NJ getting sacked doesn't solve anything, we haven't got the players to play 'good football' at this level
People liking this, is the general consensus that we have got a load of incapable shit players?, surely we’ve seen most of them play well at some point to look at the bigger picture, tactics for one, confidence, our play just seems so stifled.

IMO I think every player at every level can have flashes of class. But true class is consistent. Unfortunately we're all over the shop.

The players are individuals and should know the basics of how to play football and score goals... is that unrealistic?

Just for arguments sake, if we sacked Jones and hired an absolute magician, who got the very most out of this squad of players, how high do you think they could finish? What do we think is the general consensus on this squads ability?

Even players like Hector played well at one point every player is capable of a good game.

    Midfield options
    skipp- Struggled at Leceister
Ouma- discipline issues + nothing promising
    Mwamba- 19 years old
    Chalobah- Can’t stay fit
    JRC- wasn’t wanted at Blackburn
Coventry- only us and Sheffield Wednesday interested when he was available
Carey- Blackpool fans said he is massively inconsistent

    Forward Line
    apter- out for season
grant- West Brom fans wanted him out
Alli- Called crap by Pompey and Luton
Leaburn- Highest level he’s played at
    Godden- Can’t stay fit
    Nkeng- 19
    Mbick- 19

Is the team better what than they are producing absolutely but Kelman and Knibbs is the only players i can confidently look at like TC last season and think they have much better ability than what theyre displaying under Jones.

They are Jones signings and you can 100% hold him and the recruitment team responsible but sacking him, their is a very low ceiling for the quality this team can produce

If they came out and sacked him, which I don’t think they will purely because they won’t want to pay for it, as I think they are bailing out and given up on us, NJ would probably say first and foremost how he wasn’t backed this season and he got all he could through the door. Can’t help thinking we don’t know the full story or we’ve been spun plenty of bullshit. NJ just doesn’t seem to have the trust in a lot of squad to play forward attacking football or he just can’t coach a side to do so?, not sure which?🤷🏻‍♂️

With a net spend of just 1.5m this summer what exactly did people expect we were going to get? That sort of spending gets you one thing, a relegation battle. Yes NJ has made mistakes and sometimes team selection and tactics baffle me but he’s operating with what he has, a poor unbalanced squad.

Oh, and basically that 1.5m spend was on Alli, who is poor. How long before Nkeng gets a look in?

Seeing a lot of Jones out. Who do people think we can attract that’s a better manager than Jones? Only suggestion I’ve seen is Scott Parker which is laughable

We are not an attractive proposition, we have one of the worst squads and lowest budgets in the league. Do you really think there’s any managers out there that would be better and actually want to join?
Still waiting for a Jones outer to actually name a realistic replacement that’s better…

Who would you suggest?  There has to be one that fits the bill, you clearly know your football.

Not sure many want Jones to go, but people are frustrated because this is a strong squad, just feels like being aloud to go and play. Also they don’t know if they are attacking or defensive at the moment. Caught in between. It is a worry at the moment.. Watford and Burnley are poor, low in confidence and we got 1 point and never really had a go at them. If we go at them, get an early goal it could been a few goals and we could have kicked on.
He needs to get this low budget thing out of his head and believe in the players
But this isn’t a strong squad. Another season where we have one of the worst midfields in the league and our strikers wouldn’t start for any other team in the league.

Our ownership stumbled upon a miracle worker in Jones. He can’t continue to perform when he doesn’t get backed.

  • A good friend of mine (who used to be Jude Bellingham's agent before his move to Real Madrid) is best mates with an ageing goalkeeper we tried to sign at the start of our League One promotion season (not Begovic). I asked him at the time why said goalkeeper didn't sign, his answer was that the guy had a phone call with NJ, and came away thinking he was a bit of an "idiot".

At the time (with my rose tinted glasses on), I wondered if the player was just looking for a paycheck, and wasn't willing to roll up his sleeves, so took it as a positive. I'm starting to think the player might have been right. This whole anti-football/try to nick a win culture probably has a ceiling, and I would suggest that ceiling is League One. Maybe it's the club that has to evolve, not the manager.

I don't believe this squad is as bad as some are making out.  We have seen at times there are some 'players' there. To me, it's down to how they are being told to play. And they, like us, know it's not working.
    That's on Jones.

Surely he didn’t choose to spend £20k per week on Skipp , although the alleged last spend of £20k a week was on Kaminski so maybe but no we’re skint and we didn’t spend or waste any money on Ahadme, Olaofe , Apter, Alli, Kelman, Knibbs , JRC .

Team with one of the lowest budgets in the league play like team with one of the lowest budgets in the league.

Not saying Jones tactics or management are helping, but who seriously thinks anyone is going to really do any better with what we have?
Be hard pushed for anyone to do any worse as well

Based on what? We could be bottom of the table with no wins and -12 goal difference.

Again not defending Jones but we have to face up to the reality that our squad, for this level, is so so poor.

Thats what the budget we have has given us.

I honestly don’t see anyone coming in and being able to change that.
For someone who is not defending him. You are doing a great job of defending him. Jones out. But it is not going to happen.
I’m not defending him, I wouldn’t care if they sacked him tonight.

But I’ve also got the ability to look past the person and realise that our issues are far deeper than him.

Shame others just seem to kid themselves that everything would all of a sudden be different/better.

The problem is that he’s inherently unlikeable , the football is dire and therefore when the results go too, there’s less goodwill than there might otherwise be for someone that took us up and kept us there .  Nobody would do a lot better than he’s doing with a midfield that can neither run nor pass

Based on the way the players who joined for sizeable fees and long term contracts at the start of 25/26, were  not given a fair run last season and/or were quickly dispensed with by Jones, I had major concerns at the end of last season about leaving Jones in position this summer to build again. This concern was also based on our form from mid november onwards last season which would have seen us comfortably relegated.

