For all the talk about Kelman, he's a Striker who didnt score once, nor have a shot on target

Why is Kaminski immune to any blame... He's a Goalkeeper, its his job to stop the ball from going in the net, and he couldnt do that on one occasion.

I thought in real time he should have done better but I've not seen it again. Like most keepers these days they seem happy to palm it away even if into the danger zone. And he was Mr Flappy a couple of times too. An upgrade on Mannion. Maybe but not massively.
I've watched it again and it comes through a crowd of players, should he have done better ? if we had the benefit of being behind the goal then we perhaps could make a judgement.

    good things -

Bree and Carey, official attendance (although way above actual), result - but most of all for me today I really felt like we’re vaguely proper again today. In L1 you could walk down Floyd road 15 minutes before KO at some matches and wonder if you’d got the wrong day… today I walked around SE4 4 miles from the ground where I live and saw 2 separate CAFC shirts at 10am, and then plenty more knocking about on my travels during the day, bumped into some old mates from school on the train after etc… how it should be, basically

    Negatives -

Millwall result, second half was really poor from a controlling position, our attackers all look completely toothless, atmosphere was a bit stale compared to previous games, and I think most of all despite our great position and very acceptable first 10 results, i can’t help but feel like we are not getting the most out of a number of our players potential ability, we need to work out how to adapt and improve our system, style or whatever it may be to get the better out of some of those who I feel have a lot more to offer if we can find it - primarily all 4 forwards, but also apter, maybe Knibbs - even Coventry (who I love but I think could be even better as a creative force)

When we are much lower than  9th and he has not played every game. It is a team game and he is playing a big part.  Bonne scored more goals than him. Maybe we should get him back
i've heard Charlton Live contributers say "Kelman joined us -he wasn't fit"- but he played the full season for Leyton Orient and had a summer to rest. What hapened?

A win is a win even if it was 50% ugly. 3 more points on the board that's all that matters.

    Why?

We can all take the virtue signalling when we win.

Had we had lost 0-1 you would all agree.

Honestly players can do fuck all for 50 games as long as your face fits or the price tag is big enough it's okay.

Wake the fuck up happy clappers if the midfield and defence hadn't been getting out of the shit Kelman would of slaughtered.
Just stop trying to troll now... You're making yourself look a bit of a tit
    Because we won Kelman.

God knows how many games no goals.

Seriously  has he even had a shot terget si ce early August.

    I'm guessing no.

In my opinion the tits are people who straight up don't understand what a striker is supposed to do.

HAVE SHOTS ON TARGET AND SCORE GIALS.
It would be a tad easier if they had a decent pass to shoot from.

Thought we were going to have another 3-0. .
Kelman is working hard and I can see why NJ selects him.
Leaburn is a work in progress,  An average game made almost unplayable having Stan Laurel officiating

if Mac had got the free kick right I think we would have been a more happy band of brothers .
Poor old Barry Banana was way off the mark.
And while as a person there is little admire, I think should he get his long awaited pay he will be off!!

Quite the opposite. When they are on the pitch we look good because of their constant pressing. When they come off we are forced on to the defensive. Huge problem for NJ to fix.

I think Leaburn just can't really do it, tbh. He's lost his energy. I don't think he should be getting the minutes he is at the moment
The lack of pressing when Kelman and Campbell go off is causing us problems. Can't fault Tanto as he's charging after everything and even busting a gut to get to the halfway line to tackle players when he's on, so that really only leaves Leaburn not doing the job.

Poor 2nd half from us and a pretty good 2nd half performance from them. Difference was, we had Jones and Gillesphey, who were excellent in the air, in the tackle and on the cover. If Jones doesn't move to a "bigger" club or higher level, I'd be surprised.
  • One thought regarding that potential career ending "tackle" by their keeper needs more than just the normal 3 match ban, if you look at the replays the guy lead with his forearm right into Tanto's neck, which could have resulted in catastrophic results, and to think the alleged ref wasn't giving anything at first till his assistant stepped in, which is unbelievable itself, throw the f'in book at the keeper...
Even if the ref wasn't 100% sure of exactly what happened, he should've stopped the game immediately with both player's laying motionless on the ground with possible head injuries.

