Probably going to sound like a broken record but can't see why Ahmed isn't being given a shot in the test team ahead of Dawson. He's young and not the finished article but he would learn so much

Understand your point.
Leicestershire is an even more unfashionable county than Kent having languished at or near the foot of division 2 for many seasons. Ahmed, in my view, could be a victim of that. If (when) Leicestershire get promoted I think he will come into the thinking of the selectors.

Probably because as a leg spinner he hasn't had the control and until such time as he proves that he can hold up an end he won't get that opportunity as the first spinner. Dawson might not have taken wickets (but then no one did ) but the one thing he did do is enable the quicks to have a rest. Bowling as first spinner against India and Australia probably isn't the place to learn especially now that there is a Test Championship.
Now, if we're talking about Ahmed getting into the side as as all rounder then that's a different proposition but we still have to think who we are going to leave out. If Pope is vulnerable then perhaps Ahmed could be the one to bat at 3 but Bethell appears to be the one in waiting for that or the opening berth.
Bizarre dismissal of Green the very next ball - out sweeping a delivery from Parkinson only to be caught at silly point by Dawkins and the bowler has his 5 wicket haul with the chance of more to come. And another hat-trick chance for Parkinson.
Considering Leics were 201-1 we've done very well to have them 295-7 especially in the absence of Stewart. Now need to mop up the tail for less than another 40 or 50.
It's getting away from us. It appears that, in addition to Stewart being off injured, Agar might be struggling too or the light might be the reason we have yet to take the new ball.

Could Bethell bat 3 and provide the off spin. Rehan as the allrounder and leg spin. Lot to askbof Bethell given his inexperience particularly in his bowling. So asking him to provide control with the ball and bat 3 is a big ask. But can see in 3-5 years that being the case.
We're not trying to take a wicket because we don't want to bat tonight. No slips for Agar and he's been told to bowl as wide as possible without it being a wide. The irony is that Parkinson was called earlier for bowling a negative line albeit those were pitching outside leg stump.
Muyeye becomes our eighth bowler of the day. Given that Dawkins and Compton don't bowl he will be the last one to do so. Unless Dawkins replaces Finch with the gloves of course.
