Mark Goldbridge working with the club?

Supetb!
A resounding rendition of the old favorite "Who the fucking Hell are you" should be taken out of mothballs for that non-entity...6 -

Looks like a good idea to me ... what's the harm in trying something new?19

Seems a pretty sensible bit of marketing13

Along with the popularity of Wrexham these days, I'm sure the audience for this show will be an impressive figure.5

I'm only 33 and yet I am already clearly so far from the target demographic for half the stuff the club does these days. This seems a good bit of marketing, it's just bizarre the way the game has gone in recent years.
Same with the youtube matches. I can't my head around who would ever pay to watch that, but the ticket sales speak for themselves.11 -
Too many old sods on here, including me who have to ask who he is. Lol4

I’ve seen clips of him and he’s funny in a real life Brent way.
It ain’t for us oldies, so no point whinging about it. If it gets youngsters interested in the club, then so be it.8 -
Are we expecting people to attend after watching Mark Goldbridge say he likes Charlton? Feels a little like his first game attending being Wrexham plays slightly more into their favour than ours, like we're making a big deal of it0

I dread to think how much money we're throwing his way for this. I can be filmed being unfunny whilst watching Charlton for 2 hours, at least I'm actually a fan of us, instead of some no-mark from Nottingham with a fake name being a plastic rent-a-fan for ManUre6
-
Never heard of him, but then I'm way out of his demographic range.
If the club thinks it'll bring in fans from his 1.25 million followers, I suppose it can't be a bad thing.
Time will tell I guess!0 -
As a marketing activation, this is head and shoulders ahead of anything we had during the 'sofa by the side of the pitch' years.
And read Charlies note on the website. Im sure some people will find something to moan about, but it's an indication as to the progress being made commercially at the club. Not every bit of marketing is designed to engage every single member of the fanbase. This will be a great way of growing the digital footprint of the club, attracting the social generation and getting us spoken about.
They also have a sponsorship from Meantime Brewing which would have made us money as well on the stream.
Well done all.

Why are some people so upset about this?
If you don't like it, ignore it! It's doing no harm.
If it shows an online audience that watching football outside of the premier league (and in person) is enjoyable, then it can only be a good thing for football in general17 -

I'm sure the club would be bringing them in to this instead of Goldbridge if the numbers were available.6

Tell you what though, that’s guaranteed at least a last minute Wrexham equaliser or worse, a 3-0 defeat!0

Marketing is about trying different things across different channels and measuring what works. No harm in trying this.3

So for us oldies, what exactly is a "Watchalong"?
Does he have the match livestream showing on his YouTube channel (That's Football?) with his and fans reactions added in some way. Or is it something different.?0 -
YouTubers can sell out The Valley and Charlton can't half fill it.
Seems like a sensible idea to try to bring in some younger support, especially when the majority on CL recognise that Charlton's support is/can appear to be on the older side.11 - Sponsored links:

You can't see the match... You just watch them watching it.
I'm not sure how many people watch it live but I know the clips do well.0 -

It’s basically a live gogglebox to a football match3
-
Maybe the next online trend the club could try is a mukbang.
Live stream of Nathan Jones eating six plates of Toby Carvery.12 -
He’s basically only well known for being massively negative when talking about Man U which I’m assuming won’t fly if he wants to be negative about us0
-
The two tweets announcing this have combined for 150,000 views already in less than two hours.
The prior tweet encouraging fans to “join us in SE7” next weekend for Stockport has been up an hour longer with 7,500 views.
Will 150,000+ views convert to bums on seats? Probably not as many as you’d think initially but I could see it bringing in a new generation of fans over time if repeated a few times a season.10 -
fair play to the club - had no idea who he was, but this sort of thing clearly has a massive following (I suspect my kids will know who he is)
doesn't offend/effect me in any way and if it generates interest then what's not to like.
Interesting that the crowd for the day is expected to top 20k4 -
Someone like Goldbridge can "advertise" Charlton to a far larger and more diverse audience than anything the club could do on its own.
Good idea in my opinion even if I do find him fairly annoying.9 -
Not going to make any difference to me personally but ultimately its a question of trying to get more attention and views and hopefully turn that into revenue down the line.
Charlton are just one league one club in the London area when there's a whole bunch of others and many more successful ones. If something like this turns out to be what works, so be it.3
