Paragraphs!Garrymanilow said:
Obviously we haven't signed JRS yet and I'm not convinced there's anything in the Holsgrove links at the moment so it would be pretty hypocritical to get overexcited before it happens, but the whole point is that people shouldn't overreact, or even react really, until the window closes. From the start of the window Jones has been saying this is going to be a slower one and we will get the biggest deals done at the end. The free transfers and players on lower wages are the easiest to do; McNamara and Grant on frees, Mesik and Koumetio in from much smaller clubs and then the more complicated ones happen. Alli was a bit more expensive, Chalobah a bit of a gamble given his fitness and likely greenlit off the back of Holsgrove's at least initial lack of interest, and Ouma will have required more negotiation to sort the loan to buy deal out. Okonkwo was a result of Wrexham making a signing and Kaminski crossing into a point of no return. Then it's waiting for Palace to blink on their valuation of JRS and possibly luring Holsgrove over with a good start and more flowing football. Even TC's contract status has moved forward off the back of us being willing to sell but him not wanting to move and showing clear evidence to him that we actually will be playing him in his preferred position. It's not Football Manager where a player is coded to be willing to play for you or not, things are constantly changing and sometimes you have to hold your nerve to get the right players in. If people really weren't happy at the end of July with an entire month of the window left to go then they're insane, it's no different to storming off from the Derby game at half time and complaining that we're going to be relegated with results like that.wmcf123 said:
Any more clichés ? Jonesball ? Ultimately we’re all delighted at how well we are doing and if we sign JRS permanently , it’s been a good window , but I can understand why fans weren’t happy with our business.NabySarr said:
The amount of bedwetting on here earlier this summer, there’s definitely some humble pie being served alreadywmcf123 said:
Don’t think so. Evidence was that we were signing frees with injury records (who have started really well) . If we sign one of these two for decent fees, fair play to the board, but it’s not humble pie territory .CAFCsayer said:If we get Holsgrove aswell as JRS, there are gonna be a few people eating mountains of humble pieLearnto read. With one press of the enter key. We paid over £5m for Bent after we added the sell-on extra once we’d sold him.golfaddick said:
It will be undisclosed. So it could be £5m or £50m. Both will be a club record fee.Crispywood said:Interested to see if we describe it as a club record fee on the announcement.1 -
I long for a day I don’t read the word “Holsgrove”15

That's not part of the fee though, that's a separate future payment as a result of a new transaction. Bent might be the player who ended up being the one we spent the most money on with a sell on but he's not our highest transfer fee paidAddicksAddict said:

Good Twitter thread on Holsgrove, his strengths and weaknesses.1

Holsgrove is going to QPR, why are we still banging on about him?19

Weasel words, because the deal is done and we are already balls deep and can't get any closer.... pr'haps.RedRobin said:Jones went with the same line on JRS, likes the player but is a Palace player and we are no closer to that deal. Suspect it’s a red herring and he doesn’t ever give anything away especially with potential signings!Sounds like Ramsay is next to sign a new deal.0 -

I have heard that Ramsay has signed a new contract already.Emason32 said:New contract pending for Ramsay as per Jones quotes on Cawley Substack
I was told Lloydy signed months ago, TC extended before Derby at home even kicked off, and Ramsay has signed a deal already. The person who told me about Ramsay heard it from a very good source.
None of it has been wrong so far, have 0 reason to doubt the Ramsay rumour.
I feel very confident about Charlton Athletic at the moment, and have well and truly been humbled 😂
JRS signing would make it about an 8/10 window for me. If we signed Holsgrove (seems unlikely) looking at at least a 9.
Best position we have been in for as long as I can remember.Phew... Ramsay was the one I've been most worried aboutHavent loved two Full-Backs in Ramsay / Edwards since the combo of Solly / Wiggins4 -
Seriously people… why are we obsessing over holsgrove when Cawley has confirmed multiple times now that there isn’t another CM coming in… we’ve signed Ouma and Chalobah with Cov, Mwamba, JRC, Knibbs and Carey. That’s 7 CMs in various forms with only 3 starting spots. We aren’t signing him… let’s move on aye18

He's the new Hayden Mullins.1 -
Unless it’s signed, sealed and delivered this evening, I can’t imagine that the social media team will be starved for content tomorrow either.
If it’s done before the weekend, expect Thursday or early Friday announcement IMO.4 -
And with how long it's taking the club to get JRS done, I don't think there's enough time for Holsgrove to sign5
-
Estoril get 4k crowds without UK rip-off gate prices. No way is Holsgrove going for £3.5m let alone €3.5m. In the last year of his contract, he will be €1m tops.3
-
He will be smashed by the Kenyans when we play him.3

Very solid assessmentSwisdom said:I see Ouma as more of a box to box engine room guy than a sprayer of passes
i I see Holsgrove as an architect but who isn’t necessarily going to smash people in the air.Holsgrove can unlock the door in a tight game. Ouma can batter the door down in a tight game.
Coventry can recycle the ball, win it back and give it to someone who makes stuff happen and throw in the occasional nice pass.
Chalobah can be the wise old head when it’s a tight game and needs someone to take a game by the scruff of the neckwe would have options depending on what sort of game we are playing0 -

Ex CAFC Director of Performance Services (Will Abbott) is now the Performance Consultant for Estoril. So he’s either advising Holsgrove for or against I guess.10

Had longer left on his contract but even so didn’t West Ham pay €25m for Pablo from Gil Vicente who are a similar sized clubGisappointed said:Estoril get 4k crowds without UK rip-off gate prices. He’s 26 and not kicked a ball in England, let alone the champ. Forget stats, they only matter in the league we are playing. He may be great, shite or meh. Will be far better young lads on loans available from the prem (Cullen, Gallagher etc).6
