  • One thing I would say is, she is has almost certainly an affinity with older people and she thought you were a threat to her or the lady. Try to avoid bending over you dog when putting a lead on (difficult especially with small dogs) making direct eye contact also would be considered a threat. I dont know how local you are to me, maybe I could help.

Many thanks for your kind offer of help TCE, but we are on the Dark Side in the Costa Del Canvey.
Not professing to be any kind of expert but have had dogs all my life so have the rudimentary knowledge to manage the problem hopefully.

well the tests went better than i expected. his x rays to his body were good and the x rays on his nose were good too. they did take sample tissues from the front and back of his nose on both the left and right airways of his nose but there wasn't really anything to see. he does have problems in his kidneys and liver but these can be supported by change of diet. and he was a bit anaemic but again can be assisted by his diet. while it's not to say he'll have to be monitored for a while and they'll test his blood in a coupla weeks, just to check but i can't tell you how relieved i am.

thanks for the support, which makes a big difference. spot the bald head?

hello t_c_e his diet has been changed to royal canin renal, in wet (tins) and dry biscuits and i'm changing over by gradual introduction half old food, half royal canin renal until he's just eating the renal stuff.

whether this would be appropriate for bailey i wouldn't like to say, talk to your vet.

i'll try and find out how to send a message direct to you in case you don't read this?

Bailey has been referred to a Neurologist in Hertfordshire for further investigation, he's back on Rimodahl for pain relief as when its needed. I don't want him to depend on it and with his work with the children we don't him being in pain either and the main thing is his quality of life, come August he will have had a year of treatments, X-ray, Ct and MRI scans all involving general anaesthetic which a big risk on its own. There be no more treatment after this, we will do what is required to make him comfortable and no more shows or agility. Bailey can see out his days just being Bailey.............

such a hard time when dogs get older and health becomes a concern because in my own case, i nearly freaked out at the thought of losing georgie.

but i hope the new diet will keep him good for a few more years and i hope you have bailey in comfort for a few more years too, t.c.e.
  • Lola went back to the breeder today for her first haircut and a little check that she is coming on fine got a great cut and was well behaved during it

breeder said she would like us to try and put more weight on her so any tips would be received she is having 3 meals a day in accordance to what the breeder said and she goes for 2 good walks a day but at only 3 months both are roughly 7-10 mins long

does anyone know of anything that would put a few pounds on easily

Butchers tinned tripe............ But she is only a tiny girl so add about a tablespoon once a day.
Edit to add..... dont replace a meal with it just add it to the meal, most dog love tripe and the last thing you need is Lola refusing to eat her normal grub because she prefers the tripe.

    brilliant.
  • so after a few days of Lola being off her food not totally but eating less and having two incidents of vomiting and diarrhoea I took her to the vet and told them I had found a stone in her poo and was worried a few x-rays later and 216 quid lighter until I claim she has a tummy with about 20 of very small stones no bigger than shingle and her intestines look swollen and inflamed all are passing through so no need for intrusive surgery right now, the vet is confident they will pass through

Not been on here for a while as I relocated 'Down Under' but things now on track and have 2 new additions to the family. Both Charlton fans obviously! I give you Boston and Ruby. Both rescued from the pound and are soft as.

Lola seems on the mend the breeder is a top woman and I phoned her she said come up, her husband is a vet who x-rayed her again and decided she also had a bad case of worms also, when I read him the name and dosage of the worming tablet our vet sold us he said it was a weak brand and not the right dosage for her weight,

he got us to starve her for 18hrs then 3 days of boiled rice and chicken, gave us some other tablets for upset stomach a stronger double dosage of worming tablets, and some sensitive stomach royal canin

all this for 20 quid the cost of the tablets

said the stones are only gravel size and will pass , his opinion is the dog is eating dirt not stones and that the small stones are in that

2 days later different dog solid stools running around happy as a pig in poo

only down side is she burst the kids pool with her happy play self

good side of that ,means I can get out the 15ft framed pool and have a real pool for a while as wife wont spend another 80 quid on a big blow up one

Glad she's on the mend D, she's a great girl.
Bailey' s been under house arrest for almost 2 weeks now and back on the antiflammitaries . Which with this heat hasn't been a great problem and Xena's only been getting 20 minutes walk about 9.30 at night all they want to do is kip.
We get all our dog medication on line. Just ask the vet for the prescription (they cant refuse, they don't like it but they cant refuse)
Worming tablets are at least 50% cheaper, for fleas and tick prevention either Garlic once a week in the spring and twice about this time of year will keep them away or we use Apple cider vinegar added to their water every other day, I don't like giving them anymore chemicals than I have to. ;) If you bathe your dogs, johnsons baby shampoo does the same job.
They can be right little b******* as puppies eating everything, Bailey poisoned himself at about 16 weeks old. We think it was a tulip bulb from next doors garden, which incidentally along with daffodils and cocoa chippings in the garden are all dog killers, also the the slug baits the chances of a dog getting Lung worm are slight against the odds of the slug/snail having eaten something that will cause the dog a lot more harm and quicker.

Sideways............They look like they've just been caught up to no good, well done on rescuing them they are crackers.
I've just been turned down by rescues for rehoming our third Shep. (and I did the homecheck?!) based on the rescues rules our new home doesn't have the appropriate secure 6' fences.
I prefer to train my dogs to stay within the parameters I lay down and not rely on a 6' fence which a German Shepherd would jump with no issues anyhow, but that's the rules. So we've reserved a L/C puppy which should be born around September time, so we're looking forward to that instead. :)

house the new home mate, the breeder gave us this stuff for lung worm the other week for nothing so we have no slug pellets now to the detriment of my iris's but hey ho, she is eyeballing the framed pool I can see her trying to work out the best way in, currently to high for her to jump but she is watching scarlett go up the ladder and I can see it in her eyes what is coming next

hope bailey gets better soon, Lola has only one walk now at the moment due to the heat and that's a late one which is a shame as I love those walks but she suffered after 5-6 mins and just got so hot

    Hi guys and girls,

Just wondered if any of you knew about the puppy/dog training sessions at Avery Hill on Tuesdays and Thursdays? A friend mentioned it but couldn't remember exactly where it was.

    Thanks.

    Both to be honest!

I think the sessions were near the cafe but can't be sure. I've looked online but no joy so far... Just picked up our little chap yesterday at 12 weeks, so want to get going ASAP really.
