Darren Bent

Annoyingly, if Bent had his first season again with us in the premier league at this moment in time - he would be worth £50-80m+!He would be being touted for England and foreign teams would be taking strong interest...
yet all we got was £20m and he barely played for England ever!0 -
It was a good fee at the time. The fact we a) got relegated with him in the team and b) got relegated again 2 seasons later in a bit of a state financially, despite having parachute payments, the fee for Bent and plus decent fees from the sales of Diawara, Reid, and Bougherra really highlights the absolute piss poor management of the club from almost the moment Curbs walked out the door.sammy391 said:Annoyingly, if Bent had his first season again with us in the premier league at this moment in time - he would be worth £50-80m+!He would be being touted for England and foreign teams would be taking strong interest...

Impressive in that video how quickly, and frequently, Chrissy Powell got to the scene of the goal celebrations.6

He was on Ben Fosters Podcast recently, spoke a bit about us and also how Curbishley tried to sign him at west ham before he joined spurs, they even offered him better money.1

Of the ex-Charlton-players-become-pundits bingo card, I doubt many of us would have put Darren Bent down on it when he was playing for us1

Saw the fantasy football show last night and when he popped up found it hilarious as i hadn't seen his interview for Sunderland when he mistakenly said great win for Charlton, quite a funny little mock up too. What i would give even for a league one Darren Bent, someone who can score and trouble defenders2

The Fantasy Football League reboot isn’t as terrible as I feared it would be0

Absolute legend -
He's hugely fond of us still.

His first season with us he was almost Ian Wright mk2.
The long ball for him to run on to, then goal
He was a joy to watch.14 -
One of the three best in my time supporting Charlton with Clive and Hunty and he did it at a higher level than their best seasons. Pity the wheels came off in 05/06 as him, Rommedahl and Thomas up front were briefly electric .5

Should have been selected for England instead of that Arsenal reject that did not get picked during tournament

I was playing snooker with a mate who supports Spurs - we were talking about whether it would be Bent or Defoe, or whether both might go as Owen/Rooney weren't fully fit.ross1 said:Should have been selected for England instead of that Arsenal reject that did not get picked during tournament
Then saw the announcement on the TV in the bar - never would have guessed the answer was going to be neither, we're taking a 17 year old who hasn't even played top flight football yet, because he's a bit quick.

As we have discovered, England was a clique in those days. It's a shame as Bent had attributes that would have been good against teams without too much pace in defence which was quite a lot of international sides at the time. With us we sought to get him in behind playing off the shoulder. Players like Gerrard played balls out wide where he had to battle and it wasn't his game. Probably an indicator why the so called golden generation amounted to nothing. Give Southgate credit, he put all that crap to bed.ross1 said:Should have been selected for England instead of that Arsenal reject that did not get picked during tournament7 -
Imagine if he didn't get injured. Dazza just said on Talksport, that his dad said to him that he knew he had made it as a footballer when he signed for Charlton.23

Dazza? FFS can’t you do better than that?1
