Should have given him the Stan Mortenson trophysoapboxsam said:Mbappé golden boot winner with 8 goals and scores hat trick in the World cup final which for always will be know as the Messi Final; That's showbiz.1 -
The BBC talk about Messi's son and that weight of expectation. Imagine being Benjamin Aguero - not just having to live up to his Dad's footballing exploits but also having Messi as your Godfather and Maradona as your Grandfather. The boy should become a musician rather than a sportsman.5

Best World Cup final in the best World Cup, ever.

Argentina won the last world cup before Messi was born and the first won since Maradona died.5

Messi: Alexis Mac, where are you often to next week after celebrating
AM: I've got a cup game at the valley and it's going to be freezing...and in an empty stadium. Bit of an anti climax
Messi: (looks at him up and down and pauses)
Oh yeh the valley, I remember curbs tried to sign me when I was 13 but saw me train and decided to not go ahead with it
AM: Who's curbs? What are you talking about?

When England finally win the World cup again, the pensioner Jude Bellingham will line up with his Zimmer frame alongside Captain Tesla Beckham, great-grandson of David.0 -

One of the dream finals, and not just because I backed both of them pre the first match. (Only a fiver ☹️)The_Organiser said:As a final it doesn’t get much worse really, does it. Can’t they both lose 😩And it turned out to be probably the best final of all time, featuring two of the best players ever to play the game. And unlike ‘most people here’ (really?) I love France, and have only heard good things about Argentinians and Argentina, from people who have been.5 -
blackpool72 said:The worst possible final for me.
Detest them both in equal measure.

I'd love to see penalties and some of the worst culprits break and miss under pressure.I'd rather France than Argentina, though I'd have preferred neither of them!DamoNorthStand said:
I think Argies v The Germans would pip it and that’s about it!The_Organiser said:As a final it doesn’t get much worse really, does it. Can’t they both lose 😩
I’m clearly outnumbered here. 😂Major said:Agree with the Organiser. No way could I support either team.

He deserved it. Mbappe didn't, if that what people think.hoof_it_up_to_benty said:Worth giving Messi MOTM to wind up certain folk...1 -
I've not seen a better World Cup final.cafctom said:I wanted Argentina to win (for Messi alone)
However, had France won that shootout - would have still come away with the biggest smile on my face having watched what will be remembered as possibly the greatest World Cup game ever.
If you’re a neutral whinging about anything having watched that entertainment, then I feel sorry for you. Because it doesn’t get better than that.5 -
Amazing. Must have been some party last night!RodneyCharltonTrotta said:1 -
"Amazing scenes in the capital of the country that has won the world cup"
In other news, bears...
Assuming that wearing some kind of national garb of the hosts is going to become de rigueur for the winning captain going forward, can we expect the skipper to be sporting a sombrero, lumberjack shirt and an assult rilfe as he lifts the trophy in 2026?

As @redlanered reminded me, he might be able to stand up to Mbappe & co but Martinez had no answer to the mighty Simon Church. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EMKklKm6LZ00

He didn’t stand up that bloody well to Mbappe, scored past him four times!AddicksAddict said:As @redlanered reminded me, he might be able to stand up to Mbappe & co but Martinez had no answer to the mighty Simon Church. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EMKklKm6LZ01 -

I wanted Argentina to win, can’t have the French winning two in a row, although it looked like they would for a while.
I did think Argentina might shade it on pens as the French had substituted a few of their experienced players.0 -
Watching it back again that save from Martinez in the 123rd minute was incredible. Pretty much the entire French bench were up and ready to run onto the pitch.4
-
I was in our front room with family watching that but as I was only 8-9 months old I can't really say I watched it, 74 was my first World Cup.bobmunro said:HastingsRed said:

Probably said above, but only Charlton and Sunderland fans will claim to have witnessed a more dramatic game2

I wasn't paying close attention to the game but i thought all 3 penalties shouldn't have been given. Also it seemed that VAR were told not to get involved as it was the final, i'm guessing to attract people who are not that into football.0
