  • We've signed Haynes, Russell on loan, Stephens should be back from injury soon, we seem to have plenty of midfielders, will we see one or two on their way soon?
  • I think the major plus in all this, other than the out and out pace is that until now, all the strikers we have can only play with BWP and therefore there has been no opportunity to rest him really without radically blunting our attack. We have killed 2 birds with one stone here and I see Clarke as a player who will be used against teams who try to beat us up a bit. It's all good and i am happy. Well done CP and board.
  • Anyone considered he would be a good option as a quick loan striker should BWP's knee start playing up and he needs rest? Overall i think he is a typical SCP signing, young and points to prove.COYR
  • Pace at this level can absolutely kill teams. We all remember how terrified defences were of Anyinsah in that 15 minute spell when he wasn't injured. If you're struggling to put a team like Bury or Rochdale to bed having someone they physically cannot deal with can change a game completely. You can get eleven men behind the ball to put a stop to intelligent play but if you can't get near the player you're in trouble. Reckon he'll be a very useful signing this year
  • I think when he gets his fitness levels up, Clarke will be reasonably pacy (from what I remember of him). He runs the channels more than our other options, also roughs defenders up and is ideal to come off the bench. I'm not sure if he holds the ball up well, if he does, perhaps Hayes will be off.
  • Well, we can't say we haven't got a diverse group of forwards.

The fox in the box (BWP), the big lump (Clarke), the whippet (Haynes), the provider (Hayes) and the classy all-rounder (Big Yann).

    We've got it all covered.

We have not got a Barry Endean .. yet .. Fat useless bloke living off past glories
    Gary Doherty? :)
  • Don't want him, especially don't want to waste £200k on a player who can't hack it at our level.

He'll do a job in the 3rd division though. But you're not staying there, so seems an odd signing.

50k reported on here. Can't really go wrong with that sort of money. Unless you're Millwall of course.
  • Also if Schlupp had not got injured then we may not have seen this transfer happen, CP noticed that we lack pace and moved to rectify it

I wouldn't say that our team overall is slow - but we don't use pace as a weapon. I would assume that he will initially be deployed against the likes of Llera -by being utilised as a sub if needed -who is absolutely undone by it (although unfortunately, I don't think he will start for Wednesday tomorrow).
  • Good signing at this level, gives us something different.

Plus he has clearly annoyed the spanners even though they are backtracking and pretending they dont care.

As if anyone would choose Millwall over Charlton other than money.

  • I don't know if this has been mentioned but his goal scoring record isn't great. However, we have learnt over the past few months that players shouldn't be judged on goals scored. Take our very own Yann for example. 1 goal in 20 appearances for Leicester, we all thought that this was a terrible signing. He's got 7 in 15 for us!!

I think SCP can get the best out of Danny Haynes.
  • He could do a lot of damage to Llera with his pace tomorrow
So true. Run at Llera at put him on the back foot and he's useless.

Agreed and i think the penny is starting to drop with even the most deluded of their fans that quite simply, any plans they had to try and progress out of the championship have had to be shelved / slowed because their fans have let them down. They have once again built up a head of steam, got promoted as we flounder only to see sole destroyingly low crowds. I fear for them long term as Pathitis realised the same and knew that league 1 was their level. Expect relegation for them if not this year then certainly next and i don't see them coming back up any time soon until their fans start supporting them in respectable numbers.

I may be stating the obvious here, but would Powell not have known Haynes from his time in the Youth team?
Most know a bit about his character and how he might handle Haynes to get the best out of him.
Surely a decent signing at this level and the fact that he was prepared to drop down a league to join us is encouraging.
  • He (like Danny Green) has a point to prove as well.
  • Is he a replacement for BWP?

I don't think it is, as luckily he has not attracted too much attention recently.
  • I think when he gets his fitness levels up, Clarke will be reasonably pacy (from what I remember of him).
He looked anything but pacey from the little I saw of him in his Charlton debut from the bench. Looked more like he had lead weights tied to his ankles in fact.

mobile once fully fit i'd say but certainly not pacey
  • these types of players can frustrate

think of grant, pringle, varney but in scp we trust and i think he could be a good signing for the next years
SCP can & does turn " water " into "wine" ...

  • Is Pathitis some sort of disease?

  • Based in the interview about Hayes and a few other players , I'm a bit worried SCP only signed Haynes because he is 'fast' , ,not once does he say along the lines of ' he is a good striker WHO IS ALSO fast' ... Anyone else ?
  • Is Pathitis some sort of disease?
A lot of Millwall fans would tell you he was but i'm glad he sold up when he did - they were in danger of becoming successful.
  • I take your point WSS. But Euell and Benson haven't been playing. Hence why I don't see how Clarke or Haynes can come in and dislodge Kermo or Hayes. The 5 bench rule has harmed this quite a bit, and, as mentioned, Waggy must also be wondering where he will fit in too.
Better Squad is a positive and I think, like me, Powell doesn't rate Hayes and Euell. No negatives from this signing just positives for me.

We definitely use Wiggins pace as a weapon and wasn't long ago Powell said BWP was our pace up front.

Agree we didn't have anyone very very quick up front, but we did already have some pace in the team which we used.

As for Haynes not many strikers are goalscorers soon as they play senior football. BWP only starter scoring regularly in the last few years and he's in his mid 20's. There are always a few players that find the right club and become goalscorers.

Seems we've got him cheaply and on a short contract. It might not work out but if he does he could be worth a lot more. A young proven goalscorer from a lower division could cost a lot more without actually being much better.
  • Hopefully not one to break the bank but a punt that might just pay off.
  • Yes Len a punt and like Clarke the length of contract seems right. Help us this year to gain promotion as both are or at least should be capable in this division and a chance next season to have a good look to see if they cut it a level up. If not thanks but we look elsewhere in any push towards the promised land.
  • I'm not too sure about Haynes. 203 games and 33 goals .. he's hardly prolific. I would sooner have seen the money spent on defensive cover.

Powell in first team - would he have even been aware of Haynes existence?

  • A good signing. Sensible contract length and only a small fee (if it doesn't work out). Impact sub for now.

"He's a good player and one with pace"-CP in the OS interview.

Impact sub at first whether we're chasing a game or looking to kill one off. Defenders hate pace, especially League 1 defenders. Keeps all the forwards on their toes & CP says in his interview that he regards him as a striker.

Never seen him play so have no opinion yet.
