There are too few passengers to justify building a second entrance at Woolwich’s Elizabeth Line station, despite complaints about crowding, Greenwich Council’s planning officers have concluded.

Nothing like a bit of forward planning. Too busy (TfL and the Council) mucking about with our roads, instead of improving the public transport services that might actually help both commuters AND road users. The longer they leave it, and it will be done eventually, the more it is going to cost. Try upping the levy on the builders for starters and start ordering CPOs on land where planning permission has been in place for more than 2 years with no building in progress.clive said:There are too few passengers to justify building a second entrance at Woolwich’s Elizabeth Line station, despite complaints about crowding, Greenwich Council’s planning officers have concluded.

Inevitable overcrowding for Woolwich station on the Liz line, not hard to predict.
But the Greenwich Wire says - "the station is now likely to remain with only one entrance and an emergency exit, which will emerge in Armourer’s Court." note future tense, "will emerge"...
I thought the emergency entrance was already in place at Armourer's court end but cannot verify this until i go and take a look, unless anyone else is able to confirm?
The emergency exit is the obvious location for the new second exit/ entrance.

By the way @Off_it we tried to use your top tip at Farringdon on our way to Wembley the other Sunday and it was closed off. Metal doors shut and a sign saying no entrance to Barbican from here. We went out and walked down the road to the entrance of Barbican tube instead but that looks like a permanent thing.0

The trains were ordered before the Heathrow service was added.2 -

Yep. I should have checked. Stupid to assume that one of the major transport lines in one of the world’s biggest capitals/cities might possibly run at least past 11pm 🤦🏻♂️OhMyGodden said:

Extremely short sighted. Especially considering the new housing that’s being built and planned within 10 mins walk that’ll be a few thousand new homes in woolwich. Not exactly future proofing itself.clive said:There are too few passengers to justify building a second entrance at Woolwich’s Elizabeth Line station, despite complaints about crowding, Greenwich Council’s planning officers have concluded.

Woolwich Elizabeth Line station could still get second entrance, developer insists

Yeah, I had a word with them as I was getting fed up with all the riff raff using it. I've got my own key to the metal door now, so can lend it to trusted persons.Curb_It said:By the way @Off_it we tried to use your top tip at Farringdon on our way to Wembley the other Sunday and it was closed off. (Actually, I think the lift is just busted!)2 -

Wait I seem to have missed the reason they didn’t want to build another entrance is because people crowd from the end where the entrance is… seems to me another entrance on the other side would completely solve this issue!clive said:Woolwich Elizabeth Line station could still get second entrance, developer insists

I think the developers massively underestimated how popular Woolwich Crossrail station would be. They probably assumed it would mainly serve local residents, with only a small number switching over from the DLR or National Rail. In reality, plenty of people are willing to take fairly long bus journeys from surrounding areas just to use the station, and that’s clearly taken everyone by surprise. You only have to see the crowds pouring off buses and heading straight for the station in the mornings, along with the steady stream of people crossing over the main road from the other side of town, to realise how big the demand actually is.

The emergency exit shaft also has extraction fans. No provision for escalator shaft.swords_alive said:Inevitable overcrowding for Woolwich station on the Liz line, not hard to predict.

Don't forget Berkeley Homes built the station box at minimal cost.
They now say they will keep a possible site free away from the shaft.1
