Strong former colonial links, but still a pretty random "big name" appointment, I imagine Kluivert knows nothing about Indonesian football. It would be like appointing Nicky Butt or Tony Adams manager of Malaysia.Lincsaddick said:

Sometimes I wonder... if Alan Curbishley's period at the club were happening today, with how much football has changed and all the money in the Premier League, would he have survived the sack when we were relegated in our first top-flight season?0

The season they came up they were wholly reliant on Morris (20) for their goals with Adebayo (7) next and no one else getting more than 3 goals - the irony being that three of the four players that did that have Charlton associations in being Campbell, Berry and Lockyer.killerandflash said:

The latter named Lockyer is, perhaps, the one player they've missed the most. He started 39 Championship matches in 2022-23 of which 18 finishing with Luton having clean sheets and another 13 when they conceded a single goal. In total, Luton conceded 42 goals in their 49 matches but have already let in 44 in 27 this season.0 -

West Ham United can confirm that Head Coach Julen Lopetegui has today left the Club.
The first half of the 2024/25 season has not aligned with the Club’s ambitions and the Club has therefore taken action in line with its objectives.
The Club can confirm that Assistant Head Coach Pablo Sanz, Head of Performance Oscar Caro, Head Analyst Juan Vicente Peinado, Fitness Coach Borja De Alba and Technical Coach Edu Rubio have also left with immediate effect.

Although you often hear rumours about managerial sackings before they happen, I have never seen a club where that happens so frequently as at West Ham. Probably says a lot about the character of the senior people running the club that we always get a steady drip of rumours that undermine the manager before he is finally sacked. The fans moan about a stadium that we pay for (we want Upton Park 😪), they moan about the only manager who has won them anything in decades (yes, but the football was boring 😡). A classless club6

Potter deal agreed
West Ham United have agreed a deal to appoint Graham Potter as their new head coach on a two-and-a-half-year contract.
The Athletic reported on Wednesday that West Ham were progressing in their talks with Potter, with the club later confirming the departure of Julen Lopetegui after six months in charge.
Potter is set to take charge of West Ham for the first time on Friday as his side travel to Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round.

We even saw it this season how quickly fans jumped on the sack the manager bandwagon. I've said it before on this thread but teams rarely seem to sack managers before tough games. It wouldn't make a lot of sense to bring a new manager in knowing they had those 2 games (and 2 likely defeats) next. Now Potter comes in and after the cup this weekend his first 2 league game are Fulham and Palace both at home, so they're much more likely to get a new manager bounce.golfaddick said:A bit harsh sacking him after they had lost to Liverpool & Man City ! I wonder how long Sullivan will keep control at West Ham before selling the whole club to Daniel Kretinsky. Feels like an incredibly disjointedly run club , not even as if they bring through as many academy prospects as they used to. Tough job for Potter1
