Nathaniel Chalobah signs a one year deal

Crispywood said:He was so good he actually managed to convince us Coventry was a quality midfielder as well
When Chalobah played in the 1st 4 matches he helped not only Coventry but all players around him as he can scan 360 degrees, shield the ball and pass to a high standard.
Conor is an all action midfielder but he is an erratic passer and when pushing forward against a skilled Cardiff side gave away so many fouls by running into opposition players.
Skipp and Coventry are both defensive midfielders (6's) and with Carey being an attacking midfielder (10)
the lack of a box to box(8) at this level is stark.
If anyone knows of a hands on medical healer can you put them in touch with CAFC because it's obvious what is the missing link and it's Nathaniel Chalobah who can pick the ball up deep from the defence as well as going on a run to the edge of the opposition box which is the quintessential role that we are missing.
I assume Holsgrove was on the radar though personally I knew little of his qualities or his weaknesses with his lack of a CV in English football.

He also said Koumetio going off at Spurs was "precautionary".Chunes said:

NJ said he wasn't injured.
Then it was a "tiny injury."
Then he said he won't be back after the international break.
We haven't seen him since.2 -

in the bargain bin. He’s free / cheap for a reason - and we will do well to get 10 games a season out of him.
So you don't believe we were ever going to pay around 5 million for Rak-Sakyi with a long contract and a decent wage?
Chalobah's 1 year contract reflected his injury CV over recent years. Nathaniel looks a class above but we need 20 games from him and that's looking optimistic.
Oh we were absolutely at the line and if he hadnt been juggling two agents at the same time maybe, but it was a close enough thing that one issue on a medical and it was too much.
Event with the JRS money (which ultimately didnt happen), its still a collective spend thats childs play nowadays in this league.2 -
any mention of him being back yet? He's the player I think we need most at the moment.8

Before the international break it was pretty clear that he was not one of the ones considered to be back when football started again.DoctorCharlton said:any mention of him being back yet? He's the player I think we need most at the moment.
I don't think we will be seeing him for a while to be honest.2 -
Louis Mendez doesn't seem to think he's back yet.2

Hopefully see him back by Bolton (H) if our top ITKer is correct in the match thread and there’s no setbacks etc.1

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume there will be numerous set backsCallumcafc said:Hopefully see him back by Bolton (H) if our top ITKer is correct in the match thread and there’s no setbacks etc.7 -

If I look at the Ouma and Chalobah signings, it’s clear we’ve been operating on a budget this summer and been shopping in the second hand store. That’s not a criticism of Chalobah’s abilities, but a reflection on his injury record and the fact he was an option for the financially screwed and basket case of a club Sheff Wed last season. There’s no way we’re going to get anywhere near the amount of appearances we need from him and as has been rightly pointed out, there could be setbacks and even if he does return in a few weeks, I’d be willing to put money on him being out again before Xmas. It might sound overly negative, but I don’t see how you can justifiably or confidently argue it will be any different
Add Ouma into the equation and it’s clear now there was little to no money to go into the team. We’ve done well with Koumetio, McNamara and Mesik. Grant is a good free, but we could end up having wasted a fee on Alli, I just don’t think he’s going to deliver
My worry is that if we’re dead set on 4-2-3-1, we’re essentially going with Cov and Skipp as nailed on starters every week. I think we’ve got a few problems until Jan, and even then, who do we bring in to help8 -

More likely off at half time because he’s injured again 😂gringo said:

Yeah but I reckon it was the trade offs we were making, ie, IF Chalobah can stay fit, Ouma MAY work out. The frustrating part is that there’s quite a few of our signings that haven’t or don’t look like working out. Apter, Tanto, Knibbs, all for fees. Is Alli going to fall into that bracket?ElfsborgAddick said:cabbles said:If I look at the Ouma and Chalobah signings, it’s clear we’ve been operating on a budget this summer and been shopping in the second hand store. I genuinely don’t know what we’ll do if start to go on a bad run this season. Would the owners even care to try and sort it out in Jan. I’m probably being overly pessimistic 9 games in, but just have a bad feeling we’ve got it horribly wrong this season1 -

The owners are possibly seeing that you lose less money in League 1 and the costs in the Championship are a shock to them.cabbles said:

Doesn't work like that though, otherwise you end up with a great first 11 but are one or two bad injuries from playing dregs or hoping that the kids are alright. The trick is trying to get the quality/quantity balance right, maybe we didn't do that but just getting in proven players who also have spotless injury records would be 1. Very expensive and 2. Leave us with a very shallow squad.ElfsborgAddick said:cabbles said:If I look at the Ouma and Chalobah signings, it’s clear we’ve been operating on a budget this summer and been shopping in the second hand store. His involvement should be limited, he shouldn't be playing back to back 90 minutes. Try and delay the next breakdown.5

"Very close" to being back according to NJ10
-
Our resident ITK said he should be back for the Bolton game.
That's 2 and a bit weeks away.

As others have said we are far and away a better team with him in the squad. The limiting factor being that we may be without him for more often than not.We need serious reinforcements in the middle come Jan. be that a permanent or a prem youngster that can provide the energy and creativity to move us up the pitch4

Can be seen with the group in the latest “Inside Training” video on YouTube doing fitness drills but I couldn’t see him in the passing or attacking drills5
