-So TS is on the UK vaccination programme.
    -Errrrr, no
-His job is on the list of exemptions. -Errrrr no.
    -He's rich.
    -You got it third try.

I mean... one of the exemptions is owning a UK based business isn't it?
    No.

Like their new centre back gifting our second goal to Davison. How much did he cost? I do worry about Palace with Viera....no seriously I really do ...
According to transfermarkt (I know), they paid 3 million quid for him three years ago. Mad.

    Encouraging pre-season so far.

We just need someone to point out we still need some players for the 1000th time.

I quite like the look of both Clare and Dobson, I'd say in terms of a first team we're not far off now. But in terms of a whole squad there's a fair amount to do otherwise we're one or two injuries away from a totally damp squib.

I looked it up on the government website and being a company owner isn't on the list. If I'm missing something then fair enough but I'd like to know what it is.

I thought it was as didnt he turn up at the Palace friendly last year straight from the Airport?

Was certainly one friendly when he did that

I think these ps games have shown what Adkins has been working on you can see a marked difference in how the team are playing compared to last season. I'm really not as worried as the majority on here about next season. We will get promoted no problem. Although I said that last year 🤭🤭🤭 in my defense we should have and would have if it wasnt for "The Dark Lord" who improves everyone he comes into contact with lol

From last season under Bowyer with the midfield 3 which included Watson and/or Pratley to what we saw today, just wow.

Put it in the wrong thread but like the look of Mendez Gomes. Tidy player.
    He plays for Luton though.

    We have Madger Gomes.

6 players in Purrington, Schwartz, Watson, JFC, Innis and Gilbey all missing and all seasoned pros who (with exceptions n of Schwartz) would be in and around the first team.  Palace were awful.  We gave them both of their goals.

We still need a lot of strengthening but it was promising.

    So so many positives.

Matthews and Gunter both looked so much sharper than they did early last season.

The starting midfield 3 looked well balanced and a good combination.  Supported the high press well.  Dobson looks a player, a poor man's Kalvin Phillips.

DJ looked good, I would say he has a much higher ceiling than Doughty.

Stockley and Washington did what Stockley and Washington do.  Washington isn't a winger, but didnt play as one.

That's the best I have ever seen Barker play, against the best team I have seen Barker play against.

Deji is going to be a super star, if he keeps his head down but not yet.

Gomes is worth a year, even if it just allows Vennings a year on loan, he looks like he needs more mens football.

Gandor and Claydon look like they could be options from the bench this season.

Dempsey isn't the same player I have seen before!

Davison is good enough as striker 3 or 4.

The negatives are all so painfully obvious.

We need a left back and a center half yesterday.

We probably need a "better" midfielder but I am not sure of what type because I still have no idea what he is. Is Albie a 10, an 8, a 6?

We need another winger and striker.  Again, like Morgan, Davison needs to work out what type of striker he is.  He, again, is neither one type or another.

Loads of positives.  If you factor in that Inniss, Gilbey and Purrington would probably be in our first 11 we just need that little bit of quality and a little bit more depth.

Gunter and especially Matthews are showing signs of benefiting from a proper pre-season that I thought was missing last year, its even more frustrating for Gilbey on that basis - Barker certainly looked better today compared to the rest of the times I've seen him this summer.

When you talk about Dempsey are you saying you're impressed, or do you think he's gone massively backwards?

Dempsey?  Impressed, not sure it's enough, I though Gomes was better, but previously when I have seen him I thought he was well put of his depth.  Before anyone jumps in I thought he was quite good against Reading as well.  I was shocked he got another year though especially at his age.  But what do I know he could be the next Harry Arter.

Worth noting before people get too carried away
    a) that wasn't a full strength Palace side
    b) their first game is a week after ours, so they're in a different phase of pre season and match fitness to us

But there were promising signs, as with our other matches. The big test will be Fulham on Saturday as you imagine they'll be playing pretty much a full strength side

And that is why we need a much bigger first team squad than we have, and very quickly. Our defensive options already look threadbare. Lets not make the same mistake as last year by hoping we can keep injury prone players fit and bringing injured players back too quickly.

Couldn’t watch the game and I know it ultimately means nothing but interesting we got a better result against Palace than the champions Ipswich...

Another good workout , with a draw probably about right . Everyone played well , even Gunter, and good to see Charlie Barker back on form .

Only problem is that those 3 (probably the best/closest to the first choice of the 6) are more than likely going to be insured/recovering for a good proportion of the season, bringing back unpleasant memories of last season's farce where both Famewo and Innis were "close to recovery" for about three months.

This means that either the first team is going to be weaker than hoped or more business done than planned. Not really Adkins'/Sandgaard's fault but does mean more work (or a serious and genuine scaling back on ambitions) for both given the confidence they expressed.

It might be a year too soon but I do wonder if Davison could mirror what Karlan did in our promotion season. Go away the season before and get minutes and experience then come back firing. Everything minus the January sale please.
