This feels like it could be the first of 2 LWB12

My mate isn’t a Wigan supporter but if he was he’d probably be the best Wigan supporter ever.LargeAddick said:Has no one got a Wigan supporting mate?10 -
If this guy can keep fit, he is going to be a fantastic left-back for us. Looked a level above the few times I saw him last season (although ironically his lowest rated performance was against us at The Valley!)

Good. He is a left back. This brings our total of theoretically available actual left backs up to one and a half (Roussillon is the half).
We need another though.11 -

In all seriousness it’s sounding like a bit of a gamble but perhaps this is best we could do given the dynamics of the Jan window so far4

"Chambers’ game time will be carefully managed whenever he is deemed fit to return"AFKABartram said:This is Anfield article from NovemberLiverpool left-back targeting return from recurring injury after 8 months out
Liverpool left-back Luke Chambers is nearing a return after spending the majority of the year out with a back injury that has troubled the 21-year-old’s development.
It is nearly two years since Chambers was in Liverpool’s first-team squad, with a role on the bench in the 2-0 FA Cup win over Arsenal in January 2024 his last matchday involvement.
The left-back has taken in two consecutive spells on loan at Wigan since then, but a season-long return to the Latics in the last campaign ended early.
Suffering a persistent back issue, Chambers returned to Liverpool for treatment in March and has not featured in any capacity since.
But This Is Anfield understands he could now be in line for a return before the end of the year, with optimism over his recovery.
Liverpool planning behind-closed-doors friendlies
Any involvement would be with the U21s, who do not have another competitive fixture until January 9 but are set to schedule a number of friendlies in the final weeks of 2025.
“We’ve got a few friendlies planned in December. We’ve got some opportunities and windows to play, which we will do,” U21s head coach Rob Page told the club’s official website.
“It’s important we give the lads minutes. Some will be trying to push to get out on loan in January so they’ll be important games for us.
“We’ll have a couple of days to sit back and reflect and then organise friendlies when we need them.”
Chambers’ game time will be carefully managed whenever he is deemed fit to return, having missed an initial five months with the same back injury before briefly returning for Wigan and then suffering a new eight-month layoff.
So given he's barely played for months i guess it will be a struggle for him to come in and play 90 minutes immediately?2 -
We needed a LWB. We got a LWB. Has some pedigree about him. Suspect he would have been playing in the Championship from the off this season if he hadn't had a major injury. Agree with RedHenry that he's probably the first of two. Welcome Luke, go smash it!9

Thanks for that. I have added a comment onto my original post. Once again though that's more than most of our squad.shirty5 said:

Glad we've got a left back. Would just be nice to sign someone without recent injury problems. Recurring back injury sounds worrying. Good luck to him, big test straight up on Saturday.3

What do people expect said this before your not going to get the best players from teams in January if you look around there hardly any transfers all loans … Liverpool fans saying good things about him .. the kid needs games so a good fit and good signing …. But please let’s not hear he needs time to settle in start him Saturday with Clarke on the right let’s start as we mean to see out this season .. hopefully Bell not far off , Jones will be fit and we have Ramsey Burke and Gillesphey not forgetting Gough5

He must have pissed someone at Liverpool
off…..they are punishing him by sending to partner up with Gillespy. Poor sod will be in bits come FT Saturday!
Just to add, never heard of him, hope it works out.4 -
I messaged my so called wigan associate and got backLargeAddick said:Has no one got a Wigan supporting mate?

So there's still hope we sign Junior Ligue?WillmoreTheRed said:Played 12 games for Wigan last year. 21 year old. Feels like a huge gamble, hope he’s just the back up.0 -
Don’t know if this is a good or bad signing, welcome Luke hope it works out. Few people at the club will look a bit silly if it doesn’t.0
-
Wouldn't surprise me if Ligue is still an option. We're going to probably need 2 LWBs so we can manage Bell too.ken_shabby said:

Having just read his Wiki, I am thinking we might have been better off with Luke Littler8

No but this article was written after talking to a Wigan fan about him... Looks very promising on talent alone.. so is for the optimists.

For the pessimists, you can focus your efforts on this thread on the Wigan fan site about his injuries.

Something for everyone.
Personally, I am just delighted we have a talented LWB at last, especially as Millwalls best player is their right winger, Azziz. A true baptism of fire awaits.4 -

His focus is goals and assists so Macca might not be getting much assistance on Saturdayfenaddick said:0 -
Seems a genuinely nice lad... Didnt realise he'd have played with Kelman @ Wiganfenaddick said:4 -
Really hope he's good, pleased we've actually signed a left back/left wing back.
Would like another left-back too for competition/cover at LB/LCB given Bell and Edwards' injuries and Gillesphey's form.
Shame.Amass is going to Norwich, looked decent at Wednesday.7 -
Back up to Roussillon.Stig said:
Welcome Luke. No hint in his quote that he might not be fit, "We’ve obviously got a big game on Saturday, so I’m looking forward to playing in front of the fans and showing them what I’ve got".AFKABartram said:Was out for 9 months till 18th December with a back injury, but played half hour then & a couple of U21 games since. Did 60 mins on Saturday
Then again, we've not seen Roussillon yet.1 -
Good signing provided he’s one of two incoming on that side of defence. If it’s just him then we’re in trouble.1
-
Searched his name on a couple of Wigan forums…..seems to a collective response by most people on there. ‘Good player, but always injured’0
-
We need a lcb who can also cover lwb if required so we don't have to play Gillesphey except in an emergency4
-
Chambers is a bright prospect. I've heard his name mentioned several times when hearing of Liverpool prospects. His problem that has held him back has been injuries, so there is an element of risk obviously. Not ideal that it is mainly Wigan experience, but remember that Conor Bradley's was mainly at League 1 Bolton and nobody would turn him down.6

There’s a thread on X with Wigan fans giving their opinions. The overwhelming verdict is that he’s quality but made of popadoms.Clem_Snide said:Searched his name on a couple of Wigan forums…..seems to a collective response by most people on there. ‘Good player, but always injured’4