Well, we certainly made hard work of that. Having been beautifully placed at half-time, we contrived to almost squander a comfortable 2-0 lead. Ultimately, though, it’s another 3 precious points to keep us in the calm waters of mid-table - 15 down, 35 to go.

We were hardly fluent in the first half but created a number of openings against a very shaky Wednesday defence, with Sonny Carey’s desire to shoot on sight and then follow up giving us an early lead. Bree’s excellent free-kick laid on the second for Burke just before half time and we went in feeling uncharacteristically comfortable.

Wednesday continued to look vulnerable throughout the second half but managed to achieve a measure of control in midfield and push us deep. Our ‘press’ seemed to fall apart and Wednesday found a lot of space in midfield to work the ball to within 30 yards of our goal. Very uncharacteristic of a Charlton side under Nathan. Their goal when it came was deserved and no surprise and, duly encouraged, Wednesday pressed forward for an equaliser. They missed one decent opportunity with a header squirting wide, while we broke on them on several occasions but a lack of quality in the final ball let us down.

In the end, we saw the game out reasonably well, while also being treated to Wednesday’s keeper reprising Schumacher’s 1982 assault on Patrick Battiston. To the amazement of everyone in the ground, the ref waved play on until his Lino set him straight. Fortunately, Tanto was unscathed (not a man to bump into) and although Macca was unable to insert the ball into the top corner against the midget in goal, it mattered not.

Not our best performance by any means but Carey was excellent and Jones, Bell, Bree and Leaburn also did very well.

On to Ipswich, where I feel Leaburn and Tanto may start. We looked a little flat in midfield today but Carey is undroppable and Jones understandably trusts the Coventry/Doc combination in the centre that has generally served us so well. Hopefully Anderson will be on the bench if we need to inject a bit of energy and pace.

15 points from 10 games is a fine return - happy days.

Harsh to blame the change of play on the forward subs imo who looked alright when they came on olaofe was pressing and leaburn was winning headers,we had a decent period first ten mins second half of turnovers 10-15 yards from their box which we kept messing up,we got overrun in midfield imo and they was passing it around us we needed legs in there.
Carey tiring is the main reason we are worse after the break, not the striker subs.

At the moment Carey is both our main goal scoring threat AND the best attacking presser, but he can't do this for more than 60 minutes.
I couldn’t disagree more. Carey is outstanding but TC and Kelman are occupying so many players, giving us great control of a game. That’s 3 games now it’s fallen apart once they’ve gone off. Couldn’t we make the change at 70mims at least. I also think Leaburn is just not at it right now. It’s like he’s moving in slow motion trying to hold up the ball and inevitably losing possession. TC and Kelman really stretch the opposing team’s defence giving us more dominance in midfield. I don’t care if TC and Kelman, never score, as they give us control and allow players like Carey and Bree to capitalise.
And here is the issue in a nutshell?
I don't think either will ever be prolific goal scorers but they do create our space and control in other areas of the pitch?
One for NJ to work out.
As others have said we can't keep making the two changes on 60 mins?
Would still like to see Tanto and Kelman once TC tires as he inevitably does in each game......

    FFS. Not you too…🤣
Leaburn won his headers, but his press just isn't what a Jones team needs. It cost us a win against Millwall and it was costing us here
He is 1st in the entire division for possession won in the final 3rd.
  • Hope we get to see tanto or Leaburn start with Kelman soon, Campbell needs a rest

    How does the ref ?
    1. Not send the keeper off straight away? Think it was the Lino that told him.
    2. Gives the free kick on the D and the wall is a yard away from the penalty spot?
It was when he waved on play when you had two players lying on the ground like they'd been flung from a train wreck that got me!

Thought we were distinctly average, even sloppy at times, in the first half, yet still comfortably better than SW and could have been further clear.

This led to a second half where we had no urgency and seemed content to let them have lots of the ball and failed to utilise it when we did regain possession.

Given that their goal was almost inevitable. So happy we held on for the win, but we should have been out of sight long before their goals.

P.s. ref was shocking, continually giving them free kicks for nothing challenges and failing to send their 29 for a kick off the ball (right in front of the equally useless lino), failing to give a penalty for a clear fail on Knibbs (or to book Knibbs for a dive if it wasn't a foul), and even seeming hesitant to send of their keeper for a WWE-esque flying cross body to the head at the end.
  • It definitely isn't going to get better anytime soon for Wednesday.

