Is this the guy who's wife said he can't retire because he hasn't got a pension?2 -

I assume they have a replacement lined up, as the timing mid season seems unusual
Sue wasn't going to give up her vol-au-vents that easily.

Think the heading should say retired, he has been one loyal servant to the club, top fella!6

Hope that Chris has a long and happy retirement.
I should imagine that it will be difficult to fill his shoes, he must have such a wealth of knowledge.14 -
Hopefully we’ll bring in an exciting and hungry young club secretary on the way up rather than one on the decline after leaving a bigger club.11

Hope he writes a tell all biography to fund his retirement.I would buy it !10

Great club servant is Chris, know him well and he was a long time very good friend to my Dad and always looked out for him.

My reading of that is that it is being instigated by Parkes rather than the other way round. Thst how others read?1

The first 4 pages of this thread. Ouch.
Enjoy your retirement, Chris.0 -

He and a few others were very harshly targeted as some kind of traitor during some darker recent times, but it's thanks in no small part to loyal, honest, and hardworking, true Charlton people, like Chris, working through those difficult periods that the club got through that time with its soul intact. It's a very well earned retirement.14

A great servant to Charlton Athletic went up even further in my estimation when he fronted up to a member staff being abusive to a colleague.Enjoy your retirement Chris. 👍💪9

Great servant to the club … very well earned retirement3

And the Mrs can be an ambassador to the buffet menu.
CP a Charlton legend, enjoy your retirement.3 -
Happy retirement, Chris0

No mention of who will take his place so, it looks like it was Chris`s decision. Very surprised he will not get some form of pension after spending half of his life serving Charlton - so conscientiously.
He has been "part of the furniture" at the club throughout many periods of turmoil and it will feel a little unnerving for me when he is not there to act as an "old head" when the pressure is on again.
Have a long and happy retirement Chris, you deserve it!

Charlton legend.
I really hope he has a long happy and deserved retirement and is always very welcome at the Valley.
The next appointment needs to be as thorough and meticulous as Chris.
Very best wishes.3 - Sponsored links:

Good luck Chris.
A life time fan and long term employee, I'm glad he's going to be ambassador so his knowledge isn't lost.

Good luck on his retirement and the ambassador role. Ferrero Rochers in the boardroom?0

Obviously his choice so he can do what he likes but seems a bit odd to leave at the end of Feb rather than see out the season.
Fair play to him though, he's been a tremendous servant to the club.1 -

Appointed by Mike Norris, from a local estate agent's I believe. Met Chris a couple of times, once in Belgium, during the Duchatelet years. Very honest, hard working guy. I wish him all the best, and thank him for all the hard work through many dark years.4
