POST MATCH THREAD : Charlton Athletic V Portsmouth : Tuesday 17th February 2026 : KO 19:45
I'm subbing in for @LoOkOuT again tonight for the rearranged Pompey home fixture. We named a largely unchanged team apart from Leaburn being back in for Godden, who apparently has a hamstring injury (hopefully not too bad), and the man, the myth, the legend that is Collins Sechenje being on the bench again.
First half was not happy viewing - a shot from distance went under Kaminski's legs to make it 1-0, the ref gave a penalty to Portsmouth for the ball being hit against Bell's arm, which was converted to make it 2-0. While we were absolutely not the better side, we really weren't helped by the ref, who was distinctly card happy, booking 5 of our players to Portsmouth's 1.
Half time saw 3 subs, with Campbell, Coventry and Fevrier coming on for Leaburn, Coady and Clarke, but we didn't look vastly improved immediately, and conceded a screamer of a 3rd in the 56th minute. We gradually got a bit more into it, and Fevrier got his first goal for the club in the 64th minute. We had a few more chances in the last half an hour but never really looked like getting back into it, and Pompey still caused us issues on the break.
Final score: Charlton 1 Portsmouth 3, over to you.

The early bookings did for us and we didn’t have the nous to adjust.

I thought missing out on a promotion at work would be the worst thing to happen to me this week, but watching that shite has just beaten it12

Ebou Adams might not be able to hold a pen the right way up but he can really run a midfield. Exactly who we should have signed in January22

seriously pissed off with that. perfect opportunity to pull clear. Portsmouth's B team turn up and roll us over.many saying performance wasn't as bad as Millwall or Southampton, I disagree its worse.we are by no means safe at all, tonight was a perfect opportunity, and we delivered that.

No consistency. No creativity. No Plan B.
Id be lying if I said I enjoyed watching this side. Midfield needs a serious overhaul in the summer.
Kaminski. Less said the better.20 -
Fucking love Nathan Jones football missing it already. Cant wait for Saturday COYR37

I didn't enjoy that because it wasn't very good.13

Dreadful performance. So negative at home against one of the bottom teams. We made them look like Brazil. We ain’t winning many games till the end of the season playing like that. Hopefully we can scrape enough to stay up. Very despondent after that, they out fought and outplayed us. We should have been more positive after our last couple of games.22

That was back to how we were playing in January, as bad as it’s been all season (possibly Millwall away excepted).4

At least the "let's look up the table" comments can stop now. 4th bottom is success this season. And I'm in the minority but I just don't rate Dykes, especially at home. Too slow and immobile.7

Less said about this evening then better, awful all round. Only way is up I suppose1

This ref made Keith Stroud look like Pierluigi Collina

I’ve been dealing with work bullshit for the last 2 hours so I’ve been preoccupied……
WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED?!?!1 -
Out fought and out thought by a relegation rival - not good. Need a reaction on Saturday.

Struggling to work out if the ref was corrupt or inept, but sadly having no trouble working out which one our team was. At home against one of the worst teams in the league who have 14 injuries and we put in an absolutely cowardly performance. Wake up call for the people inexplicably saying we were safe after Stoke.10

One of many dreadful home games I've had to sit through this season. We're good at defending our box but that's about it. Our game plan is to defend our box and try and nick a goal.
When something unforeseen happens, like the first goal tonight we don't have the skill or tactic fluidity to do anything about it.10 -
Not good but this team can’t get derailed.Assess it, learn from it, park it and move on.COYRs8

Just shite today. Not at the races, we can’t afford to lose games like that, it’s dragged us right back into it2

Frustrating, but still a poor performance, especially as we started the game so strongly, if the ball had fallen to Dykes or Leaburn rather than Clarke we'd have had an early goal to protect and we're usually strong at doing that - Instead we, for some reason, started to retreat in on ourselves and never truly recovered from a bit of a worldie that the Goalkeeper should have saved.Pompey for all their injuries though, showed me on Saturday that they're not a shite side at the moment, and having watched them lose (perhaps unfairly) against Sheff Utd, tonight almost felt as though they took out their frustration on us from that match, they certainly carried over their performance from the weekend, and wouldn't be surprised if Mousinho was wanting to see a reaction from the chances that they wasted that game.Shame as at Leicester; Dykes and Leaburn worked so well together, but tonight just couldn't get a grip on things... Guess it just re-iterates that these Footballers are still human, they're not robots so no reason for them not to have occasional setbacks - Onwards to Southampton... Long way to go yet.16

I had more fun in a & e for 12 hours yesterday, just to get antibiotics!4

Charlton, a must not lose game and on Sky. It's always the hope that gets you.2

He has the most assists of anyone in our squad (including one tonight) and has played 6 games for us, he's been key to our recent uptick in formMortimerwasgod said:At least the "let's look up the table" comments can stop now. 4th bottom is success this season. 100% agree on Dykes. Respect the effort but feels he could lose a 100m race to a donkey.Mortimerwasgod said:At least the "let's look up the table" comments can stop now. 4th bottom is success this season. Him and Leaburn together must be a defenders dream.4 -
Typical. Chance to open a gap and we implode. If we narrowly get relegated tonight will be one we regret.3

I suppose Fevrier looked as though he could be dangerous in the right team.Sadly one sub does not a team make.0

Ref was a complete joke and the soft bookings probably did unsettle us but that was a horrible performance.
Zero attempts to play football, just endless hoofing. 2nd to everything. Outfought and out thought by a bang average Pompey side that's been decimated by injuries. Performances like that show we're not safe by any stretch. Need a big response or we'll quickly get sucked back into it. Barring Dykes, who never stopped despite being given nothing but long balls to try and win, im not sure anyone comes out with any credit tonight.

We didn't turn up tonight.
Out thought, out fought.7
