No news or update probably = surgery I guess?

    Seems our style of communication.
Surely gets asked in Jones pre-match presser, probably would have gotten an update if the Reading game wasn’t behind closed doors

He’d still be vague and say something like “ he’s a week closer “ . Our manager is consistent I’d give him that.

I heard it could be 2 to 3 months
That's the minimum for a Charlton injury. Just assume that any player we have out is likely to be missing for 2-3 months and if they come back sooner it's a bonus.

Because of the extended international break we don't play a game from 19 Sept - 10 Oct so if he is out for that long then i'd guess he will be targeting a return for the Bristol City game on 10 October.

I'd expect that clubs like us who don't have a lot of players away will probably be playing 1-2 friendlies behind closed doors in that 3 week period to keep players match fitness up and to help bring injured players back.

Really feel for him, as it looks like he spent the off-season training in Marbella and Essex.

If it is thought he's not ready until October we need to get in a loan to cover this.
What we have atm is not good enough.

Kelman started 19 of 33 games last season and managed 75 mins in only 4 games wasn’t exactly rated highly by Jones or our star player.

also the assumption what we have is not good enough.
    1) our forwards had no service last year
    2) Mbick/Godden we haven’t seen at this level properly so how do we know.
    3) last season was Leaburn’s first full season of staying fit and playing championship level ok that may not be a good enough reason but it’s still an argument opposed to a certainty.

how about we actually give them a chance opposed to hitting the panic button cause Kelman’s missing what 2 months of the season we don’t even have squad space to bring in another striker unless we just decide to release Godden or Leaburn.

1/Agreed so we need to change our pattern of play.
2/Have a look at Godden's record at Coventry, it would do for us for in probably his last season before he retires.
3/Sadly, I think Leaburn is not the same player after his injury at Welling and he is not the answer.
Whatever permutations of two forwards I do not see 20 goals between them.
Without all this, we are left with needing a change in formation, plus hoping we can get 20 goals from two strikers to give us a fighting chance of staying up.
PS, To spend all that dough on a geezer who done well for one season in the third division is always open to debate.

Strikers are not really the issue, it's the service (or lack of it) that they get.
  • Surprised he’s set to be out for so long tbh. What’s the injury? Does it stop him training on the grass?

Dislocated shoulder. He’ll probably still be running etc. but if recovery isn’t done right for it, it can happen again.

It hurts so much to run with a dislocated shoulder - even in healing.

Looks like he is back with the group in the training video posted on socials. In kit and leaning on his shoulder happily enough.

Looked like he was doing fitness stuff with the group but not taking part in stuff with footballs, doing that with Edwards instead. With Miles, Godden and Mbick fit we don't need to rush him back

There was nothing stopping him training in the first place it’s just the contact stuff he’s not allowed to do.

Worryingly ineffective off the bench today

Sniffing round the box for scraps from our uninventive team , he was unlucky when the keeper god his fat arse on that chance .
I’m no fan of his but I’d have expected him to have checked his run and done better than Grants pathetic attempt
  • I never understand what supporters see in Kelman. I can see he’s a good finisher but he’s totally anonymous game after game. For all his faults Leaburn causes defences some problems (he needs a rest). Kelman might as well not be on the pitch the way we play.

Thats not actually a huge slight on Kelman, we’re just not set up to play to his strengths. He may well be a good Championship striker I just don’t understand how many times we have to watch him have zero impact on a game under NJ before people realise his presence on the pitch is not going to turn us into a genuine threat.

Yet made the keeper make two saves. Leaburn didn't get his effort on target.

He looked pretty dangerous imo. Probably put himself in line for a start on Saturday

Got the ball in a great a position to put TC through and gives such a bad pass that TC ends up fouling their man trying to win it back.

Then gets put through on goal, the sort of ball a striker cries out for, and he miscontrols and loses it.

Ball drops to him 6 yards out and he blasts it straight at the keeper.

He was supposed to be Godden's replacement but he absolutely nowhere near his level. Spent so much of last season defending him but he is not championship quality.

Kelman has to start next week made a difference when he came on so unlucky with the near post chance somehow hit the keeper on the inner thigh and come out … but always running and chasing defenders down now deserves a run the side which all strikers need ..

With all the dough we spent on him we need to play to his strengths, he's not had a consistent run.

He has had one season of goals in League 1, other than that nothing to speak of.

Your second paragraph nails it all ends up.

I Kelman and Leaburn to me is a dream pairing; however, that is never going to happen because our midfield is so poor.So frustrating.

Not having Kelman as a championship striker one bit

If he played as many minutes as Leaburn has this season, he would at least have netted by now
  • He's our only fit goalscorer  - needs to feature as much as possible
