Its clear the board are not going to sack MA yet, In my opinion he has the next 3 games to get a win, if he has not got a win in the next three games then the board do not have a choice but to sack him surely.
First half was completely unacceptable, how can he keep getting it so wrong.
Second half performance was too late.
We cant keep turning up for 20/30 mins a game and expect to get any kind of result.
Dislike his attitude, Charlton is to big for him. Give the job to someone who sees Charlton as the club it can become again, someone hungry (and not JJ or Bowyer)
Someone fresh, someone who deserves the chance to take this club forward through the success and recognition they have also built.

Abysmal in the first half. God knows what Appleton was thinking when he decided on that formation. Totally outplayed and not even remotely able to compete physically.
The changes made at half time were sorely needed and also effective. We competed and pressed far more effectively and used a more direct style to turn their defenders, getting behind their back line and causing them problems. Daniel Kanu made a strong impact with his pace and physical presence. Alfie May finally had some support and he blossomed, netting a well deserved goal.
The newbies had a mixed day. Coventry was the stand out performer, looking like Dobbo on steroids and making a tremendous impact. Bakinson can hold his head up high too, but Fiorini looked what he is, rusty as hell.
Their winning goal owed a lot to good fortune but it’s hard to argue that Posh didn’t deserve their win. They were the better side overall, although our changed style gave us at least equal status in the second half.
So yet another home defeat but, unlike the previous 1-2 reverse against Oxford, I left the ground feeling a bit more optimistic. The change of the style, the impact of the new guys and the promise of more, better quality reinforcements gives me just a glimmer of hope that the second half of the season will be better than the first. Mid-table anonymity at best this season but perhaps we can look forward to an upward trajectory going into next season.

First half was appalling and I couldn’t argue with the team being booed off. Tyreece was dreadful and should have been hooked after 15 minutes. Ness wasn’t much better. We were so lucky to be only 1 down at half time.2nd half was a revelation. Who’d a thought 2 up front would suit Alfie and give him space to work his magic 🤷🏻♂️ Daniel did really well, but we do need an experienced, big and mobile striker to make this work.I was impressed with Bakinson and Coventry looked very assured for a youngster. You could see him urging players forward, Thomas for example, when he was looking to pass forward and get us going up the pitch. We haven’t seen that in any other player so far this season. Not so impressed with Fiorini, but I appreciate he’s the one who is supposedly not fully fit. Also a word of praise for Terrell. Not his biggest fan, but I thought he actually played well today.
Reasons to be hopeful. Even if it may only be for next season…6 -
Good showing from the new players and they will make a big difference.
But I have little faith in this manager.3 -
It’s always very easy to be wise after the event, but anyone who has seen us over the last two months and knows the most minuscule about football would know starting Alfie May up front alone, with floaty Campbells nowhere near him would be an absolute disaster. We’ve seen it just doesn’t work in multiple games. We have a poor defence that ships goals every game. With no outlet ball available to a physical presence they never get the ball up the pitch long enough to regroup and reshape. With no physical presence, nothing ever falls in the pocket for Alfie May to engage with. With no outlet we then have to persist with this stupid approach of playing to feet from AMB to defenders, which allow the opposition to push men on and press high. We then have defenders uncomfortable with the ball at feet being pressed. This creates mistakes, this stops the ball getting out the final third, this creates tension, this gives the opposition confidence, the ability to smother us and allows their defence a break. It’s so bleeding obvious. How can a so called manager not see that? Kanu is by no means fully ready for L1 but we saw within 30 seconds what difference it makes to THE OPPOSITION having two strikers pressing them into being loose, making mistakes, shifting the momentum play further up the pitch.I’m sure he’ll be around for a while and I’ve no doubt it will improve, but Appleton is by far the worst manager so far I can remember us having for a long time.50

Yes, he had a bad game and was dominated by his markers. But I noticed, towards the end of the first half, the camera stayed on him for a bit and the way he was walking around reminded me of the teenagers I teach when they’re pissed off that they haven’t got their way. Huffing and puffing and stomping around pouting and sulking. He was frustrated, but he had no solution.
I think there’s potentially a very good player in there, but he needs help with his mentality. He needs time to mature, but I reckon he could use some help in a sports psychology sense. Learning how to cope with difficult games is essential and he needs to build resilience in this department.Despite being apparently “useless”, at least according to some, in all competitions this year TC has 4 goals and 6 assists from 29 appearances. Compared to 2 goals and 2 assists in the same number of matches last season. So even if he looks like he’s stagnating or going backwards, his end product has improved. Worth remembering as well that this is still his first full senior season really, so those numbers are actually pretty good.We certainly shouldn’t write him off yet.26 -

