cops in this7 -
I wonder if someone is being just a little bit crafty with the timing of Adkins' interview. People starting to wonder what is happening with the contract offers and the club gets to say "Well, they are telling us they want to stay but not signing."
Tips the focus/pressure onto the players somewhat.0 -

He's not said he doesn't want to come back (not publicly anyway) but he hasn't signed.
The club could sign Charlie Savetheball, who's contract expired at Northernmilltown FC, tomorrow and Fred Gloves, an upcoming young keeper from Depressingcostalresort AFC on Sunday and suddenly we have two keepers and AMB goes out on loan.
When Amos rings up on Monday saying "Gaffer, I'll take the deal" Nige can say "Unemployment is brilliant, whatever you do today, and it won't be signing for Charlton, keep a smile on your face, Ben"
We'd don't need to say and we shouldn't say, until Charlie and Fred are announced on some electronic communication channel run by Charlton Athletic, that the door is closed to Amos as there is no benefit to us.
Gallen might hint at other keepers, we might leak stories about Charlie and Fred being on our radar to encourage Ben but deadlines are just that. After them the deal is dead and we've killed it.3 -
New rumour - Aneke isn’t signing for Coventry. That’s one club down, just need confirmation for rest of the clubs who are possibly interested.2

If you want the Pompey keeper, and he is prepared to sign for x amount, which is what you want to pay him, you offer him x and if he signs you then tell Amos sorry you have had too long etc.
You don't say its the xth of June, sign or jog on.1 - Sponsored links:

Only there is no need, as I said, to say anything to Amos, no benefit to giving him a deadline, you just go ahead and sign the other keeper and THEN withdraw the offer
People are suggesting we withdraw the offer BEFORE we've signed another keeper6 -
Pre-season starts before deadline closing day. The club has made it clear they would like a squad together before pre-season.Whether we allow players who we want to keep but have not agreed contracts to join in with pre-season is a judgement call.
I would say no. Sign up by the start of pre-season or miss out. If you’re still around and we want you after Pre-season we’ll talk then about your reduced terms.1 -
As I suspected above .
Declan John has rejoined Bolton after his loan spell there .
Lets get the free agent left back list out again .0 -
I cannot hide the excitement of waiting for a group of players who collectively fucked up our promotion hopes last year to deem to sign again for us.
Gonna be a long summer!2 -

This is mainly because of the saga we had with Ben Reeves. Waited weeks & weeks & weeks for him to make up his mind & he finally joined us just days before the season started. Missed pre-season so he was not fully fit & then never really got 100% up to speed. Player didnt do himself or us any favours. Players finished the season at the start of May & those out of contract knew by the end of May if they were being offered a new contract. Pre-season starts at the end of June & its good to get the majority of players in & fit to play during July. That gives any player plenty of time to mull over any offers they might have elsewhere & imo if you are still undecided come July you are either not that sought after or the deals are not worth worrying about.0 -

Got to judge it by each player. Reeves was a decent squad player but not someone who could transform the team.0 -

492 posts since last I looked - maybe there is rumour of an incoming player or confirmation of an out of contract player signing ? 🤔
Maybe its better to take another look in another 3 weeks after the Euros⚽️ & July 1st when lots of contracts end1 -
