On what basis does it "appear to you" that the police would want a video circulated of an arrest operation against a person who is, as yet, not charged?CaptainRobbo said:
Has appeared all over the place, not just The Sun.sam3110 said:It's The Sun, you reckon they ask anyone permission for anything?
Aappears to me that the Police wanted it to be seen.
The Press still have to abide by contempt of court rules, to ensure no prejudice takes place before any future trial takes place.1 -
Maybe so they can be seen to be on top of things.
Why have the Press released it otherwise?0 -
I would stop speculating and wait for the police investigation to be concludedCaptainRobbo said:

Police demonstrate they are "on top of things" by releasing information stating they have apprehended a suspect in connection with their investigation, which they did before the tawdry tabloid published the video.CaptainRobbo said:Maybe so they can be seen to be on top of things.

The video does not tell you anything you didn't already know about the ongoing operation of the investigation.
The video was only published by the Sun in order to satisfy and develop macabre curiosity and ghoulish criminophilia. The task facing the police has not been made easier by the release of the video. Ergo, the police would not have benefited from its release.4 -

It’s human nature to speculate. Pretty pointless telling people not to.11

Just wait for the police investigation. Apart from close family, no one else needs to know, and they will be kept informed as much as they can be by the FLOArsenetatters said:It’s human nature to speculate. Pretty pointless telling people not to.4 -
The problem comes when speculation becomes mis/disinformation, leading to more violence. Innocent people have been targeted because speculation becomes the truth for some.Arsenetatters said:It’s human nature to speculate. Pretty pointless telling people not to.6 -
It can be harmful. And it is of no benefit whatsoever.Arsenetatters said:It’s human nature to speculate. Pretty pointless telling people not to.
So, when the police and victims' families express requests not to entertain wild, thoughtless speculation, it's better not to.
But, you do you.2 -
Confirmed it was a targeted attack.0
-
They’re just shit scared of the extreme right wing, always have been.
They will hope this turns out to be a lone wolf nutter, not an extreme left wing targeted attack.2 -
Hit over the head with a hammer 21 times by a left wing loon. What a terrible way to go.0
-
I suspect this attack was done by a bastard with mental health issues. He definitely doesn't represent me or others on the left. I find it hard to believe somebody was capable of such an attack and feel so bad at what Ann Widdecombe, a 78 year old woman must have gone through. This nutter should never be freed.6

Where are you getting this? I've seen the bit about the hammer but not about his ideology, the last I read was 'determining the motivation, including any possible political motivation, remains an active avenue of investigation', which was from the police 3 hours agocafcnick1992 said:Hit over the head with a hammer 21 times by a left wing loon. The papers were claiming he had downloaded a Communist Manifesto. They had said that a female cousin of his has put on social media about people killing Farage and Trump in the past as well. Far right or far left you are not right in the head if it makes you want to hurt people.Garrymanilow said:

I hadn't read that. Where did you find this? I've found a Daily Mail article that says 'items of varying political ideology, including Russian material, have been found at the suspect's home and on electronic devices' though it doesn't say what those other political ideologies are oddly so that can't possibly be it. Couldn't find anything about the cousin either, though I'm not sure of it's relevance anyway, I've got cousins that I haven't seen in years and I don't have any idea what their ideologies are let alone want to be associated with them. Where should I be looking for this stuff?cfgs said:

All pure speculation at this point. Papers have reported various versions of the story including "robbery went wrong", "he was known to her" etc. They wont have access to his PC so wont know what hes downloaded if the police havent said. It will all come out in time.1
-
This case is now sub judice.
A suspect has now been charged. Which means that idle speculation moves from merely unhelpful to potentially breaking the law. (You know, unlimited fine, up to two years in prison. That sort of thing).
Out of respect for the victim and for the judicial process, it would be far better if tittle-tattle, slander, malicious gossip and scandal-mongering were kept to the absolute bare minimum. Or less.13 -
This is a typical example of the death sentence being warranted6

No idea, it definitely popped up as a story of relevance on my phone. Probably as I checked out the BBC articles etc, as she was my MP. The thing about the cousin also did but idiots often say things they don't mean.Garrymanilow said:

The communist manifesto is in various articles as they refer to communist ideologies of a Russian nature. TBH I wouod rather they didn't share his name and face at every occasion, can't they wait until after his trial?cfgs said:

Even though you don't know what happened, or why, or what the motives might have been? Or who might have been involved, who might have instigated the events, who might have encouraged them? Even though there hasn't been a conviction, verdict, plea or even trial? Even though a death sentence is a significantly greater cost to the taxpayer than a life sentence?R0TW said:This is a typical example of the death sentence being warranted
Wouldn't it be better, all-round, to go through the full, fair judicial process, protecting the interests of all sides and then deciding on guilt or innocence before leaping to sentencing?12 -

On the speculation side, I feel sorry for the gardener as I have seen him mentioned on here from memory which means I'm guessing other places too... He is actually the person who was asked to go and check on her, and found her (and this is from court statements, not social media).0 -
Obviously guilt would need to be proven. If proven, then this would be my idea of a fair sentenceChizz said:

By guilt, premeditate murder with no logical reasoning why this act should be committed.
perhaps you could explain why a life sentence would be cheaper?
I don’t get that bit.
