What I didn't get was that substitution of Crouch for Barry:
1. Barry was one player who was doing his job OK
2. We were awful and should at that point have settled for a draw. Instead we risked everything in a match that clearly was not going our way. Why risk everything when there are just 10 minutes to go when we have 90 minutes to do it next week. This made no sense to me because a goal conceded would really have finished it. Against Slovenia I would understand such a substitution but not tonight.
Again, we are soooooo lucky that USA had that perfectly good goal disallowed.
[cite]Posted By: Sussex_Addick[/cite]So France, Spain and Germany have all lost whilst the mighty England remain unbeaten! Keep the faith! Rule Britannia!
;-)
How much have you drunk tonight? ;-)
Not as much as I will if we play like that against Slovenia :-(. If that happens I'll give up on rationality and join the whingers in frothing at the mouth about every aspect of this England side.
apparently a fan got into the england dressing after the game ... the fa putting in a complaint to fifa but they don't know yet who the fan supported/booed
I am 52 years old and since the last great england side of 1970 we have offered nothing in europe or the world. Denmark, Sweden and Poland have had better records then us since 1966, one semi-final in 1990 in the world cup and one semi-final in euro 96 at home when we actually only won two out of five games properly and one of those was against the Swets.
Still people on here think we produce good enough footballers, where is the evidence????

why, we would have still needed to win?[/quote]
Sorry, I was getting confused. What is now in our hands is finishing 1st. If USA had won then this would have been out of our hands. There. I think I'm right about that.

the fan confronted david beckham ffs ... cos it's all his fault .... weirdos everywhere
[quote][cite]Posted By: Harry Gregory[/cite]Beckhams only crime is that he has been just as useless in the past in major competions as this lot, bless him[/quote]
Through two matches England have played like a collection of individuals, rather than as a real team.
England have excellent players when played to their strengths and surrounded by foreigners in the Premier League. Try and take those pieces out of their PL clubs and piece them together into one team, their weaknesses all become exposed.
Turning them into a team is the reason why the FA brought in Capello and are paying him so much.
Doesn't look like money well spent at the moment.
England would have at least two points at this point if Curbs, Redknapp, Pearce etc. were the manager.
Let's see what Capello can conjure against Slovenia, who will only need a draw to go through. That may work in England's favour.
We'll see.

Unfortunately AA they did not even play as well as a collection of individuals.
Can someone tell me if Frank Lampard has EVER had a decent game in an England shirt? Can anyone remember one? I cant. Abysmal. No other word for that performance tonight.
Have just cancelled my planned Wednesday afternoon off. Cant bear to watch another 90 minutes of that rubbish.

He played well at Euro 2004, but hasn't done not much since then.
3-5-2 for me next time. Won't happen though. I genuinely think Capello has no idea what to do next.
I'm probably the only one on here who can be blaise about this. As jimmymelrose will testify I've never been bothered with England. I'd rather Charlton scored one goal in a 7-1 defeat than England win the World Cup. Ever since I've been born they have disappointed time after time in the WC and the Euros. I'm surprised that anyone get's surprised by it anymore. I'm even more surprised that any England fan enters these tournaments thinking we'll do well, this is the year etc etc. Believe me if you accept we are crap and are never going to win anything then you'll never feel fed-up and so let down.
[cite]Posted By: rhinosvalley[/cite]I tell you something about Beckham - well first of all we wouldnt have been in a World Cup/ Euro Chamionship if it was not his most one sided player performance at Old Trafford against Greece....
if he was out there tonight I bet he would at least to the very end would have fought, battled, and given everything wearing that shirt - while he is on the sidelines - I rather have TEN of him on that pitch rather than those players tonight......Say what you say about Beckham, his game, his fitness, and his marketing.whatever...But at least I know when he goes out there he is PRIDE to play for his country, proud to PLAY for his country and work for his teammates...Tell me who out their tonight was playing for their teamate, their colleagues....their country....And Ronneys epsidoe at the end sums up today what a modern footballer is all about........
Quite franckly tonight give me Beckham ANY DAY of the week - cos at least I know I will get 110% dedication and localty and effort out of him......these players need to take a look at him...and some fans.....
Hope Im not the only one thinking like this..........
Rooney used to be the exception in that he would perform for both his club and country and act professionally to get the job done. Now he's just like the rest of them. You get the feeling they think they're doing the country a favour by playing for Engalnd rather than playing with some purpose and passion. There's so many players I would have included in the World Cup squad instead of some of the wasters who are out there.

Am I the only one who thinks there's more to football than a neat little tick box labelled 'passion'? So Rooney used to try but now doesn't, and his performance has followed in a nice little correlation?
Could it not for reasons like his ankle injury? Or the fact he missed a lot of the end of the premiership season and is hence probably rusty? It would seem you're genuinely suggesting that he could be bothered in the routine qualifying games where he scored so many goals, but now can't be bothered on one of the biggest stages he'll play on in his career.

I haven't whittled Englands entire performance down to passion. It was just one point. You've completely missed my point.

'Whine Booney' ....??
we would still have had to beat slovenia to get thru if that goal had gone in
Yes but it's now in our hands.
If USA had won then it we would also be relying on the other result.

Live from west London.
you are joking right?

Name a WC or EC Beckham has performed well in.
France '98...until he got sent off! We wouldn't have even played at 2002 had not been for him.
100% agree.
