Summer Window 2026 - Rumours and Discussion (DEADLINE DAY from Page 814)

Comments

  • Back to Ali. Why have some decided he’s a bad signing?
I don’t think they have. The comment was in the context of having too many players in the squad and wondering whether we really needed him if it meant getting rid of someone more useful.
  • IF JRS had to choose between Burnley or us and the wages were comparable I think it is a no-brainer that he would land in SE7. The IF relates to genuine interest, affordability of transfer fee and whether JRS himself is aiming for higher than Champ level football. I really hope we get him. The more headaches we give to opps teams and their managers the better!
  • Where did the Patrick Roberts link come from?
We’re looking for a right winger, he’s available and is quite good. 29 is a bit outside the age bracket we’ve been looking for.
  • Anthony Joseph of Sky now tweeting out the McAtee link. Wouldn't be too inspired by that signing if it happened

Rich has put up an article on Okonkwo but already replied in the comments to someone that it’s not because a deal is close. Includes thoughts from a Wrexham fan on his strengths, weaknesses, why he’s likely to leave etc.
Yes, I am not sold on him as a keeper. And not sure he is any better than we have to be honest. I think there is better out there, and don't think he is going to be cheap.

He is 3rd choice of a championship club.
Although I'm not sure about his ability either, I think he is only  out of favour because he will not sign an extension to his contract as he wants to move back to London.

    What’s he like in goal ? 😉
  • I'd love Patrick Roberts he isn't consistent but hes a gifted footballer and I think Jones could get the best out of him.

He plays at 10 though. Surely that means Knibbs or Carey are being sold?
  • Allegedly we’re one of 4 clubs interested in Bolton’s John McAtee
Played well on the weekend. Can’t see them selling him. Especially to a team they may see as a relegation rival.
Maybe there is a deal to be done with Apter going the other way? Although I don’t think he set the world alight on loan there last season.

Schumacher questioned his attitude so I can't see Apter being wanted back there.

    Or we aren’t actually interested

Feels like another throw a few names around to make someone look like they beat " championship interest" to sign him in League 1
  • McAtee doesn't make sense, if it was because one of Carey or Knibbs was being sold, I don't think he's an upgrade on them, and it's not like any of them can shift to the right wing, when Carey played wide for Blackpool he was on the left

Is it a no brainer if Burnley are one of the favourites for promotion and we’re in a relegation mix?
  • Wages shouldn’t really be the end of the world for JRS
if Burnley offer his an extra £5k a week it actually doesn’t matter to him if he’s already made several million in his fledgling career - which is currently stagnating.
on a personal level where is he more likely to progress?  Near friends and family, at a place where he is loved and playing alongside his best mate.
Or in the armpit of Northern England, isolated from loved ones.  He may make a bit more money but he’s probably not on the breadline right now.

this is one of those instances you want his representative to put the player first as opposed to the pound signs.

if we can incentivise him and revitalise him, he could very quickly be that £10m bracket again and that’s in everyone’s best interests
  • If he’s going into his last year as people have said, I honestly can’t see Palace getting more than £3m for JRS.  He’s slightly living off a reputation he made in League one 3 seasons ago. He did ok at Sheffield utd.

In my opinion, his stock is currently no higher than Campbell’s.

From what I have heard he’s a quiet, shy young man who likes being around friends and family. I am sure he’d probably like to come back here, it’s just a case of whether we can meet the demands of what Palace and he want.

If it does happen then I would suggest it will be a big factor in Campbell signing a new contract.

Would love it to happen but I won’t believe it until I see it.
  • Back to JRS - he is close mates with TC. It's not like they dont talk - he must have told TC if a deal can be reached with Palace he would want to join and we will know that.

Dont think there is any issue with the player - it's a simple case of whether we can get the deal done with Palace.
  • Allegedly we’re one of 4 clubs interested in Bolton’s John McAtee
This would be a good signing but seems very random. Would Jones have managed him and that's where the link is coming from?

