POST-MATCH THREAD: Peterborough Utd v Charlton Athletic: Saturday 22nd March 2025: KO 15:00

Charlton dominated the opening period. The press was impeccable at times and, with Peterborough looking to play out from the back, successful in keeping the pressure on. But the partnership of Luke Berry and Matty Godden couldn’t find a breakthrough. Tyreece Campbell on one side and Thierry Small on the other had the beating of their Peterborough counterparts but again the final piece of the puzzle proved elusive. Conversely, Peterborough looked good on the counter.
Charlton were uncharacteristically carved open a few times on the break and then a mix up at the back led to a back pass from Ramsay that Mannion fell on, resulting in an indirect kick in the box. The immediate danger was cleared but only to the edge of the box. The ball was popped back in and Peterborough Captain Sam Hughes nodded it in at the back post for the opener. We made multiple personnel changes, changes in shape as well, but it wasn’t enough. Peterborough scored again on the counter and had a few more chances they should have done better with.
Their third came in the second half to kill the game off and dump the Addicks back down to reality.
There were shades of Rotherham at home, so let’s hope we now regroup and go on a similar run to end the season as high in the table as possible. Huddersfield Town up next.
Peterborough 3 Charlton 0
Over to you.

After a lively start, a very disappointing result including some iffy individual performances.
We need Small on the right wing for his instinctive play, even if it’s wasteful at times. It makes us less predictable and has won us some vital points. I seem in the minority that would have replaced Edwards with McIntyre. The latter looks keen, fit and alert in his appearances. Handy having 3 left footers in the team too.
Our attempts at goal were either powderpuff or belonged to the oval ball sport. Sadly, I asked myself today why Chuks is always on the floor after any involvement in play. The answer is fairly obvious.
There’s been a lot of talk about us reaching 2nd. From the fans and also the media of late. All of a sudden, the games against Huddersfield, Wrexham and Wycombe look very different than they did at midday today! Keep pushing lads.

Wait... those arent guns firing on the outskirts of Peterborough
It sounds like the faint cries of "Posh DEAD AHEAD" - Well they certainly were in front of us today...
ABANDON SHIP!! (Until next week)

In light of recent form I don't think it's worth throwing our toys out the pram, but, losing 3 nil to a bottom half side is a pathetic result.4

This simply has to be a 1 off. Next Saturday is such a big game for us now.10

Weird game.Hopefully no over-reaction to that.
We’re still in an incredible position considering the state of us around November time.
A mad 5 minutes at the end of the first half left us having to chase it and therefore looking exposed at the back.
No harm done really. Just be laser focused for next Saturday.
If we do go up, one of Poku, Mothersill, Odoh, Jones or Hayes wouldn’t be a bad shout. They all look a step up from League One.

Got cocky at the end against Wigan and now this. Hopefully a wake up call that we can’t just coast to the end of the season.6

That was pretty pants. The Mannion error was criminal and totally knocked the stuffing out of him and the defence became shaky. We also had virtually no attacking threat. The performance was just flat all round.2

Absolutely hate P'boro, proper bogey side for us. That game could of gone on for 5 hours and we wouldn't of scored. Dust ourselves down and bounce back against Huddersfield.6
-
Two reasons we lost that. Firstly we didn't take our chances and secondly Mannion should have booted that ball out. Yes we defended the free kick but we were not set and they scored as part of that play. Never mind, we go again.4

Bad day at the office.
Following Rotherham (A) we won 10 of the next 13. Let’s repeat that all the way to Wembley.36 -
So pleased we came over for this one… 🙄 The Peterborough players goading our fans were well out of order, we were not giving them any stick. They really caused the problems in the corner.2

Today is an aberration, next week will be different.
Bring on the Terriers: their unbeaten record versus ours.
Different day, different outcome.
Up The Addicks!

(It'll certainly be different for me: back home instead of Cape Verde, shitter weather than here, very early start, having to stay sober throughout, no rum until I get home c 6pm)1 -

Play like that and we won’t make the playoffs offs .
we dominated the first half hour but didn’t take our chances then we went all Kamakazi at the back . Coventry was our last man several times. Why ?They could have had five or six if their number ten had his shooting boots on in the second half .TC was awful . He had their right back on toast but his final ball or shot was terrible.Thankfully I only have forty minute journey back on the train.8 -

That Odoh can fuck himself. Wouldn't sign the obnoxious twat if we go up.
Wasn't good enough at all. Posh defensively are poor but we didn't do enough to expose it. Need a response like the one after Rotherham so will see what they are made of in the run up!2 -
We’ve won 7 in a row and 9 out of 10 home games since Christmas. Away from home we’ve only won 3, drawing 2 and losing 3.Fully expected us to play much better against Huddersfield next Saturday.5

Complacency and cockiness had started to creep in - especially in the wigan game.
I understand the desire to really go for wins in away games, but we purely didnt try to control the game nor have a gameplan that enabled us to come away with at least a point.
Ramsey has been putting in some poor performances of late, as has small - is that due to a lack of competition due to injuries? Midfield for the last few weeks has also been very poor, other than Coventry. Our issues before xmas were due in part to Doherty and Berry just coasting and not adding much - same again has started - i'd play gilbert over berry, or at least have a look at what options we have to avvoid having such a vast gap centrally.
TC has somewhat reverted back to his very frustrating self, albeit hopefully due to complacency and attitude (which NJ can fix) - that really limited us today, where he was just adamant to only get to the byline or cut in to shoot.
hopefully just a bad day at the office, but second Definity looks out of reach now - Play Offs it is, so we need to give out best go at making it as positive/in our favour as possible, and thatll mean getting the 2nd leg at home!2 -
Will be glad when Aneke is gone and can no longer be selected. Can't Nathan see that he's a spent force?11

Reset and go on another run, that is all we can ask for and they will be up for delivering I am sure. Hope Leaburn and Edwards back next weekend.0

On the way back to the car, caught a few momentsThis was a reflection of our game todayThis was a reflection of Peterborough, and now remember why I stopped coming here1
