I found this quite an interesting quote from NJ via Rich

“We kind of have deals in place and offers that we can push the button on,” said Jones. “We have to juggle that and see what we need - to give us the best squad moving forward from September 1 until January 1.

“That is what we have to do, make really good sane decisions now on who we let go and who we bring in.”

I don't want to read too much into that but that doesn't sound like a manager that just is signing a RW....
I think that was about outgoings mainly
I think I've said it before but I imagine we've got different lists that we work through - one of the "essentials" and another that is more of a wish list or on a needs must basis.
So either JRS or A.N. Other RW was always going to be sought, but NJ would have stuck with Kaminski/Mannion as the keepers until more recent developments, and then Okwonko was bought in.
We also need to get a few more out of the door, and how successful we are there will decide if we make any cheeky last minute moves.

Either way its so refreshing to not be going into the last day with no fullbacks and one half fit striker as we've done before.

If Holsgrove is off on the motorway to another club, Nathan Jones needs to give Curbs a bell and find out how he intercepted Claus Jensen at the services on the way to Ipswich. Don’t know if many people know that story.
Would love to hear it please

I think your last sentence sums it up best for me. Traditionally we've been scrabbling round for loans and free agents to fill spots. Now there’s rumours about multimillion pound signings.

    We've come so far recently

I’m struggling a little with the Holsgrove stuff.

I’ve never heard of him, but I had in my head he’d had a cemented Champ / L1 career here before moving abroad.  Doesn’t appear he’s played a game in the UK and has been moving around small clubs with small attendances in Europe.

On paper, Can’t see how he can justify a decent Champ wage or competition across multiple clubs.

Someone put my right on this please on what I’m not seeing.
I’m like you mate and genuinely have no clue on the fella but he seems to be highly rated on here so I guess he must be decent although my attitude towards him completely irrationally is fuck him he didn’t want to sign a few weeks ago so he can do one lol

I’d give my left bollock to see Docherty score the winner against Spurs in what could be his final start for us.
I would do the same to see Collins or Ouma put Savinho 6ft up in the air in a sort of welcome to the Championship kind of way lol

From a source at Palace, I am told that both Charlton and Palace have agreed a deal for JRS and that JRS has also agreed terms with us.

Apparently, everything is ready to go, but Palace are holding off in the hope that a bigger bid comes in. If no bid comes in by the end of transfer deadline day, he will be joining us.
Surely that means a deals not been agreed then
Actually that should have read “ informally agreed”…….if indeed it’s a trustworthy comment in the first place?

He wouldnt get in the team now.

He's not a better right back than McNamara or Ramsay.

And no way is he getting in ahead of TC or JRS on either side of the 3. His finishing and crossing is nowhere near JRS ability on the right.

He would likely be where he is now for Preston. On the bench. Thats not trying to be harsh - just an honest take. Maybe it worked out ok for both parties.

Holsgrove is unproven but with great passing stats or so I read on here. I'd never heard of him before this summer.

He's not played in England but is British which means no work permit and fewer issues to integrate.

He is, I guess, a relatively cheap punt to either sell or develop with us.

    Or QPR.

The same. I'd never heard of him and didn't know the lack of experience part. To be honest our scouting seems to be on a nice upward curve so I'm prepared to trust those who know more than me.

Don’t think so.  Evidence was that we were signing frees with injury records (who have started really well) .  If we sign one of these two for decent fees, fair play to the board, but it’s not humble pie territory .

Hopefully Jones will keep a sub up his sleeve to allow a last minute substitution for Docherty to earn a deserved standing ovation from our fans if it’s his last appearance he deserves that much.

The amount of bedwetting on here earlier this summer, there’s definitely some humble pie being served already

JRS will be 4mil and Holsgrove has been quoted at 3.5? Both would be on big wages... Not quite sure what qualifies as humble pie territory

Any more clichés ? Jonesball ? Ultimately we’re all delighted at how well we are doing and if we sign JRS permanently , it’s been a good window , but I can understand why fans weren’t happy with our business.

So say we sign JRS and Holsgrove over the next couple of days, who else have we been linked to this summer that we can agonise over for the remaining few days of the transfer window?

Surely we can't go in to deadline day already satisfied, we are football fans, we always want MORE.

Holsgrove is ALL about the stats

accuracy, progressive passes, pass completions and passes per game are all well in excess of anything we have.
he is always looking to make something happen rather than being safe to pad his stats.

Progressive passing is infinitely more valuable that just recycling passing and he was one of the highest in the league in Portugal - not bad considering Estoril are not exactly high flying.

not convinced we’ll get him but if he is half as good as Andy Reid at pulling the strings in the middle I’ll get his face tattooed on Ronnie’s arse

    From Palace forum

Absolutely ridiculous that we (reportedly) turned down a £10M bid from Southampton only 12 months ago!

Utterly bonkers we didn’t cash in then.
I heard that Rak-Sakyi didn't want to go.
