Be interesting to see what our papers lead with tomorrow. All of them today are about the football.
The football trumps an assassination attempt.

Shocking news and there's definitely the potential now for some awful violence. Trump's words will now be key to this either happening or not.

This is the America that Trump himself has created.
Yeah it's definitely never happened before.

Is that Trump photo for real? It just looks too good to be true. It's got every element that the All American Patriot would want. It's just so reminiscent of Rosenthal's Iwo Jima shot.

It’s his words that have caused the divisions in America. He spends his days stirring up hatred and inciting violence. This shooting is his creation.
  • Whilst I don’t advocate violence, this guy has been a disaster for the country, surely America deserves better leaders than what they’ve got?

Doesn't matter what your politics are anyone wishing him dead should take a good long look at themselves. Fancy swapping places next time some nut comes along.
Interesting to see what the gun lobby propose after this?
I'm gonna take a guess at "More guns".

    That's the election sorted.

If only there were more guns this would never have happened  :D

Whoever took that photo is going to be insanely rich.
Depends if he was freelance. He was probably part of the accredited press pack, and working for a newspaper of agency.

Massive news story. Will be front page of course unless they had already gone to press.
Can’t see Trump losing the election now. He would probably have heard the security services guys saying ‘shooter down’, so did the fist pumping, knowing it’s a ‘defining image’. Smart.

Wouldn’t surprise me if the shooter was a Trump supporter.
Not sure about Trump supporter but appears that the shooter was a registered republican, and he was wearing merch from a popular conservative leaning firearms YouTube channel.
    Where did you read/hear that?

Edit: have seen it’s everywhere now.

Seriously doubt your speculative theory about the fist pumping. Rush of adrenaline more likely imo. This is real world stuff playing out, not a calculated response for political gain, even if that's a consequence  He'd just been shot at!!!!!

Yes because there has never been an assassination attempt on a president before.
Plus there have never been shootings in America before.
Trump is to blame for everything.

40,000 people in America per year are killed by guns, that includes 20,000 a year that are murders. That is around 55 people per day  murdered by guns. That does not include the non gun murders.
In the last statistics there were 590 murders in a year in the UK from all methods.
So in eleven days in America there are more murders just by gun than all murders in a year in the UK.
The assassination attempt on Trump, with the one poor person killed and others injured is totally wrong and totally appalling.
The level of conspiracy fall out from this event will go on for many years, including notions that it was Joe Biden in disguise who fired the gun!
I can’t stand Donald Trump, but I am glad he survived. This event probably cements in his election victory this year.

First off, political violence of any kind should be condemned without hesitation!! However we now sadly live in times where 'radicals' on both sides of the political divide are getting louder and stronger.
What I find ironic about this shooting is seeing  some Trump supporters blaming 'unlicensed gun ownership' some even saying guns should be banned, yet Trump supports full gun ownership!
A now Farage, is appearing on Kussenberg this morning at 9 am, to talk about his friend Trump, having said in the week, he is boycotting going on any BBC programme!! Unbelievable!

It’s almost as if Farage is using this outrage as an opportunity.

The US is going to be an epitome of instability over the next 12 months whatever happens.

On one side you have the most divisive mainstream politician of my lifetime and on the other side a guy who doesn’t know what day of the week it is, and probably thinks he is in the mid 80s and Ronald Reagan has just been fired at

How do nutters get hold of weapons like that in America?  It isn't just guns, it is the type of guns!

Supermarkets/Petrol Stations or they borrow them off the kids coming out of nurseries….
  • The ‘shooter’ was 20 years old, how does your mind become so twisted at 20 to do something like this?

I just don’t see that. Certainly Trump’s language is regularly outrageous, but political violence has been part of America’s story from early on (arguably it was born through political violence - throwing tea into Boston harbour was an unimaginable outrage!).

This shooting is America’s creation, I just hope this doesn’t descend into tit for tat violence, lots of heavily armed people with short tempers in that nation.

The shooting is a sympton of there being crazy people. It can't be rationalised. We have seen in the news here what a crazy person did to two young girls and their mother.

At St Luke’s Church in Charlton Village lies the remains of British Prime Minister Spencer Perceval shot and killed in the House of Parliament on the 11th May 1812.
