I'm finished for the year, I played Portmarnock last month to pre-keep my Open rota complete. They reckon they'll get it in 2032.

It most reminds of Carnoustie, a bit prettier and hillier and without the late drama. It's certainly good enough to host. It has extra tricky, fast greens for a links as well.
  • When I was a kid we used to ride our bikes round the edge of a golf course when on holiday.
There was an uphill par 3 where those playing could only see the top of the flag.
Occasionally when a shot went somewhere near the hole, we would run out onto the green and put the ball in the hole, then ride off into the trees and wait for the yells of delight.
We did not know then the consequences of what we had done.
I would like to formally apologise to anyone on here who may have celebrated a hole in one at Worthing Golf Club circa 1969/70. You may now cut your club tie in half!
  • Played the “2nd” course, Dye Valley, at TPC Sawgrass yesterday. 22 points 😂. It was unbelievable though, it looked like a video game.

Currently sat having breakfast in the clubhouse and then going out to play the TV course. Legs like jelly but just going to enjoy the experience.

Enjoy @Addickted2TheReds proper jealous. Let us know how it goes
  • Will do mate!

I’m back in the UK for Saints at home before I fly home if you fancy a pint in the Oak after.
  • Apologies for deflating the thread but one of the two kids, a six-year-old lad, who were trapped by a collapsed wall at the Sidcup Golf Centre, has died. I cannot comprehend what the lad's family is going through. Absolutely heartbreaking. The other child, a five-year-old girl, has thankfully been released from hospital.

    RIP

Anyone have recommendations for a travel case for taking your clubs on a plane?

If you don’t buy a hard case one I suggest you buy a club protector like this. Does the trick

I've been using this for a few years. I'd give it 4 out of 5, I've had to tape a few scrapes but it's been to Australia, Dubai, plus GB&I flights

It has room for shoes and waterproofs so I use those to further protect the clubs and my main bag. I take my driver head off and wrap that in clothing.

A 5/5 bag would be a hard case or more expensive one, so it depends on your budget and how much you travel.

Cool, it folds up well so it can live under a bed. I think a hard pack one would be tougher to store.

It's certainly been chucked around a few airports and I've never had clubs damaged. A little stitching has come undone long term, but I've done a lot of walking with it compared to someone who'd hire a car on holiday.

Where are you planning a trip to?

Nice. I have, Burnside is not a shorter, playful sibling, it is a brute. It's a very underrated course. Buddon is okay, it's a mixed bag. The 18th tee has the best view on the property.

The Championship 18 lives up to its hype and grandeur, maybe not its difficult reputation but I've not played it in wind. It is very very high amongst the best courses I've played  :)

Only started playing a couple of years ago so this will be our first trip abroad.
We’re going to Portugal in March. Algarve, few rounds of golf sorted, gonna try catch a game of football too.

Had a knee replacement on 3rd Feb. Have had a few holes in a buggy over last couple of weeks but, for the first time since the op, I walked 18 in a Comp yesterday. Played off 8, scored 79 gross (just one double bogey), got 36 points and finished 2nd. Absolutely delighted.

Finally received my new golf umbrella — proud to have put it to use during a round yesterday in South Auckland.

A miserable 28pts for me today (playing off comp handicap of 14) but after months of rain, was wonderful playing in sunshine again

We went to Portugal (Algarve) at the end of March for our first ever golf holiday.

We started at Santo Antonio which was actually a late edition to our plans, just as a little opener to our week.
Lovely course, better than we had expected tbh, some cracking views as you’d expect.

Then a couple of days later we moved onto Vale do Lobo, we played both courses, Ocean on the Tuesday and then Royal on the Wednesday. Both absolutely stunning, I preferred the Ocean course but you’d be hard pressed to find a bad hole amongst the 36.
The 16th at Royal highlighted as “the most photographed hole in Europe”.

Vale do Lobo was supposed to be the highlight of our trip and it wouldn’t have let us down if it had remained as such, but when we were booking courses to play we had a “you only live once/once in a lifetime” conversation and decided to not think about the cost and book Dunas., the number 1 course in Portugal.

    Wow.

We left our hotel before 5am to do the couple of hours drive up towards Lisbon and arrived at Dunas, Terras da Comporta golf club.
Now I’ve never flown first class before but I imagine this course is exactly the type of service you get living a first class lifestyle. From the minute we arrived to the minute we left, every single part of the experience was impeccable. Little things like free gifts on arrival (an engraved bag tag and a Dunas branded flask) add to the day.

The driving range was more beautiful than most golf courses I’ve ever seen, the design and layout is incredible, and because every hole is a short buggy ride away from the last, you never actually see anyone else on the course. So once you’ve teed off the first that’s it, it’s like you’re the only ones there. There’s not a blade of grass out of place, the best of everything I can ever describe.

Simply brilliant. Very expensive yet worth every penny 10 times over.

There are plenty of videos of Dunas on YouTube but none of them do it justice, not even 2% of the justice it deserves.

Overall a fabulous week and we are already plotting our next one.
