Feel as though there are two or three positions up for grabs at max for next Saturday...

    (1) - Who joins Morgan and Fraser in Midfield
    (2) - Who plays on the opposite wing to Blackett-Taylor
    (3) - I suspect it'll be Stockley, but might yet be Aneke
Has Fraser done enough pre season / ever?
Been one of our best players in pre-season for me
Good to read.  He was one of the positives from last season for me, even though we hardly saw him.  He’s one player I think is capable of a promotion winning team from this league.

Enjoyed the game, Innis needs replacing with new CB, Stockley unsuited to new tactics needs replacing, thought Morgan played very well, hoping that Dobson and Morgan can play together in the same team.

Thought we played some nice football. Clare was very good, impressed with Fraser, McGrandless and Morgan, Blackett-Taylor looked very lively. Have to say I think we’ll struggle up front and centre backs looked a bit dodgy 2nd half. That Kyle Naughton is some player, looked like he could play in the Prem.

We are "better" than last year.  Football as we will want to see it is trying to be played.

    Leaburn needs a loan
    Stockley needs crosses
    Sessesgnon needs a left foot
    The side needs more goals
We will be short of them this season currently.

Asking too much of zstokley to play with the ball at his feet. To slow running and turning.
If we are relying on him and an injury prone Aneke God help us.

Still amazed at how many people just shout “forward” and “get it up”.

Football has changed. Possession based and high press football is the fashionable style at the moment - it won’t win every game but if you get it right, you’ll get the result more often than not.

I do smirk at the contradictions though when it is “hoofed” and the same people shout “keep hold of the bloody ball, keep it simple.”
I did see Garner turn around with a surprised look near full time when 'forward' was being yelled at anybody.

Stockley is not a scapegoat at all. He just can't play football on the floor. His first touch is awful. Great in the air from balls in the box and can hold it up sometimes but doesn't suit tika taka football.

Na he is though isn't he?

Is it the best of his game? No

Can he do it? Course he can and has showed he can.

It's just easier to give him grief.
I don't think you understand the word scapegoat
    I do ta 👍
So you know that criticising Stockley's own lack of quality, with the ball at his feet, isn't scapegoating then.

baring in mind half the team played yesterday and won 3 - 0 and today was very promising too , i’m starting to think of garner gets the right blend and maybe 2 / 3 more players we should be in a decent position this season

Stockley showed last season that he can score with 13 league goals, but most of that was from into him in the penalty area and at that he is fine. This new system does not suit him at all and really the club should replace him if the current style of play is adopted for the season

Stockley looked out of place today in this system, if he drops deep to link up he can't get into the box quick enough for a cross or cutback and if he stays right up top he looks isolated, performances like that i can't imagine he will be starting week in week out, especially when another forward comes in

  • On the train home and I was impressed all the new signings seemed decent McGrandes had a decent half and you can see Payne has goals in him. Don’t see why Fraser is being criticised as thought he worked hard and did well. Both Morgan and Claire were excellent as was the keeper

Stockley will score we know that give him time to work within the new system

All the youngsters did well and Miles is quicker than his Dad

    Could be a good season
  • With the right match day ticket pricing that sort of performance could attract some pretty decent sized attendance figures this season

Christ, one poor half and Stockley is a “donkey” all of a sudden. Let’s completely forget the 20 goals he scored in our terrible side last season, shall we?
Maybe, but he really does not fit in to what we want to do this season.

Leaburn showing promise but not ready for League One. Stockley does not fit the system and Aneke a crock.
    Looking good up front.
First game I've watched this season and this pretty much sums up how I feel about our options up front. We need another striker urgently, otherwise we can write this season off.

We lost that because we had a full game yesterday with our other squad and the lack of an out and out striker up top (oh for a Hales or Mendonca type!).
The entire squad looks pretty strong now with options, but we definitely need a solid striker.

    Wollacott  ok
    Clare MOM
Inniss  Looked tired towards the end
    O'Connell  pretty good
    Sessegnon  out of position
    Morgan  good
    Fraser  poor
McGrandles/ Payne  Both ok, but no upgrade on JFC
    CBT  electrifying
Leaburn  Not ready, missed our only real chance
    Stockley  Stockley

Sorry to bang on about it, but we need a goalscorer

This is roughly my assessment too.

Some good passing & attacking play but ultimately it all fell down because we just dont have enough where it matters - up front. I keep getting barated on here when I mention that Stockley only scored 13 in the League last season but I'm betting more than 50% were with his head & so this season he'll be lucky to break into double figures.

We simply have to get in another striker. People keep saying we will but I have a sneaky feeling that we wont, or if we do it will be a'Prenir League loanee with less experienced than Leaburn.

I think Wollacott was a bit better than ok. Made some great saves, distribution was mostly good as well. If there was any doubt in Garners mind I think he secured the GK spot for next week today

The thing the worries most, rather than Stockley, is that if playing how we are, you really need players to be hungry to up their goals tally. We get in the box and manage to tackle ourselves. Teams like Swansea (and many we faced last season) have real intent when in those areas.

Agree with the general sentiment here. The squad is just missing a quality strker. If we manage to get one this squad would be transformed from promotion possibles to promotion probables. Let's hope our wishes are fulfilled.

Please, how can you make a statement like that after both making their debuts and only playing bit parts in the game, give them a chance before you nail them to the wall like that, "no upgrade on JFC"...🤷‍♂️
  • It is honestly Criminal we are going into the season with stockley  (jury out if he suits this formation) aneke (always crocked)and leaburn (not ready) as our forward options. Have we not learnt from previous mistakes ?

I’ll be happy if they are both as good as JFC then that’s 2 good signings that are the level we need

I have sympathy with this tempered by the fact that 1. The season hasn’t yet started and 2. The window is still open.

Talk about setting yourself up for a fall!

Do you feel like this squad should be winning every game then?

Same - we really need a Washington/Davison replacement and that means enhanced versions if looking to improve. It will all come together, just not which year.

Crikes, Carlo Leaburn is a big lad sitting up there in the West stand.

In terms of their impact on the game compared with having watched JFC for 5 years maybe?
