It's huge that we managed to win one of the QPR and Stoke games because that sets us up nicely to hopefully win our must not lose games. We've got Pompey at home, West Brom, Oxford and Wendies away. We can't afford to lose any of those but I'd be targeting them all as our most important 3 points. We need another 4 wins so if we can get those we'll have hit our win target in the best possible way. Beating Pompey at home is a really big one for us as the rest of our home games are against some pretty challenging teams. I'd hope that by April though at least one of Preston, Bristol City or Hull will have given up on life so if we still need to pick up 3 points we'll be right up for it and they might roll over for us. If we can get another 6 or 7 points this month we will be looking very, very good for staying up

Now we have balance back in the team and hopefully certain players stay fit, I’d be more inclined to say any team coming to the valley has a hard game upcoming.
  • In an ideal world, we'll be looking at Portsmouth, Oxford, Sheff Wed and West Brom as the games to get those wins - But with three of them away, we equally need to be a bit realistic ourselves - Maybe even Birmingham and Norwich at home, given how strong we are at the Valley, with Birmingham pretty weak on the road
Think the only game that I'd see as a completely free hit, is Middlesbrough away as they're flying

Bad result tonight but brush yourself off and get ready to go again at the weekend.

4 wins and a draw or 3 wins and four draws needed from the last 14.

Oh god, does that mean we have to put up with at least 7-9 defeats on here!!

Can't lie I'm still a bit nervous after tonights " display"especially with Saturday being Saints too. Just feels like we're rather Jeykll and Hyde and could still need something from the last couple. I hope I'm completely and utterly wrong and getting something away at Watford in early April secures us.

7 points from our last 4

10 points from our last 7

12 points from our last 9

16 points from our last 13

We are doing enough to stay above the drop, despite the fairly frequent disappointing results mixed in.

11-13 points needed from the remaining 14.

  • 4 points from 3 very winnable home games is a disappointing return but the win at Leicester definitely softened that blow. We're doing just enough to stay ahead of the PPG required to stay up which is all that matters.

I’ll be shocked if we need 52 points. Also have Sheffield Wednesday to play which is the easiest game of the season

Charlton love to delight us with differing forms of pain. A few weeks ago was the pain of humiliation after playing appallingly and getting battered by our local rivals. Last night they served up the pain of what may be. Win that match and, whilst safety wouldn’t be guaranteed, we’d be able to breathe a lot easier and it would take a monumental collapse to end up relegated. Imagine enjoying those last two and a bit months of the season not constantly worried about Amari’i Bell’s fitness or whether Jones would lose his mind and play someone wholly unsuited as left back. But no, we need those hopes and dreams dashed by another appalling display and now we are right back in it.

Tough run coming up, see few points coming from those, but then again I didn’t think we’d get anything from Leicester and Stoke and thought we’d beat QPR & Portsmouth!

The fact is we're going to be good some matches and crap in others. We'll lose some matches that we're good in and steal points in ones we're not. People can't be having this total whiplash every time we have  setback or a success. It was only the last time we were in the league that we were 30 seconds away from survival on the final day. 4 wins from 14 games, that's the target. Remain calm.

Lost their last 10, scoring only once. 0 home league wins all season.

If we can't win there, we deserve everything we get.

Yet apart from Swansea, they still only lose by 1 or 2-goals...
Dont get me wrong, I agree with your second line, but its still a very dangerous attitude to have

    One for the superstitious.

That clown Leigh Doughty officiated over what many say was the start of our last demise,Wrexham away!
  • Looking at the remaining games I’m not sure where our points come from. There of course likely candidates but it’s not a given.

I know we will probably pick up a couple of points in places we don’t expect but the run in to the end of the season is truly awful

Realistically we probably need another 3 wins and 3 draws from our remaining 14 matches which would put us on 51 points. That means we could lose another 8 games and still stay up which highlights what a good position we are actually in despite us not playing well. When you consider we still play Oxford and Wednesday in that 14 you have to say if we arent good enough to achieve what we need from here there then we well and truly dont deserve to stay up

Our record against the 14 teams left.
    P14 W5 D4 L5 that’s some encouragement at least.

Granted 2 wins and 1 draw came with last second goals

We see it time and again.... but I hazard a guess this will also not age well.

    Yep......that does it.

You do know they took the lead against Millwall. You don't need me to tell you what happens when we go 1-0 down.

To be totally honest, and I don’t mean this as a dig, just pointing out to give some perspective, they gave us a much tougher game than Charlton did a few weeks earlier.

People said exactly the same after Millwall and we then took 7 points from the next 3 games.

Our run in is not 'truly awful'. We play West brom, Oxford, Sheff Weds so that's 3 of the bottom 4.

Also it's pretty tough to predict anything in this league. We've picked up points in games against 5 of the current top 6. We're the only team to win at Ipswich, but then we go and lose home and away to Portsmouth who we typically usually do well against.

The 4 obvious games for a normal team to target for the ideal 4 wins were Portsmouth, West Brom, Oxford and Sheff Weds. We've binned off the Portsmouth game yet again so that's out but we do tend to win strange games that we shouldn't really. We're not as impregnable at home as we'd like but we do need to look at those three away games as more than just must not lose if we're going to get enough points. The landscape will change as we go as well; the closer we get to the end of the season the more there's a chance that teams like Watford, Bristol City and Preston might have dropped off from the Play-off hunt and lost interest, or that Swansea will have got enough points to care a lot less than we do on the final day. We really need to win at Hillsborough to make sure we've got those free 3 points everyone else has been getting but we absolutely cannot lose at West Brom or Oxford. After that we need to steal another 2 or 3 wins from anywhere else and we should be fine.

Since December we've done worse against the bottom sides than the others.

Lost twice to Pompey, one time having seemingly grabbed a point from nowhere only to concede 30 secs later. Worse still we were 2 up at Blackburn to then only get a point. We went to Norwich who hadn't kept a clean sheet for 20 matches & lost 1-0 (with a performance about as abysmal as that against Millwall).

The only win was against 10 men Leicester & had to rely on them missing a penalty to grab all 3 points.

Only downside is those three games are away, and our Away Form is what has let us down this season.
I wouldn't instantly expect nine points from those games, I'd be happy with five
