Forget relegation for a second, is top half in our reach?

Certainly hope so , I put a bet on during pre season for us, Brum and Ipswich to finish in the top half.

When we’re mathematically safe I’ll be happy. Until that points total is achieved I’m still worried. No amount of other teams need to do this or we need to fail to do that will change that for me.
Ditto mate....things can change. My Oxford supporting mate the other day, said they have no chance of getting 30 points when they had 28 on the board, and they cant score goals. They have 6 in the last 3 games.
    They have 9 mate.
Oxford are now 3rd in the form table, we’re 11th. In fact for the first time in a long time no team in the bottom three are in the bottom three of the form table (Sheff Wed of course excluded and they are not even bottom). The relegation threatened sides are finally starting to wake up.
  • Aiming for 74 points should do it…

Although I’m just starting to believe we’re going to be alright, I think that Sheffield Wednesday apart of course, the other two relegation places will not be sorted out until the very end. Oxford have seen there’s hope and are responding and Leicester have some match winners in their team. West Brom and Blackburn are looking in serious trouble and Albion in particular having lost probably their best player look the most in jeopardy of the two. I don’t see either of QPR or Pompey getting sucked further down so for me it’s two of West Brom, Blackburn or Oxford.

The form table from the past 10 games is very interesting.

Blackburns run in is awful - certainly think them and West Brom are the favourites to go down now.

Blackburn are in big trouble if they do go down, no investment from the owners so they’ll be stuck there for a while. Could easily turn into another Bolton

Blackburn and WBA to go for me. Even if Pompey fans are massively concerned about them dropping I think they've got enough in the locker that they'll be fine.

If Blackburn go I don't expect them to bounce back.

    Form table last 10

I reckon Oxford might pull away from the drop.

We're safe based on this last 10 form. >>> 1.5 points per game in the last 10 games >>> If the same moving forward we'll get another 13.5 points taking us to 60.5. Let's call it 61 with an extra half point for being the best club on earth.

Hoping it’s West Brom and Blackburn who go down. If next season we find ourselves in a similar position I’d much prefer an Oxford in the division than a West Brom and Blackburn who get it together.
Don’t think we will be in a relegation scrap but 2nd season syndrome is a big thing at championship level.

Based on a combination of the current form of opponents and league position of opponents,  it looks like Blackburn has the hardest schedule, followed by west Brom.   Oxford and Portsmouth have pretty similar remaining strength of schedule and Leicester has the easiest.  I think it is almost a guarantee that west brom goes down and will come down to the end between Oxford and Blackburn

Opta now rate our chances of relegation at 0.34%, roughly 300/1 against!

QPR are 66/1, there must have an easier run in, as they are below us on goal diffenece.

The odds probably reflect the money that’s being placed. Reality hasn’t reached punters just yet.

It’s why players like Coady and Dykes are very important. Experienced and can help out the less experienced players.

Whenever i predict a team to get relegated, they go on a good run.

Hopefully, if I reverse it and predict who goes up, they will hit bad form.  Millwall to win the league

Post Wrexham and before these last two wins, some were saying we’d only won three in 22 etc. and we needed to improve to stay up.

    On the other hand…

If we were to remove November’s five game losing streak from our season, we would have 47 points from 32 games right now.

That’s almost 1.5 ppg and is sometimes good enough for top six in this league.

In reality you can’t just do that and the results are what they are and we deserve to be in exactly the position we’re in. Just thought it was a perspective worth offering.

Looking at games left I can see Leicester and Portsmouth pulling away from trouble. I think it’s 2 from West Brom, Oxford and Blackburn.
I agree and I think neither West Brom or Blackburn will reach 47 but we still need to get to 50/51 to be safe.

Until we hit 60 points, or it becomes mathematically impossible for 3 teams to catch us because they’ve run out of games to play then we can’t rule out getting dragged in. And if we can get to 60 points quick enough then we need to keep going and try and see how many we can get by the end of the season and where we end up in the table. How we finish will have a bearing on what we do and how we are able to prepare for next season in a lot of ways.

I think 60 is a bit ambitious.  I reckon another 10/11 points for us

That gives us 51 points. With 9 games to go there are 27 points up for grabs for the teams below us (30 for Pompey) and they would need to win a maximum of 4 games and draw 1 to catch us. You can’t rule out any team below us doing that (even Sheff Wednesday though it wouldn’t be enough to catch us even if they won all 9).

Probably being overly cautious with Blackburns run in but I still feel like 3 wins to be absolutely safe