Exiled, there’s no dig intended in any way with this, and I know you are trying to be balanced and sensible. And you’re probably right. But (just my view) there are some things that carry differently being in the stadium than via a stream, particularly a players body language, movement and reaction to phase changes. The last couple of months Tyreece’s body language has been absolutely awful. That’s really frustrating sitting there as a fan, particularly when things are going so badly. And though I’m not one to ever boo individual players, I can see fully why people react. He’s also been slow to react to possession changes and his reactions to his own mistakes just hasn’t been good enough. He had a fantastic cameo 2nd half v Reading but bar thst he looks a mile away from the promise he showed last year imo.10 -

Kanu is drawing praise today but a couple of matches ago he was being deemed “not up to it” so it can turn around quickly. Hopefully Tyreece finds a spark somewhere.7 -

The stark reality of our winless run is 5 points from a possible 33! Last week I said I was mildly confident with reinforcements and players returning from injury we’d avoid a scrap at the bottom. If this run continues and we get dragged in amongst it Apple’s got to go and a Warnock type brought in to save our L1 status.6

I'm getting heartily sick of having to watch the away fans celebrate every game.
In the first half they were singing This is a Library we were so quiet, shocked even by the awfulness on show.1 -

Campbell isnt up to it and doesn't try. Needs a loan to Nat League where he can either gain some confidence or have his attitude checked.

Shocking first half down to the idiot in charge
Much better with Kanu second half but a mixture of poor finishing and bad defending cost us once again1 -
Blucher said:
An abysmal first half in which we stood off Peterborough and admired - from a very respectful distance - their handiwork and passing game. Chen and Tyreece Campbell were particularly ineffective but the whole team was flat and passive, leaving Alfie May totally isolated up front. Not once did Edun or Campbell get to the byline.
We were much better in the second half with Kanu up top and, buoyed by Alfie’s goal, gave it a real go. In the final analysis, Peterborough’s superior quality was always likely to tell and so it came to pass, with their guy running through the practically vacant right side of our defence to slot home.
There were some pluses, including a better and spirited second half, a good debut from Bakinson (who seems to be a much-needed talker, as well as a physical presence), an impressive cameo from Coventry and decent turns from Ness and Kanu.
In the final analysis, though, Peterborough were worthy winners and our lack of penetration down the flanks was a portent of how we’re going to fare if, as appears likely, CBT moves to pastures new this month. This team also remains almost totally incapable of putting together a 90 plus minute performance.
Given that we’re only 2 points above next week’s opponents, Burton - who sit in 19th position - we should not delude ourselves into thinking that we’re not capable of being drawn into a relegation battle. I think we’ll ultimately be ok but our direction of travel is hardly encouraging and we have some very tough fixtures coming up (although every game is tough at the moment). It is very depressing to be even looking over our shoulder towards the bottom of the table but that’s where we are at present.
I hope I’m wrong, but I do wonder if a continued run of poor results will see Appleton out of a job by the beginning of March. The question for the owners, regardless of where we end up this season is pretty simple: is this the man to take us back to the Championship ?

Silk purses and sows ears ...With better players now available to him, Appleton will need two wins or five points by the end of the month to have any chance of changing the narrative.13 -
I know doom and gloom is the thing here these days, but I'm not sure how you come away from that game downbeat. I didn't understand the boos either.
First half was bad attacking-wise, but we gave them very little and they took their goal excellently. Appleton right to roll the dice and half time and it nearly paid off.
The midfield has got a big upgrade and it'll be interesting to see where we go from here. Bakinson and Coventry look the business. Too early to judge Fiorini, but I'm optimistic that we will see some better football until the end of the season. Playoffs a very long shot, but relegation won't be a factor. Half a season to get these new guys in, plus some new additions in the summer and who knows.
I think for the first time in a while recruitment is heading in the right direction. Younger guys, with decent upside/resale value.13 -
You know what, if I was MA, based on what sounds to be a decent 2nd half performance I'd put out my best 11 next match and give the youngsters a rest, except for Kanu, unless someone comes in quick who can the target man thing better. Put out my best 11 and set the expectation for total commitment to the cause. there's nothing else he can do.0

We’d likely need 45 points from 20 games to make the play-offs, so 15 wins or 13 wins and six draws, having just won one on 11. So we won’t be making the play-offs.
I agree that Coventry and Bakinson look good, and that next season should be the focus. But first let’s beat Burton and Northampton?

Appleton started the wrong 11 - as usual
We got beat - as usual. He will probably go in Feb, after we’ve played Bolton, Pompey, Derby and find ourselves in a relegation scrap.2 -

I reckon he's got two games. He'll be gone by Feb. Not a lot out there, so Pearce will come in until the end of the season and the work will begin to bring in a high quality league one appointment towards the end of the season1
