Tried one of these big ole US TV series for a change last night - first 5 episodes of True Detective. Not bad, slightly confusing in parts, I shall watch the whole lot, but I prefer Line of Duty, Luther etc.

First or second series Algarve? The first is brilliant, I gave up on the second.
First RM. It's okay. I know it's fiction, but [SPOILER ALERT] the cover up of the massacre at the drug factory - forensics would have sussed out the GSR in an instant, even in 1995 - good acting though.
Seen a preview of the first 2 eps of 11 22 63 - starting on Fox TV from Sunday.
Admittedly I am a big Stephen King fan, but it is bloody brilliant.
King is an utterly incredible storyteller (one of the best of his generation surely if not the best). Combine that with JJ Abrams getting the book on the TV and it is a recipe for success.
They replicate the early 60s to perfection. James Franco is superb as Jake Epping.
I enjoy reading Stephen King, he's a great writer and comes up with some brilliant story concepts. However, I do sometimes find his endings kind of rushed and anti- climactic. E.g The Stand and the follow-up to The Shining (forgotten the title, but two thirds through I was thinking it was his best ever). That said, I enjoyed 11.22.63, so I am looking forward to this.
On Friday at 9pm, Sky One, a new thriller series starting called "The Five" written by best selling author ( apparently) Harlan Coben
Decent write up in the TV Times.
Harlan Coben is a really good author. A lot of his books have a basketball player as the lead. Well worth a read

His standalone books are great. Better than the Bolitar ones imho. However, after reading a few of then, you realise that they are, basically, the same plot every time.
Someone needs to abolish this bloke. Never done anything except be a politician.
Staying off topic, but too true. During one spell of boundary changes I was unfortunate enough to have him as an MP. Even wrote to him with a complaint. He wrote back, but completely missed the point. Useless waste of space.

According to Ms Hudson, Mr Whittingdale showed little regard for his constituents, and could be outspoken. ‘I once asked him what he was up to and he said he was at a fete in his constituency with some “reprobate oiks”, by which he meant the local people.
Enjoying Undercover to a point, I hate pulling up dramas on petty things, after all it's just entertainment, but a couple of things last night were quite pathetic:
1) You are going to meet a new key witness who can throw some light on a massive miss carriage of justice that you have been fighting for over 20 years; the meeting is a most two hours and a couple of hours away. Suddenly you are called from Louisiana about your other life long legal battle, what do you do? Which one do you chose? Well do both for goodness sake!! Two hours or so difference to get all the way to the USA is hardly going to make any difference!
2) You're dropping off your daughter at Oxford University and your wife's best friend just happens to be dropping off her son at the same college, at the same time and she sees you in a compromising, albeit innocent, position. Too much of a coincidence.
Been disappointed with Undercover in fact I fell asleep watching it last night. I understand that to get a good drama you have to often suspend credibility but this stretches it too far, also with all the flashbacks I am struggling to know what is going on it is too messy. Shame as it's a good cast but the premis is a mess.
On the other hand have been enjoying The A word Christopher Ecclestone is great as the foot in mouth dad.

Liking Marcella, of course Anna Friel is always worth a watch but plenty of menace and red herrings it's loads better than Undercover. By the way Charlie haven't caught the new Tunnel but thought the first one was top notch.
