And I now wonder if Tommy Guitar overestimated the really rather weak local economy in our chunk of SE London, saw the riches of Canary Wharf over the river and thought he was onto something he could built up quickly by attracting an imaginary crowd of floating voters with plenty of disposable who’d love nothing more than a wet Tuesday night of League One football.

I have zero sympathy for the egotistical prick as he refused to sign a CEO or listen to anyone prepared to give advice.
I now think he's looking to sell and the sooner the better.0 -
Whoever sent that is clearly a very well educated high flyer.
If that is all true then they are an expert in; immigration law, football transfer and recruitment policies, contracts of employment and job descriptions, broadcasting and intellectual property rights, marketing, GDPR and privacy/human rights laws - oh, and tittle tattle!
I've been working in my field for 30+ years and I haven't even begun to acquire the mastery this person clearly has over so many complex areas. Very impressive.19 -

I've got two boys. I tried my best to get my eldest involved in following us. It was a struggle. This was in the midst of the early Duchatelet years.
I could barely watch myself so getting a young boy to persevere was nigh on impossible and I've pretty much lost him to the huge pull of the premier League I'm ashamed to say.
I promised myself that I'd push Charlton on my second son with more vigour. And it worked. He loved going and we got the feel of Bowyer really building something. We went when we could and the playoff final blew him away. I even got my eldest taking more of an interest.
Fast forward to now. I've got that sinking feeling again. It's a real struggle and my youngest is waivering. He loves his football. As does his brother. They both play on Sundays. I tried to get them to watch yesterday. They lasted minutes.
I sold it as a chance to watch a professional outfit and how they handle the ball and position themselves.I can't even use our performances as a form of training exercise. This group of players do so much of the basic stuff wrong. It's pitiful to watch.
I don't know what is happening to this football club, but it appears to be going down the tubes at a fair old whack. No urgency or pride. No plan.
Whatever it is it's losing its potential audience at an alarming rate. Something needs to change.

One key thing to remember is, the world is now in a depression and the loaded oligarchs and the likes are feeling the squeeze. The only ones still in the black are likely to be the kind of owner we don't want (on moral grounds), thus we are reliant on an honest businessman made good, giving it a go.
Has Thomas bitten off more than he can chew? It certainly looks like it, but our slump began before him and there is no guarantee that a new broom would bring prompt success. Better the devil you know, as they say, perhaps Thomas isn't the devil, more just misguided, misinformed and lacking the physical and financial resources to compete with the bigger And smaller, better run and funded clubs.

The main thing that worries me most, is that should TS want to get out now, there's a good chance he'll want he's money back and, going by the rumoured £8m a year losses, that's gonna be approx £16m.
That would mean that the Club AND the assets will each be owned by a stubborn ****, who wont budge an inch on their respective ridiculous price tags.1 -

If his asking price goes up by around 8m a year it will soon be like Duchatelet's mad valuation of The Valley. And he will lose another 8m standing still while no one buys the club2

Say he wants £5m for the club. If he sold in a years time, he would have lost it and some. Best surely to let it go for £1 now. If somebody is willing to take us on.0

Of course there's something we can do. A Delia Smith style shaart aaart rant message to any prospective new owners out there would be a start. "We need a new owner here. Where are you? Where are you? Let's be havin' you. Come on!"

Lots of chat and thoughts about TS and his plans or not to sell, also about his supposed lack of cash or expertise in running our great club, I keep recalling talk from one of the original snakes trying to run us into the ground, maybe Fartsmell or possibly it was Elliot, but they kept saying that "Thomas has no money" or words to that effect, and all will become clear... well I certainly scoffed as I would think the rest of us did....well, here we are now...
Don't know the inner thinking of Thomas or the gang, but we either need some change at the top, or a quick change of direction to where we are heading and it ain't up at the moment..2 -

in any event, the point is that he has to find the extra money if he remains owner. He can ask what he likes of a purchaser but in the meantime he has to cover the losses one way or another. He isn’t going to break even by cutting costs or increasing revenue.11 -

There's only two basic types these days at the higher level - crooks and ego maniacs. (The third option of "local lads/fans made good" has largely disappeared from the higher levels of the game. You need to be a multi-billionaire - or a sovereign state - to play with the big boys.)1 -
