I am going to say it!! Yes I am, Nathan Jones......................

Think it’s a bit a both guessing Jones had a say in the signings but also think he could have been restricted by the model of developing younger players we could make profit on and picking up players who would be on lower wages for this level. Also had 3 weeks less preparation than everyone and neither us or Jones had played/managed in the championship for years so there was no recency experience and knowledge what you needed to stay upJohnnyH2 said:

Yeah, get rid of him and bring in someone with a proven track record of getting teams out of League One. Nathan Jones would be available.Leuth said:

If we pull off a near impossible relegation with what would be losing our last 5 or 6 home games on the spin and not beating Wednesday, that is a Charlton managerial failure beyond anything in my lifetime, and if he wasn't sacked then honestly what is the point of anything. Miserable fucking football to end up back where we started? How about we build another way8
-
If we stay up, then sure, let him build a better Championship side. But I am not going through all this again from L11
-
Don’t get me wrong it would be an embarrassing way to get relegated but we had Adkins, Garner, JJ, Holden, Appleton, Slade Robinson all in L1 over the last 10 years and they all couldn’t get us up.Leuth said:If we pull off a near impossible relegation with what would be losing our last 5 or 6 home games on the spin and not beating Wednesday, that is a Charlton managerial failure beyond anything in my lifetime, and if he wasn't sacked then honestly what is the point of anything. How about we build another wayThe only managers that have are Bowyer and Jones and funnily enough Bowyer had a better team in L1 than Jones does in the championship besides Lloyd Jones and Edwards (which doesn’t count as he’s been out all year) and obviously any striker over Parker but even then he had half a season with Grant. Guess also Ramsay but that’s still a debate with Dijksteel1 -
The idea is that we've put up with this abomination of a football style with the aim to stay up through gritted teeth.
If we can't even do that, we've got one of the worst footballing styles to watch, and not even getting enough points to make it worth it.
'Jones football' isn't suddenly going to turn into an entertaining spectacle overnight so next season would see a nosedive in interest in League One.2 -
I don't think the Apter signing is working out but considering how limited the budget was, Kaminski was a good signing, Bell, Bree and Carey were great signings, Kelman was a good signing with more to come from him, Rankin-Costello and Knibbs were decent value signings who we haven't seen enough of yet and it remains to be seen with Tanto but hopefully he'll turn his mindset around because he has the ability. The signings didn't overhaul the first team squad totally but they were always unlikely to given the sheer amount of work needed. The most important areas to upgrade were in goal, RWB and at LCB and we did that to decent effect. The midfield has shown itself to be just about passable and is surely the focus for next season where we need fewer signings and so can bring in better players hopefully. The reality is whenever you have a budget as small as ours every signing will end up falling into the gamble category and you're not going to get them all paying off. We spent £1.5m on two players for the attacking midfield spot and got great value for that. At RWB we spent around £2m on getting in Apter and Bree and that was partially successful in that Bree and later Clarke have been good. I think barring Tanto and Apter unless they turn things around in preseason we'll be looking at building on the bones of a decent enough squad, we just need to make sure we add the bits of quality necessary on top of what we currently have. Two decent centre mids, a permanent RWB and another decent striker and I think this summer will look better as part of a longer term building processse9addick said:

I'm not sure many would agree that Kelman and Kaminski were good signings at the money we paid.Garrymanilow said:

If we get through this bumpy ride, I hope to god NJ is learning a fucking lot from this season about tactics and recruitment, that’s all I can say, I’ve been fully behind him up until now, but he has to be realistic about his overall approach and how he does things going forward as should we stay up I can’t see the same approach and players working again, we’ve been seriously found out.4

Kaminski's been fine. Not great, not terrible and cost £1m, which for an experienced Championship keeper with recent Premier League experience felt like a good get. Norwich spent twice that on their new keeper and he has fewer clean sheets than Kaminski this season, it's really not a great deal of money for this level. Same with Kelman, we don't know how much of the fee is conditional anyway but he's managed 6 goals and an assist this season which is about what we expected in his first Championship season, 7 was my top end estimate, and he's 24 years old and on a long contract. More to come from him for sure and compare him to the signings of Furuhashi, Priske, Agyemang, Strelec, Coburn, Kvistgaarden, Idah etc he's a much cheaper signing than any of them, so well below the going rate for a striker at this level but only two of those players have scored more league goals than him this seasonCroydon said:

I would Kelman. He’s had a disrupted season with an injury, didn’t have a proper pre season and is still our league top scorer with 6 despite playing less games than Leaburn or TC. If we are having this same discussion this time next season then I might agree but I don’t think we will be, I think he’ll be fine, more than fine.Croydon said:

Agree to disagree. A 34yo Matt Godden (also back from injury with no pre season) still being infinitely sharper and the preferred option when needing something from a game, says it all imo.

Call me crazy if you like, I’d try Godden and Kelman, cut the lumping it up to championship defenders that will lap it up🤷🏻♂️se9addick said:

I think we'll just about be ok, but my god we've made it a lot harder for ourselves than it needed to be.
This season has been a real slog & the football for large parts of the season has been hard to watch. If we stay up, I think the experience will see everything improve next season. If we don't stay up, I don't fancy watching another season of this kind of dross in league 1 next season. I don't think Jones will stick around if we go down though, as I don't think he will fancy another season in league 1 either.
In his own mind, I think he thinks he's better than that. Many would disagree though!!0 -
I’d like to see TC and Godden, they linked up well at the end of last season. Surely it’s worth a go for 60 mins if Godden is fit enoughSword65pf said:

I’d like to leave TC out wide, we need goals, TC doesn’t score.fenaddick said:

No I mean have him wide and the other two, he should be nowhere near being considered a striker, he doesn’t think like one. On one occasion yesterday we had a cross come in where he should have been back stick and hadn’t even tried to make the move, not for the first time this season, he doesn’t have the instincts.fenaddick said:

Against Wendies I would have TC Godden AND one of the big men (Leaburn if fit). Godden will find space in the box against lesser defenders. We have to have a go at this one! It's a cup final5

Have been a supporter of his, but I think he has lost his way a bit recently.Agree with what others have said about the finish as high as we can comments.1