A centre back off injured today plus their keeper suspended (and he's only playing because the first choice is injured) meaning an 18 year old will be in goal next game.

Midweek they play 2nd placed Middlesbrough. I don't expect the odds will be great, but Middlesbrough have to a safe bet.
  • The failure of the ref to stop the game for the sending off at the end was astonishing. Very poor.

And what's more if he'd started, we'd have been out of sight at H-T as he'd have put away two of those delicious crosses from Bree which went begging. That's not to dig out Kelman, the problem was that Bree faded in the second half (at one point I was asking myself if he wasn't already subbed), and we had surrendered the initiative to Weds before Miles even came on.

When we can criticise Kelman for being a total dud?
When he misses a number of chances.

10 games in & I've yet seen him being given a ball to run onto inside the box. Even Harry Kane would find it hard to score in this team.

Just got home after going to Blackheath after the game. Not a great match but 3 very important points. Had a shit week so was great to get out, have a few beers and win. Also good to catch up with @Curb_It & @Tavern who were sitting behind me .

We was ok 1st half, they came out and gave it a go as we dropped off 2nd. Funny old game to play so well against Leicester and get 0pts, play not so well and get 3, I know what I’ll take. Not going to be precious about playing well and winning at the same time. A win is a win as they say. Really enjoying the season with the different challenges against better teams and we are standing up to it well with room to improve.Onto Ipswich let’s hope we can put them to the sword!! COYR.
  • We won, but probably our worst performance of the season, especially after an average one at Preston, but a win is a win, and pre Jones we would have lost this type of game - only another 34 points and we are safe…….

Has Kelman actually played a full 90 at all yet this season? Feels like he is off at practically the exact same time every match regardless of how he is playing. The other week (I forget which game, before Preston) he seemed to be getting closer and closer to scoring and then he was inexplicably taken off.

A enjoyed that. Showed we can dig in and battle out a win even when not playing well.

The first half was a decent performance, but we weren't at the races in the second. And those pinning things on ours subs must've been asleep for the previous 15 mins - we weren't at it right from the start of the half. And credit Wednesday for that, they looked a different team after the break.

When they scored and then were having wave after wave of attacks we were proper wobbling and it seemed like there would only be one winner. But we dug deep, hung in there, defended well and gradually got a foot back in the game. In the end we saw it out well - a proper team performance. Loved it. Absolutely loved it.
Absolutely, Wednesday were on top for the first 15 minutes of the second half. The subs didn't affect us negatively and eventually I think Leaburn and Tanto were quite effective in general play. Leaburn won some headers and gave their defenders a hard time. Tanto covering a lot of ground hassling then. But again neither were real threat to the Wednesday goal. Similar to Campbell and Kelman who played alright but don't look like scoring.
  • Hope we get to see tanto or Leaburn start with Kelman soon, Campbell needs a rest
You mean the Campbell who had an assist for Carey's goal?
  • Season ticket holder lower west. Seen every home game this season. While I admit Kelman holds the ball up well can't see him scoring before Christmas (hope I'm wrong). Take todays game Doc laid on perfect pass for him to just beat the keeper he misses it! Surely his job is to score goals, people moaning about Leaburn I watched him win every header and display some neat footwork. Only thing I will say is Kelman is better than Adhadme. He needs Leaburn or Olaofe along side him not Tyreece!
  • I very very rarely mention refs since I tried doing it for a 5 a side work game and realised how bad I am... But that bloke today boiled my piss.  He was so bad I have to question his integrity.  That keeper coming at Olaofe was not far as bad as Millwall v Palace last season yet he didn't even see a foul. Utter utter disgrace.

As for us, 3 points, that's ultimately all that matters... But it was more of a slog than it should have been at half time.  Onwards, and hopefully... Upwards!

TC takes up a midfielder and a defender at least most of the time. It's why we can control the midfield when he's on the pitch and no matter what Tanto's skill are he doesnt tie up the midfield in the same way. Which is i think why we are struggling to adapt to the double substrition, the midfield shape needs to change at the same time.
