With the exception of Grant do any of our signings look to be better than what we had last season ? With the signings that we are making & the fact that NJ is having to bring in trialists it doesn't seem to me that our owners are fully behind this & we are sleep walking our way back to Division Three. We had the bullshit last year of how we were promoted a year too soon & despite signing some turkeys Jones performed a miracle to keep us up with a couple of quality loan signings in the January window. I really hoped that we would push on this season & without spending silly money bring in some decent quality championship level signings, instead it seems we are scrabbling around in poundland. Please prove me wrong Charlton.6

There are definitely still major issues with the team, but next week's EFL Cup game has definitely affected the way teams have approached pre season, certainly the way we've approached it, as I'm sure we would have been WAY more focused today if Derby was next week, and not 2 weeks away. Instead we have a "winnable" EFL Cup game to get ready for Derby.
And without that cup game, the game today would have been against "more exciting" opposition too, which in itself would have upped the performance for a few of the players. Ramsay, for example, was really casual today, whereas against bigger name opposition he would have been properly switched on, for his own career and social media highlight reels, if nothing else.
It was probably easier for Reading to up their game, playing a team from a higher division.
Next week is important. We need to get the squad ready, but more importantly need to get our main players and system ready, it really isn't an occasion to play the squad players and kids.1 -

I only got to watch the first half. It looked like what it was, a mish mash of players not meant to represent the starting eleven when the season opens for business. I would guess the second half with its substitutions would have been similar. I was surprised at the final score when I got to catch up later but it’s a good timely kick up the arse for Nathan and the players0

I must admit I am a very positive fan and try not to dwell on the negative but this post hits home. I think your key word there is 'affordable'. Millions of pounds don't go very far to buy very good quality midfielders in the Champ. I suspect we have been priced out so far. Being srcond favourites for relegation can't help. Which talented, ambitious player would come here if they have better options.AberystwythAddick said:

Charlton, it's never too late to hire me to be head of recruitment. I'd have got us out of League 1 four years ago and I'd do it for a fraction of the price of whatever you pay these dinosaurs.

That was a disgraceful performance today. There is little or no link between any of the respective formats. And they look unfit and disorganised. Our current Manager must take responsibility for this.
I suspect he has lost the player's respect and belief in him. Where is the creativity he speaks of ? Again, down to his recruitment
Midfield was at best, there. Yet again no creativity. Playing wingers seems to expose their deficiencies even more.
We're on the road to nowhere except relegation with this Board, executive and Manager.
Buy or die, about 4 or 5 decent players needed.

Sorry to say, unless there are 2 or 3 major signings before then, we will lose against Derby.
Last season we limped over the relegation safely line. Winning 1 in God know how many. The football was dire and nothing I saw this afternoon shows me that we have addressed the problems from last season.10 -

When you consider our record signing of 4.75 million pounds was 26 years ago - a sum that would be equivalent to 11 - 12 million today it makes one wonder if being sustainable is ... er sustainable.Braziliance said:
