Not buying it that the agent caused the deal to collapse. If JRS really wanted to sign, there’s nothing his agent could do about it. There’s something else at play is my guess.
If your legal representative advised you not to do something would you just ignore them?
Are you saying our legal advisors advised us not to do it?
No, I’m saying JRS’s (his agent) did
We pulled the plug , not them.
It reads like we pulled the plug because his agent was playing games though, we wouldn’t pull it for no reason

Plenty of other RW options out there if JRS/his agent are playing silly buggers. Fair play to the club for telling them to do one.

Christ, so on Woeful Wednesday we:

    - got thrashed in a London derby
    - had two players seriously injured
    - had one of the most exciting transfers we’ve made in a decade collapse

I’ll take a punt and say his agent isn’t legally representing him.
JRS was in the building. I doubt he’d have been in the building without the financial details already having been agreed. It’s not the 80’s where they would have been in an office at the training ground thrashing out a deal.

Think Henners is probably on the right track , the FA have got a lot more strict on agents and the club can't be messing around with unlicenced agents or anything like that. Burton are under investigation for a lot of dodgy dealings with an agent when they signed 20+ players the other summer.

    Agents are fucking scum

whole thing is an absolute farce
Not aimed at you specifically but think we need to calm down. It’s all part of a ‘game’ they play. Next we will be linked with x & y even if it’s not true to put pressure on the agent. It’s naive to think it doesn’t happen. It isn’t a farce it’s just par for the course. It’ll either get sorted or it won’t. Either way we will never truly know what happened.

Nope - it’s Robertson Sakyi at 1Seven Sports
Are you saying this is now JRS's agent?

    So, presumably a relative.

    More wild speculation from me.

There is an ongoing dispute between his old and new agents

    Or

    The new agent isn't registered

    Or

The new agent is asking more than we are willing to pay?
  • I don’t know how genuine this is but it says JRS , as of June , had no agency representation.

Perhaps it’s his family who represents him ?

    AI says the same .
    His agent could be Ronnie?

As I said earlier, players not clubs should pay agents.
FIFA are trying to change the rules but clubs all over Europe have opposed their proposed rules so it's all in chaos and dispute.  Has been for a few years.

I've met numerous agents and not liked a single one of them.  I qualified as one a couple of years ago but I'm just not a wanker about it and prefer players to be comfortable and settled as that's when you'll get the best out of them.  Sadly the vast majority of players I spoke to and dealt with are completely unrealistic about the real world and just leave it to their agent.  Also sadly the vast majority of clubs also take the piss with their demands.  So players rarely get the best deal FOR THEM its usually the best for the agent or the club.

I'd say the JRS deal might not be dead completely and we are just saying "It's all agreed with the exception of the agent presumably moving the goalposts" our pulling out is probably an ultimatum to show we won't be taken for a ride.

Not sure who Jes' agent is now as it changed since his last contract - Not insurmountable and Jon Fortune's Two Touch agency might swoop in and save the day as the club seem to like working with him and he has his foot firmly inside the door at the club
Wouldn’t be the first time Fortune solved a problem involving Palace. Time for him to step up again.
  • We need a center back? Step forward Alex Davey from Chelsea.

Obviously I know zero about JRS and his ability to stand up to his agent but I would guess a lot of agents are very good at manipulating and dominating young players on the business side of things. It’s an industry of vultures and I would imagine most of them are very clever at swaying their players into what benefits them the most. I remember years ago watching a prank on Rooney and he was at a dog rescue centre and they were trying to get him to donate and the first thing he said was I’ll have to call my agent.

Mad Rooney story. I read somewhere that he didn’t know how to pay a bill (guessing online) as his agent does all that for him.

JRS: my next choice of agent will be crucial

TC: everyone who wants a good agent will get one

It would be typical Charlton that after this he somehow still signs but then is absolute shite
Or gets injured 20mins into his 2nd debut
  • OK, wild uninformed speculation here but could the club be trying to pressurise JRS and/or his agent by letting this news get out?
Yes, thank God @TheNotoriousBWP made it public and piled on the pressure.

If it was down to the rest of you substack subscribers, this news would never have got out and we’d end up with Nathan Redmond. 🙂

More fool us then for not establishing this at the get go and JRS for having an agent who ain’t licensed. Agents should be DBS checked or equivalent of.

Silly me, there was I foolishly thinking that agents were EMPLOYED to assist a players moves and financials. Too naive of me maybe?.

It’s all going to be ok.
I’ve offered my services to JRS, as his new agent.

I’ll also sell Apter, Burke, Kanu and that goalkeeper bloke for a combined saveloy meal deal for the whole West Stand.

Thanks! I’m glad my intended plans haven’t gone  completely unnoticed. One slight catch is that I am actually Rak Sakyi’s agent, and I require massive fees for my services so I will unfortunately be demanding £10 from everyone that views my posts, just as I’ve gone through all the effort of reading and then copy and pasting this news for everyone to see!
  • Don't really like Jones coming out saying the we've had to 'change our entire transfer outlook' when the deal for JRS was off before the Tottenham game even kicked off according to Cawley.
What don't you like about that? It's almost certainly the truth.

I highly doubt we went into the Spurs game thinking we need to sign defensive reinforcements. We do now.

Agent getting news out there that JRS is available? Wrongly claiming it’s related to our defensive injuries, that sounds a lot better than the agent is the problem.

  • Hold on to your butts. The journey between now and 11pm next Tuesday is gonna be a wild one folks

Fee dropping too. Was £4m+ according to The Athletic (which would have come from Palace)

It feels like a negotiation to me, I wouldn't rule it out but I imagine we are actively looking at other targets too.

Its on ! its off !

I still think we will sign JRS but can see it being a late deal. Something to keep the interest going up to the close of the window lol
