So we want to keep our transfer targets quiet, but have told our local journo to leak a bid for a forward and plug some season ticket sales!?

Not exactly leaked by the local journo if the news of a bid broke at the Cheltenham end. The SLP article even cites the Glos Live journo as well.
Methven specialises in leaks and media links. Crikes it is not the most complicated method.
Christ the "every news is leaked by Methven and only Methven" line has seeped on to this thread.

Did no one learn from the "Dubai is peddling Methven's angel" lesson?

i'd rather us being linked with top league 1 players compared to last year's signing league two dross tbh

If the price is right, I’d sell Leaburn and get him loaned back for a year. If he continues to improve at his current rate, we’d be selling him next year in any case, IMO. The cash could transform the team. Plus we might have sell on fees from any Joe Gomez sale .. if Liverpool are selling, of course.

Heard we are in for Sess on a permanent deal.. Trying hard for Hector, but he has some bigger deals on the table, yet to be seen if we will match that or if he will move on.

We are looking to sign around 6 senior players, from Championship or Top League 1 players with 2 or 3 for the future type of signings.

Looking to move Chuks on, but this might be hard without paying the contract up! Kirk is likely to be sold or loaned out, along with Lavelle.

If that comes off, will be a very successful summer, but let's see how it plans out, can have targets and plans, but doesn't always come off!
Why Sess? He’s not great and often injured.

Think you’ve answered your own question there with Charlton’s exact recent transfer policy.

While undoubtedly talented, there was times during the season where he just didn’t look that committed and for the wingback role that’s surely a must.

I thought he showed enough when he played to justify us signing him if we feel we can keep on top of his fitness issues.

Would be happy with Sess.  Rather him than Kane.

Would be happy if we signed Sess and disappointed if we can't bag Hector. If Sess does sign I would see him as a right back. I would like two left footed defenders signed rather than Kane.

Whether we sign Hector or not will be telling, if he chooses a championship club it’s completely understandable, if he ends up at a league one rival eyebrows will be raised.

We should sign that midfielder from Peterborough who was tearing the league up a few years back. Marcus Maddison - not sure what happened to him after he left Peterborough, I have a suspicious mental block on that time period and his name. Can't think why
He gave up football after leaving Bolton then ended up at Spalding … then joined Darlington but was released .

Sess one for the longer term though, and he’s of an age where he should be performing as one of the leagues better full backs next season.  Wouldn’t be disappointed with Kane.

One of the attractions of Sess is that he can play both left back and right back. Yes he may be a better right back but as long as he is fit, this gives you an opportunity to cover injuries etc... more effectively.

Sess is a realistic target, as he didn't stand out as being way above L1 level, even if you ignore his knee issue.

Both Sess and Egbo are good right backs.

Sess is also more than adequate left back. We need to try to keep them both. I'd bring in Kane too.

I thought he looked top end league one with championship potential. Exactly the sort of signing we should be looking to grow with the club. Similar to Powell year with players Like Hamer, Wiggins, Morro and Stephens.

Obviously one issue is injuries and if that’s a long term need to be managed.

We need a squad not just a starting 11. Sess is exactly the type of player we should be trying to get

Personally I thought he looked decent, but not outstanding. Not at the same level of Maatsen or Dasilva if we're comparing recent loan left backs

Let’s try to remember he is predominantly a right back though
  • Not a high standard tbf but thought when he played Sessegnon was consistently one of our best players, especially given he was mostly playing on a side he's less comfortable with. He clearly has natural talent, and he's only 23 so plenty of development in him. Fitness is an issue obviously (it's us after all), but avoiding serious injuries would have thought he'll be a Championship player in a couple of years either way.

He was better than Maatsen, who only really looked good when we started playing him as an impromptu right winger, a move that came about because he was so poor in defence at times.

Would be happy with Sess, im sure I heard he was having an op this summer, so hopefully that goes well then he can play more consistently. Defo the type of player we should be bringing in.

Better defensively, but far less effective going forward, which is a major part of a full back's role these days. Hence Chelsea allegedly want £20m for Maatsen

Don’t think anyone is saying Sessegnon is better than Maatsen now. Maatsen has come on loads in the last couple of years. But based purely on their league 1 seasons with us I don’t think there is much between them. Sessegnon would be a brilliant permanent signing

Sessegnon might also be better going forward if he actually played on the right, we only saw this once when he came on for Clare early and we won the game 6-0

A fit Sess, yes. No good having a squad made up of people who are out for 2-3 months a season.
