Don't mind Hartlepool but feel a little sorry for Torquay as they were first or second in the league most of the season. Sutton timed their run well to nick the championship.

They were miles in front at one point but had a load of injuries and blew it before recovering at the end.

I saw Bradley Pritchard play 3 time last season for Cray wanderers when they were playing at Bromley FC ground. He told me 3 years ago he was working in the City  when i had a quick word after a game at Whyteleafe when he was playing for Greenwich Borough. Plays for the love and what ever money is left after the main striker/goal scorer has been paid !

    Non-league/FACup

THE FA Cup will celebrate its 150th anniversary with a total of 729 clubs entering the famous competition – and replays will return in the qualifying rounds.

Prize money for 2021-22 will remain at circa £16m with payments to winners and losers continuing in all the qualifying rounds before reverting to victors from the first round proper onwards.

Replays were scrapped last season to help clubs get through the rounds in light of the Covid pandemic, a feat that was achieved, ahead of the first round proper in November, which is locked in because of broadcasting commitments.

To make the numbers work, two draws have had to be made. One determines the 21 Step 4 clubs that will enter in the extra preliminary round.

Staines Town, who famously beat Shrewsbury Town in the first round in 2009, are among those entering a round earlier than the rest of the Step 4 clubs.

Pitching In NPL West outfit Marine last year went all the way from the preliminary round to the third round proper, where they met Tottenham Hotspur, having netted more than £78,000 in prize money alone. A draw has also been held to determine eight of the 17 Step 6 Leagues who will be represented, with one club from each.

    Fairest

The FA said: “This club is the highest ranked club within that Step 6 League that wasn’t successful in receiving upward movement to Step 5 of the NLS in the recent restructuring.

“We believe this to be the fairest method in the current circumstances, to ensure the competition has a fair balance of clubs from Step 6 of the National League System (NLS.)”

The extra preliminary round will kick off on August 7, with the Preliminary Round on August 21.

First round qualifying will bring the arrival of the 87 Step 3 clubs, before the National League North and South clubs, as usual, enter in second round qualifying.

National League clubs join in fourth round qualifying with the first round proper penned in for the Saturday, November 6 weekend.

The final will be played at Wembley on Saturday, May 14, with the Women’s FA Cup final the following day.

Meanwhile, replays won’t take place in the 2021-22 Buildbase FA Trophy or Buildbase FA Vase competitions.

The FA said: “These format changes have been made to ease some pressure on the fixture schedule and to assist clubs and leagues in meeting all fixture commitments.”

The first two draws for the Trophy and Vase will be made on Friday.

  • There’s some odd logic involved in the prize money, at least in my opinion.

Winners and losers get money in the qualifying rounds - no problem with that, as it’s away to filer money into the smaller clubs.

Winner takes all from the first round EXCEPT the semis and the final, when we go back to loser payments. That’s $1.8m that would be better spent by increasing some of the earlier payments.

  • Chatham set up a home derby with Ashford United after putting six past Eastbourne United on Saturday.

Striker Dan Bradshaw was the leading marksman, scoring four times in Chats’ 6-2 extra preliminary round win.

Jack Evans marked his return from suspension by giving Chatham an early lead but it was cancelled out immediately by Chinonse Nwajagu.

Bradshaw’s double made it 3-1 by half-time and while Charlie Ball pulled a goal back on the hour, Bradshaw took his tally to four before Luke Rooney’s late deflected goal wrapped up the victory.

Sheppey progressed at the expense of fellow Southern Counties East side Tower Hamlets, all the goals coming in the second half in a 4-1 success.

Junior Aikhionbare hit the bar in the first half for the Ites while Hamlets had 10 men when Tola Odedoyin collected two bookings in quick succession after the break.

Billy Bennett’s free-kick put Sheppey ahead, James Jeffrey adding a second and then substitute Michael Hagan making it 3-0 with 10 minutes left.

Wale Odedoyin pulled one back but Jeffrey added his second late on to set up a home tie with Saltdean United in the next round.

Kennington scored all of their goals in a 5-0 defeat of Horley Town in the second half - their first-ever FA Cup win.

Gary Lockyer, an own goal, Liam Middleton and a brace by Callum Peck did the damage. Kennington will host Little Common Rovers in the next round.

After losing at this stage for the last two years it was third time lucky for Punjab United, who posted their first-ever FA Cup win with a 2-0 success at Mile Oak.

Ope Aromona gave Punjab a first-half lead and William Johnson Cole’s penalty in the second half wrapped up the victory and set up a trip to Phoenix Sports in the next round.

Phoenix progressed themselves, 1-0 winners at Molesey thanks to James Dyer’s goal seven minutes from time.

Hollands & Blair will host Ramsgate in the next round after a 3-0 win over Holmesdale. Harry Goodger scored a second-half hat-trick to send Blair through.

Deal’s players had extra reason to embrace Connor Coyne after he slammed home an injury-time winner against Southall.

Not only was it the only goal of the game but it also meant they avoided a midweek replay away from home.

Southall had played nearly all of the second half with 10 men after a red card for Alcino Souza Santos.

Louis Collins scored twice for Sevenoaks but a late equaliser means they will have to host Cobham in a replay on Wednesday night as their clash ended 2-2.

Erith & Belvedere also require a midweek replay, they held step 4 Tooting & Mitcham to a 1-1 draw away from home, Ollie Bate scoring for the Deres in the first half.

Erith Town progressed thanks to a goal in either half by Harry Gamble and Michael Power at Sheerwater.

Harry Hudson gave Tunbridge Wells an early lead at Walton & Hersham but the hosts hit back to win 2-1.

Lordswood and Knaphill will meet again on Tuesday night after a goalless draw at Martyn Grove while Kane Butler scored twice and Victor Aiyelabola got the other goal as K Sports defeated Rusthall 3-1.

There were home defeats for Glebe and Fisher, Welling Town lost 3-2 at Crawley Down Gatwick and Canterbury went down 3-0 at Balham.

Bearsted’s trip to Banstead Athletic was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch so they’ll try again in midweek.

Winning clubs banked £1,125 in prize money while the extra preliminary round is due to take place on Saturday, August 21.

Two matches scheduled to take place on the opening weekend of the new National League season have been postponed due to outbreaks of Covid-19.

Dover Athletic v Solihull Moors and Wrexham v Yeovil Town have both been called off on Saturday, 21 August.

Dover and Yeovil confirmed cases of Covid-19 within their squads.

Solihull will instead host Wrexham on the first day of the 2021-22 campaign, with the original fixtures due to be rescheduled at a later date.

Great start for Dartford this season. Two fairly tough games won, and top of the league on GD. Early days yet, but they look a quality outfit.

Yes, they look a good side, as shown by the decent match they gave Charlton. Surely this year is the one they go up.

By contrast Welling have zero points and GD of -6 already

Dartford have a much bigger budget than Welling this season. Dartford should do well.

Just checking the FA Cup results, which is always fun at this time of year, and noticed that, like Liverpool with two clubs, Liverpool and Everton, or Sheffield with United and Wednesday  so Erith now has both Erith Town and the traditional Erith and Belvedere. Football powerhouse - they need a San Siro in the town centre to share.

Looking at Wiki, they used to be called Woolwich Town but changed their name after leaving Woolwich, thus following in the footsteps of some minor club now in north London