I also dislike Jones and find some of his antics on the touchline an embarassment to our club. He wastes too much time on negative energy, poking the bear by engaging with opposition fans, and both his tactics and the way he stormed off straight off down the tunnel after we narrowly beat 9 man Sheff utd at home in January, left me the most flat I'd ever felt after a win in 43 years of supporting our great club.

I also think the way our club captain was treated in the summer was a disgrace. Whilst he was a player with limited technical ability his return to the team after the spineless display at millwall away last season helped steady the ship and he was an important factor in our survival. I also agree with some other posters above that Doc's leadership skills and the negative impact on team morale from his badly handled departure should not be under estimated. Have we even had a new club captain / vice captain formally announced?

It's also now 48 points from our last 46 league games and that would just have seen us stay up by 1 point last season. That's not good enough from a manager who has built a managerial reputation solely on significantly over achieving with the resources at his disposal at Luton. I fail to see what else he brings to the table based on the other appointments on his CV and the style of football I've witnessed over the past 2.5 years.

All that said, I actually think Jones should be given more time! He's overseen this so called evolution this summer so let's give him another month to sort out this current mess, and if things havent changed for the better by mid to late november we seriously need to be looking at a change. The new manager then has December to look at what he has and needs in January.

His record of bringing in players is terrible. Oloafe, Apter, Hernandez, Rousillon, Alli, Ahadme, Kaminski, Skipp, Ouma, Rankin-Costello, I could go on. There have been a few good ones like Koumetio, Mc Namara. But an awful lot of money has been wasted. Do the owners trust him to spend anymore of their money?

If results and performances continue as they are then I assume at some stage NJ has to go. We can't afford to get relegated and ultimately we'd have to take a chance on another manager.

Doing nothing would not be an option? Hopefully we will start getting results - nobody is expecting attractive football.

Don't be silly. A manager can only prepare the team so much, once they're on the pitch, it's up to them to do what they've been training their whole lives for.

I am a fan of Jones and would consider myself to be an optimistic and patient fan. I am not calling for Jones to go or anything like that, but something has to change.

This outfit bears no resemblance to the team that Jones steered to promotion two years ago. There are caveats and reasons why, primarily the fact we are playing up a division and he was not backed in the transfer market.

But we are not a team that does the things Jones harps on about. We are not front footed and aggressive. We do not do the basics right; we give away so many chances in transition every week - basic set up errors. Our defensive solidity masked our creative limitations but we’ve now lost that too.

The squad is crying out for some creativity and composure on the ball. Koumetio showed it yesterday, as did Mwamba for ten minutes but we are just so predictable and easy to play against. We take no risks in our build up play, and create so few attacking chances.

At the moment we are a soft touch. The team that got promoted gave the opposition a tough game, no matter what: out ran teams, out worked teams and fought for everything.

Yesterday we let a team that is on its knees win so many first contacts, pick up the majority of the scraps and second balls, and allowed them to run straight through the middle of us on multiple occasions. Something Jones also hates.

This is not a Nathan Jones team and it’s a team that is hard to support at the moment. I will continue to support it, and Jones. I didn’t expect an easy season. But I do expect a bit more than this.

Problem is if any player decides to do something NJ hasn’t asked them to do he ditches them, how are players thinking for themselves with clarity?. Whatever way you look at it ultimately NJ will carry the can.

But in that time he’s kept us up, got us promoted and kept us up in the Championship so it has obviously worked to a much greater extent than it hasn’t. I do agree that our recruitment since getting promoted has been way off, but in relative terms we are spending absolute peanuts

I'm not going to argue his recruitment has been fantastic but that's a very selective list. I don't have the time to go through all the transfers but off the top of my head all the below players have been good signings/look like they'll be classed as good signings over time. That's more than a few

Edwards, Koumetio, Doc, Mesík, Bell, Berry, Godden, Small, McNamara, Chalobah, Coady, Fevrier, Dykes, Clarke, Dykes, Grant, Bree, Carey

We mustn't forget the likes of Burke, Potts, Hylton, Campbell to name a few (of his past colleagues) who didnt or havent pulled up any trees. Berry was limited in his success. Let alone the dismal performace at Watford yesterday the football has mainly been dire uner Jones and whilst a goal lifts the spirits our play and his tatics are poor. The game against QPR was a defining point for me in less than 30% possesion at home yet Jones majored on the goal not given. Could that have changed the game its doubtful but we can never know. However one thing for certain if we go a goal up rarely do we go for a second and just sit back (Jones proven tatic). For me basic control of the ball and anticipation is missing, movement off the ball at throw ons typically (all other teams much better at this part). NJ comes out with the same old speal as well game after game. Its time for him to go !!

Nathan Jones is what he is. For good and for bad but his post match comments yesterday irritated me. Importantly, I feared us going defensive from the off against Watford which in this game above all others was only going to help build their confidence. Then Jones was critical of the players or at least a lot of them but if he wasn't happy or didn't instruct them to play in this cautious way, surely he could have made early subs to get the message accross.

On the same tack. We may not have a wealth of options but Skipp and Coventry together doesn't work. They just chase around the midfield without pattern or plan. It has been obvious for a while that playing in the position he does, Grant offers very little to the side. Maybe a little more at home than away. These are things that should have been addressed a few games ago.

I am not advocating sacking him. I think he has enough credit in the bank but he has to work out a solution to these issues that are long standing.

I know recent performances haven't been good enough and results have been shocking but he has done such a good job as manager since joining that I am nowhere near wanting him replaced.

He kept us up, got us promoted, kept us up again and we're outside the relegation places currently, all whilst having a relatively small budget. What else is he supposed to do?

    Keep the faith.