Just seen it's FLW linking him, seems like a bit of lazy journalism. I wouldn't mind him but I think goalkeeper and right wing are far more important now.

    No thanks!
  • It might not be possible but Callum McCowatt is the right wing option that seems the most exciting to me.
He can play through the middle a bit too.

If we do get him, I think he will prove to be the best signing in the championship this season! And someone that could make a big difference in where we finish this season.

He can play anywhere across the front really can’t he.

I think Okonkwo has been unfairly treated by Wrexham. They tried to replace him with Ward last season and he ended up playing most of their games. From what I've seen he'd be an improvement and has room to get better too. Their fans love him.
But fans also say, he makes a lot of mistakes and kicks the ball out of play. Did Ward get injured and missed big chunks of the season. I also think Ward is bang average as well.

Maybe he might improve bit like Pope did.. Not sure any of us, saw him going on to have the career he did. Maybe we TK going and him coming in, we have a more valuable asset.

That's an extra quarter of a million a year

Mmmh, just as a disclaimer for those reading, that's an opinion rather than a fact, as you don't know the chap personally, right?!
  • Onkwonko deal agreed just popped up on my Facebook page. But cant find it again now so its not entirely reliable.

It's an interesting choice, if it's a straight choice between us and Burnley

Burnley can offer him more money, and the chance to play for a club chasing promotion, as opposed to one targeting comfortable survival.

On the other hand, he seems the type of person who plays better when he's happy. We're close to home, and an environment which he has happy memories about. Plus he'd be a "star" player with us, whereas at Burnley he'd be a squad player fighting for a place.

I'm pretty sure we're the only fanbase and club excited at the thought of signing him, as we have the memory of the L1 loan, whereas other clubs will just see the reasonable, but nothing stellar Championship loans. It's potentially a similar situation to the Kamara one, where Pompey always had that advantage.

If I was Palace I'd accept a lower fee for him from us, but with a bigger sell on percentage, as he's more likely to increase in value with us.
  • One thing I did have to laugh about in the Cawley piece on Okonkwo was their fan saying that if he'd signed a new deal he'd be worth £5-6m. Absolutely ludicrous. Wrexham, famously overpayers, just paid £8m for a keeper from a Premier League club with 147 Championship appearances under his belt. The idea that anyone is paying £6m for their third choice keeper with one Championship season where he wasn't meant to be first choice and lower EFL experience before that is laughable. Radek Vitek and Daniel Peretz went for about that and they were signed from top teams by promotion hopefuls. Typical Wrexham fans living in a different world

It's an interesting link, we don't really have a pure 10/second striker imo. Closest from what I have seen is Karlan Grant based on the Derby game. Knibbs isn't technical enough, Carey doesn't seem to have the know how to play there, JRC is too lightweight.

McAtee has a goal in him and is better on the ball than most of our midfielders. He would be a good option in certain games.

I saw a Bolton fan saying he is worth about 500k.

Call me delusional, but I reckon if it's us or Burnley and the wage disparity isn't too wide, he will pick us.

Been fairly unsuccessful elsewhere, knows if he comes here he will be an almost guaranteed starter, stays near family, Tyreece is his best mate, friends with Kayne as well and I genuinely think he loved being here.

I reckon if we offer Palace a reasonable fee and we offer Jes decent Champ wages, he would sign.
I’m not for one second calling you delusional but if Burnley are involved then there’s little chance of JRS coming here. What they can offer Palace and in a fee and wages to the player will override any preference he has. Shame as he could really shine in our squad. Instead he’ll spend most of the season on the bench. He only comes here if no other team comes in for him, could happen, but it’s slim.
  • - Mcatee is 100% agent talk nothing about his ability, profile, position even makes it a deal that we would want to do.

    - I’d take JRS back but should be for a fee similar to that of Kamara to Pompey or feel like we would have over paid think his time at Charlton in a crap side is overflating him as a player.

    - Okonkwo wouldn’t take us to the next level but is better than what we have and for what it would cost to take him out of Wrexham you won’t find better at that price
