They just don't learn. Depending on the incident, involving a Saracen academy rugby player, this could well be Stokes last season. Certainly as captain anyway.1

I can see a world where you go out celebrating a win and make some bad decisions and end up staying past curfew. Whatever’s happened here is clearly bigger than that but let's ignore that for now. I think it shows the culture around drinking in this team or maybe even cricket more widely is far behind elite sports. I'm lots of other sports those at the elite level won't drink full stop during the season and many will limit themselves to a drink or two during the season. The fact that this has happened enough times in the middle of series at the elite international level shows that they simply aren't as serious about fitness and recovery as other sports. Or maybe it's just this team and others are better?

I think Rob Key wasn't being totally honest when previously interviewed on Sky about the Ashes in saying that only one or two had a problem and that it wasn't cultural. Root, Bairstow, Brook, Hales, Duckett, Stokes, Atkinson and Bethell have all been investigated. Be a nightmare for the ECB if this does end up with Stokes dropping the captaincy. The only option in this current squad is Brook, a very good player although I think the captaincy is slightly to soon for him. The other aspect is that I do not see the wicket for the next Test now being anything other than seam friendly. We can't go in with just three seamers and Bashir in case one of those breaks down (as Henry did and Robinson has done several times in the past) and it would mean our tail starting at 7.Notts_Addick said:

So, I think Rew will come in, plus four seamers with Bethell and Root having to bowl the spin overs. Bashir, after missing out in the Ashes and not bowling a single ball in this Test might rightly think he's jinxed in those circumstances.0 -

I have heard one (and this is just a rumour so please don't quote me) and that is that neither Atkinson or Stokes instigated the incident involving the Saracens academy player. Even if that is the case, it still does not justify them being in the nightclub after curfew given the warnings that they were given post Ashes. If it does turn out they didn't instigate anything and the only thing they have done wrong is break the curfew I suspect Stokes might just get away with it based purely on the fact there are so few obvious replacements for the captaincy.
I do think the curfew is a bit of a silly idea but you would have to assume Stokes agreed to it and therefore to break it is incredibly naive especially as captain and especially given the current narrative around the test side. However, I'm not sure that alone would (or should) be enough for him to lose the captaincy.
It is interesting nothing further has leaked yet, usually it is all out in the public domain immediately. Hopefully that perhaps means it is something innocuous and the ECB have just decided to get ahead of things to avoid the same mistakes they made with the Brook/Bouncer shenanigans. However the quote about selection for the second test is interesting, not sure that needed to be said unless there was a very real possibility that they are not going to be selected.
The debate about drinking is very interesting. It often feels the old pro's turned pundits don't really want to go near the subject as I've no doubt the culture was probably even worse back in their day so it would be very hard for them to criticise without looking like complete hypocrites.

I just don't understand it. After the Ashss debacle with Brook & Duckett you'd think they would do all they could to stay out of trouble......not being in a nightclub after midnight being the first one !
