  • Went with Paddy Power, only 5 places but allowed me £40 of bets with a £20 stake, covered the Mrs's choice too.

Cheers as always PM, brilliant thread and doubles the interest in the GN for me. Awesome to see the work that goes in regardless of the outcome (but fingers crossed, eh?).

Put a 5er on la quinto, with a nice 200 return, then covered my arse putting 10 50p bets on other horses to win. Got a 1/4 chance of gettin anything back!

That was a fine win in the novice chase by Balder Succes but a 0.6s faster than standard time, albeit on the Mildmay course, does suggest that the ground generally isn't getting any slower and is definitely riding Good. They have watered the GN course but, unless the forecast showers arrive, meaningfully and soon, I'm going to have to bite the bullet and call it Good ground and add The Package as a 6th to my slip.
Although on Good the model rates The Package, Shakalakaboomboom and Long Run as equal place chances (at least 15L behind the top 3) and Mountainous and 2 others another 5L behind them, I can't get away from the nagging doubt over Shaka's fitness. As I've said before, The Package's profile noses just ahead of the other 2 by virtue of a borderline extra positive stat (based on his 14.5L 4th in the Hennessy behind Bobs Worth) so he gets the nod as the model's 4th selection and best place candidate.
Does mean that with 6 running for me a single place won't be enough to breakeven but c'est la vie.
My fault for misjudging the likely going.

Hang on, that Grade 1 stayers hurdle was a bit slower - I made it 6 secs slower than the 3m novice hurdle yesterday. Didn't appear to dawdle. What's occurring?
  • Another winner in a forecast pmsfl

AP cut across salubrious there with two to go and IMO seriously impeded him knocked him right out of stride

Well, time's come to bite the bullet.
Those last two races have been slightly slower than comparable races yesterday so, probably, that Balder Succes win in a fast time was indeed pretty special and the ground, at least on the Mildmay and hurdles course, is broadly similar to yesterday.
Not that that necessarily has any bearing on the price of fish or, more to the point, the going on the GN course.
All this prevarication about whether it is riding Good or Easy side of Good about is, perversely, just for the place runners on the slip but they can make a big difference to returns.
With no umbrellas in sight, I'm going to have to cover the bases and go to 6 selections (all e/w) for the 2014 GN:

Win candidates: T43 / Monbeg Dude / Chance Du Roy
Place candidates: Shakalakaboomboom / Mountainous / The Package

There we have it. Good luck boys and girls, whether you've followed my model's selections or some of them or none at all.
If you have followed them, cheers for the vote of confidence and many apologies in advance if this is that long-awaited blank.
In any event, very much hope all horse and jocks return safe and sound.
    All the best.

And if nothing places I suggest that you go ex-directory ;-)

I won't need to tbh AA..............she who must be obeyed will have ejected me from the house by 4.30pm.
Let's hope there's not the usual three or false starts then because you might miss the end of the race.

One false start down. Let me know if you want me to give you a live commentary for the finish.
