Currently having a go on this (not my picture).
I'm not one for elaborate descriptions and detailed tasting notes, but this is spectacular. Cask strength and a huge punch on it, quite raw and rough around the edges, but bloody spectacular nevertheless.3 -
Good investment?
A rare cask of whisky bought for £5000 in 1988 was bought by an expat who forgot about it until Macallan Distillery, Moray, Scotland, called to say that it was still at the warehouse.
It would yield 534 70cl bottles and online bids have already hit £130,000.
Whisky Hammer, the auctioneer, expects it will break the £439,000 record.

More or less worked my way through this now, and all the positive comments have been right. Very decent indeed.seth plum said:Not Whisky, but just got given this American version.
Any good?
I am going off some of the inner Hebridean stuff like Laphroaig and Talisker anyway.
My dream is a superb (and affordable!) Speyside malt like the stuff produced by Dalmore...only better!
Have not tried the King Alexander as it is beyond what I can afford.0 -
Glenfarclas have had a break-in at their visitors centre and £100k of their most valuable bottles were nicked.

What a shame. Was only up there a couple of months back. Such nice people running things up there.0 -

Me and a mate are thinking about buying a cask of Bruichladdich, Caol Ila or something similar, does anyone have any expertise on this?0

Did you do this?PopIcon said:Me and a mate are thinking about buying a cask of Bruichladdich, Caol Ila or something similar, does anyone have any expertise on this?0 -
No expertise but looked into a bruichladdich one myself a few years ago, as they had recently renopened. I think it was about a grand to buy and store for ten years, then about three grand in tax when it came.to bottling. I think you could.sell some back to the distillery to cover costs. Didn't in the end as I didn't want loads of bottles of the same whisky,.but it works out a decent price.PopIcon said:Me and a mate are thinking about buying a cask of Bruichladdich, Caol Ila or something similar, does anyone have any expertise on this?
Didn't realise carol ila did it,.but might look into it as they are my favourite0 -

I tried a 30yo Brora once. Excellent dram but even at the time (15 years ago) it was way out of my price bracket. I think it was £925 a bottle0 -
My brother has sent me over the latest release from the shed distillery.2 -
Looks very intersting. Pinot noir cask should give a fruity note to it.0

My Dalmore is running out.
It is a bit expensive.
I saw Tovess 12 year old Speyside for sale on Amazon for £25, anybody know if it is any good?0 -
My wife brought this present back on a trip to Ireland, a Tullamore aged in a Bordeaux cask. Astoundingly smooth and a flavour almost like honey.Alex Wright said:Looks very intersting. Pinot noir cask should give a fruity note to it.

Talisker 10yo is currently £30 in Sainsbury's - online and in store. Outstanding value.

I’ve been really in to American whiskeys/bourbons recently. I’ve tried the usuals, Buffalo Trace, Jim Beam, Makers Mark, Gentleman Jack, Eagle Rare and my current favourite Wild Turkey 101. Anyone have any recommendations?0

Four Roses small batch Bourbon is a good everyday nip.1

My favourite go to bourbon is Woodford Reserve.cafc_harry said:I’ve been really in to American whiskeys/bourbons recently. I’ve tried the usuals, Buffalo Trace, Jim Beam, Makers Mark, Gentleman Jack, Eagle Rare and my current favourite Wild Turkey 101. Anyone have any recommendations?
I'm a lover of rye whisky as well - Bulleit Rye and many of the Sazerac family - although their plain rye is pretty good without having to spend a fortune. I love Rittenhouse ryes as well.
I sound like a right old soak!!3 -
Makers is great but for me you can't go wrong with a Bulleit Bourbon. My favourite go to bourbon.cafc_harry said:I’ve been really in to American whiskeys/bourbons recently. Old Forrester was on offer in Tesco so picked that one up, not quite up there with Makers and Wild Turkey but in the mix above Gentleman Jack.0

The standard bullet bourbon makes a great old fashioned and is also usually a very good price on Amazon ... Agree in Woodford reserve toobobmunro said:
