Gonna be a long one this year

Early days but don't think we're giving NJ enough credit for switching up how we play. We've gone from a defensive side, hoping to nick a goal and hold on, to one that takes it to the opposition...even West Ham away FFS!! This without spending a lot of money and showing faith in the youth who some would have bombed out of the club this summer. Long may it continue.21

Terrible time to be a fan who wanted Jones out twice and thought TC and Leaburn were shit. Sure there’s a few of them aboutcrookester said:Early days but don't think we're giving NJ enough credit for switching up how we play. No doubt we’ll have difficult moments this season, but what a start. Quietly had a fantastic window. The future is bright. Finally.6

Six points from six in the league is nice but if you can't beat Reading and Wimbledon pre-season then you have to go.
And Jones insistence on playing Campbell and Leaburn! Why?19 -
Doing what he said he would do. Evolving the squad and the manner in which we play. Early days , but if we get to 10 games with positive results could be a very good season.Well happy for him , he works hard but gets the results with far less budget than other teams.8

Why would NJ swap Charlton for a team eighteen places lower in the table?AberystwythAddick said:

In all seriousness, Scott Parker should get that job. No-one has a better record in the second tier than him.8
-
That's bollocks more cos Steve Bruce is on the list than Jones3
-
You'd imagine that there is absolutely no way he wont get Manager of the Month for August now9
-
No chance Jones would go to West Ham, it's the opposite of what he likes in a club and he's the opposite of what they like in a manager

I could see him fancying it - he dropped Luton for Southampton/Stoke pretty quickly, and it's a club with 60k crowds and parachute payments.sam3110 said:No chance Jones would go to West Ham, it's the opposite of what he likes in a club and he's the opposite of what they like in a manager
But I think he's only on that list because we're a London club who've made a decent start and it's lazy journalism - I dont think they'd go for him. Their fans would demand some perceived 'big name' or an ex-player - can absolutely see Parker happening.

Coupled with being an ex-player he's absolutely nailed on0 -
And TrueHammer knows this how ? It’s made up bollox.0

A pattern is emerging here.
23/24 improve our L1 defending, stayed up
24/25 improve our L1 attacking, promoted
25/26 improve our Championship defending, stayed up
26/27 improve our Championship attacking, ???
If we continue this trajectory we could be European champions within 4 years.27 -
Cant wait for the "Has he taken us as far as he can" when we lose 4-0 to Arsenal on the opening day next seasonScoham said:A pattern is emerging here.

So 2029/30 is merely making the knock out phase in the Champions League?Scoham said:A pattern is emerging here.

Two reasons I can see Jones staying at Charlton even if roles at "big" clubs become available.
1. He's been biten twice at Soton and Stoke where he wasn't allowed the time to implement his regime. At Charlton, and Luton, he's built teams in his image gradually over seasons and has had success. The board here stuck with him when it was going badly and he now seems to have their trust and backing. He may now realise the grass isn't always greener.
2. "Big" clubs wanting instant results to turn things around will look at his failures at Stoke and Soton and feel that having flopped twice he's not for them. He needs time to put his plans in place and few clubs are willing to give any manager that.

3) He isn’t very attractive proposition to many clubs. Doesn’t play the style of football clubs want, and plus his reputation, for many in the media, is still based on his sound bite comments from the experience at Southampton.Henry Irving said:Two reasons I can see Jones staying at Charlton even if roles at "big" clubs become available.

Hard to disagree with this but I have two caveats. I wonder how hard it would be for him if the Wales job came knocking ? Personally I don’t think the total control and daily hands on, Jones seems to need is suited to international management so that’s a good thing and secondly, if Cardiff eventually emerge from their ownership issues and start showing interest.Henry Irving said:Two reasons I can see Jones staying at Charlton even if roles at "big" clubs become available.

I genuinely believe NJ still sees us as his project. I don’t see anyway he leaves no matter who comes calling. He will be here until the “he has taken as as far as he can” time occurs in a couple of years2

Probably the one positive being the most hated manager in the EFL, other clubs fanbsses would put pressure on the board to look elsewhere6

I wonder if ourselves and Cardiff are in The Championship next season and their job comes up.ShootersHillGuru said:

I think if West Ham were to sack Nuno it'll either be for Parker or a big name3
-
To be honest the hate he gets from a certain section of our own fans is a bit much, witnessed 1st hand at spurs, fella behind me had some fucking disgusting things to say about him expecting me to agree, I didn’t, he then went on to say’ but if we keep doing well it’s fine. Fucking hypocrites.Crispywood said:Probably the one positive being the most hated manager in the EFL, other clubs fanbsses would put pressure on the board to look elsewhere3
