I want to see Bairstow replace Morgan tomorrow.

    Madness!
Morgan has passed 50 runs only twice in his last 28 ODI's.

Please back up your comment, I've backed up mine.

    I will help him out:
Morgan averages nearly twice as much in ODI's as Bairstow
Morgan has 4 ODI tons, Bairstow hasn't got a fifty
Morgan has a lot more experience

    That enough?

Great analysis! Compare stats of someone who has played 98 ODI's to someone who has played 7! Brilliant.

Bairstow is the future and Morgan is the past. He is not up to international cricket and the last of his 100's was nearly 3 years ago.

I completely agree that you cant compare them. But your 'backing up' was awful. You point out Morgans poor form but who knows if Bairstow will do better. Your argument is not good enough.
Fact is - Morgan can take a game away on his day. Has he delivered enough? No. Has he delivered more times than Bairstow? Yes.

Well on that basis we should re-call Gooch.

    I give up.

because you don't have an argument! You have pointed out Morgans form and thats it ffs! Not 1 reason as to why Bairstow should be picked

Swann replaces Tredwell. SL win the toss and choose to field.

Oh dear... looks like my updates are cursed again. Another soft Bell dismissal.

    48-1 11.3 overs. Bell 20.

Trott ticking along at over a run a ball. He is our best 1 day player on current form. Need a couple more batsmen to click if we are going to win this.

Usual strategy - try and get to 180 or so off 40, then go mental over the last ten overs.
  • Options
I think they'll try to push on a little earlier as they know they'll have to face malinga in the closing overs

Cook goes - LBW Herath 59.

    134/2 off 29.

England do look a bit more urgent today.

    1st 50: 70 balls
    2nd 50: 67 balls
    3rd 50: 56 balls

    England 155-2, 33 overs

    Trott 49*(61)
    Root 16*(15)

Looking good, but what a waste of a review by Cook

Morgan is a lovely short form batsman

Trott & Root .. almost anagrams and play so well together .. forget Root opening in tests .. he's the middle order batsman we've lacked for a long time

trott and root playing some really sensible cricket.

    S L fielding is rank rubbish (:->)

End of the powerplay overs. 201-2 from 40 overs.

Worth bumping Buttler up the order ahead of Bopara in 6?

I'd say so, Morgan and Buttler to come in, Bopara just to steady the ship should things head south.

Saying that though, England don't like changing their plans, so wouldn't be surprised if nothing changes.

Root gets to 50 but Trott out lbw to Herath for 76. 218-3 42 overs.

That's weird, my Sky Go is 30 seconds behind somehow, saw Callumcafc's post before it actually happened on my tablet.

Not a bad time for Trott to get out actually, now's the time to kick on and build a formidable total.

    Root 50 from 43 balls.

No more updates from me then until the end of the innings. :-)

he's become a bit of a 'closing' specialist .. IF he comes in and gets out fast, we lose impetus at the end ????

If he gets in and out fast, we'll still have the cushion of Bopara coming in for the last 5 overs that we would've had anyway.

But Buttler could come in and hit 50 off 15 balls whereas Bopara doesn't have that in his locker. Buttler is the unpredictable but potentially explosive player in our line-up, seems silly to waste him to play the safe number six.
