We finish last, and a fault for the German gives us a bronze, but we messed up because we tried too hard to barge the Aussie out of the way to claim gold

I think 4.55 was 100% the correct height for Molly, it's probably where she starts in training and she makes that 99 times out of 100. on any other day she turns up, has 1 attempt packs up and is back to the village

as it happens something was very wrong today and the height was probably pretty irrelevant; that 3rd attempt was the worst I've ever seen from her, it was the timing that was off, not the height. sometimes in sport shit just happens and this was one of those times
It clearly wasn't the correct height for her, as if it had been, she'd be looking forward to the Olympic final instead of her journey home.
What she does in training is irrelevant. Her only job this morning was to qualify.
The only thing wrong with her 3rd attempt was the execution. She was so desperate to clear the bar that she went far too high and had no forward momentum. All because she put herself under too much unnecessary pressure.
She'll never make the same mistake again, that's for sure.

Silver in the Men's as the Kiwi managed to get out ahead and take an unassailable lead

The kayak cross is absolutely mental isn't it?

Makes me think that they should introduce an obstacle race into the Olympics
Not actually sure how it's even a sport, it's like watching a gameshow.
I said to the blokes in the office that it was like watching a re-run of takeshi's castle

Only matters if you count Gold as the only thing that matters. We still got 2 medals and are 4th in (my & US's) table.

Korea are above us in the "official" table but we've won 14 more medals than they have.

Just watching the cycling and got confused.

Start of the team pursuit and only one team on the track!!!! Who are they pursuing then I thought.

Was then explained that they're riding for a time to sort out the teams.

No it Doesnt. He said ‘favourites’, which considering we’ve had a few that have underperformed now, it’s frustrating.

We can still celebrate good performances from those athletes that have performed very well and won silvers/bronzes.

this will be the first olympics since 2000 where all 3 medallists in the women's PV haven't passed on at least the first 2 heights in qualifying, on a number of occasions they have passed on more than that. quite simply it is standard practice for those at the top of the sport

it wasn't the wrong thing for them to do then and it wasn't the wrong thing for Molly today. it's most unfortunate that she had the worst day she's had in years but just because something doesn't work once does not make it the wrong thing to have done

If there's a ready steady go element and it's a race with a start and finish line and a bit of physical effort involved, I'm thinking it qualifies as sport. Fishing is defined as sport isn't it. That and horse dancing I have more of a problem justifying.

And women's PV has changed massively in those years. Maybe things are a fair bit closer now and nothing can be taken for granted.

New Olympic record from the Dutch. 0.5 clear of GB.

  • I think the way they work out the leaderboard should be points based, e.g gold is 3 points silver 2 and bronze 1

Agreed. As has been mentioned several times on here and probably every other Olympics since records began. It isn't going to change though. We have to work than one out for ourselves, but it'll never be the official way as it isn't a medals table

Not sure "official" needed the inverted commas.
  • World record. Gold medal. No problem. Really amazing what our track cycling team has achieved in the last couple of decades.

They need to get a more economical printer
