For those that are unaware that there is a match going on tonight - Kent won the toss and asked Sussex to bat. Sussex made 203-4 (2 wickets to Jas and one each to Rogers and Gilchrist). Kent are 43-2 off 5 in reply.1

Kent are going through what Sussex have suffered the last five years. It’s tough for us non-Test/Hundred counties. It’s no coincidence that the spellchecker on my phone wants to change Hundred to Hindered.

Sadly so predictable tonight.
A couple of early Sussex wickets ( great stuff, Jas !) gave us a glimmer of hope...but soon that infant flame was doused by 2 immense innings against our under par bowlers.
And then the beginning of the inevitable end when Tawanda's wicket fell. Only 3 of our batters reaching double figures says it all.....
Heads are down seemingly earlier as each match progresses & confidence on the whole is rock bottom.
An almost silent Spitfire Ground tonight said it all.
We'll drag ourselves to the final 2 matches in Canterbury next week to witness the death throes of our T20 campaign...it's what we do.
But it is hearbreaking to witness the current malaise with seemingly no solution in sight.
Any positive or heartening comments would be more than welcome....

My old man and Grandad would both be turning in their graves at this latest Kent incarnation. There seems no fight, no togetherness and frankly no 'chuffing' clue. Only management can be blamed for this sorry state of affairs, and obviously the coaches. The whole club seems in free fall, and has been for a few years.
Perhaps it's time for a radical overhaul of the club and playing Div 2 cricket next season, which is almost nailed on, is the time to begin.

I think the winning of the 50 overs and 20 20 competitions in the last 3/4 years has masked the underlying downward trend of our performances.
I remember years ago Surrey members rounding on Alex Stewart and others at an AGM after a really poor season. We need to do this and demand a root and branch review of the running of the club.
First thing to discuss is moving away from Canterbury to a venue more accessible to the majority of its supporters. It won't happen but it needs serious discussion.

It's not close to the main population areas of Kent.
Commercially it makes far less money that the modern grounds, with their hotels and corporate income
It's got poor spectator facilities
But it's also not especially picturesque either.
A new ground could only happen though with a rich benefactor.4 -

You'd be given such a fantastic welcome & treated like a king by the faithful supporters who are, like their team, going through a very concerning period.

For those that can bear the thought, our game against Glamorgan on Tuesday is live on Sky which is ironic given we can't qualify and Glamorgan have minimal chance of doing so too.2

Kent Women's One-Day U18 side has reached the Final of the National One-Day Cup. Well done girls - now go and win it!
Rather embarrassing for the ECB given their recent decision not to award Kent Tier 1 accreditation. Girls cricket in Kent is thriving with more and more taking up the game. Shame that hasn't been recognised but then we know what the ECB's agenda is.
Below is the Kent Adult Women's squad as it was at the beginning of the season. At least 15 of those are internationals or playing in the ECB's flagship competition and virtually all of them are homegrown

Watched some the Stars' game at Beckenham yesterday. Very small attendance and the lack of facilities for supporters has to be one of the reasons Tier 1 was not offered.1 -

There aren't any that are jumping off the page. Jaydn is with England U19s and will get his chances in the 50 over comp. As might Ekansh. But none are consistently scoring runs/taking wickets at club level. Jaydn was given that opportunity without doing so (averaged 8.45 in the Kent League second tier) and Ekansh is having a similar season this year (averages 13.50 in the same division). Both are talented but have to be allowed to develop their game before stepping up albeit that the 50 over comp is a reasonable place to do so given it is very much a second rate competition.Todds_right_hook said:why not blood a few youngsters. I dare say that there is another reason for playing contracted players and try those that haven't had many opportunities and that is because some will be coming to the end of their contracts and a decision has to be made as to whether to offer them a new one or not. And let's not forget that we are now in the realms of offering contracts that will be playing in Div 2 nest season so the bar will be lower.1
