  • Not frustrating for me, assuming I can get tickets. Easy enough for pretty much the whole country to get to the NIA.
  • I don't Birmingham is a decided yet, we have played at the NIA before.

I doubt capacity will be the major factor, but rather the atmosphere

Indor in Birmingham??? Who made that decision?

Think they want to play on hard courts as its during the hard court season, don't think there are any decent sized outdoor hard court stadiums in the UK.
Needs to hold at least 8,000 - Glasgow is 7,700 capacity frustratingly so will probably be Birmingham.
Wembley Arena would be my choice or could take it to the Glasgow Hydro. Both of which can hold well over 10,000 people.

And the big issue with Birmingham is what? Lots of international sporting events have been held at the NIA.
  • Too southern
  • Won't play it at Wimbledon?

The roof would be there if required.
  • As the captain and nly players that won anything for GB in that quarter final are Scots they should play in Scotland as a way of saying "thank you Scotland".

    What?

    What did I say?
  • Went today and it was amazing. Andy did look out of sorts and I wondered if he was ill as he looked pale and exhausted. However, Andy is gritty and gutsy so fought back admirably.
On a funny note, we had bought tickets (without realising) in the big block of blue French fans. They were amazing in their support and singing. Really good natured and really gave the place atmosphere. After the match, they were laughing and joking with the GB group who were all dressed in the GB suits. They sang their anthem and the Brits our one as they were leaving. Good day!
They announced that they will decide the venue in early August. Would the O2 be free or suitable?
  • IF we progress onto the final, we'll be at home against Argentina or away in Belgium.

Semi finals against Australia due to be played over the weekend of 18-20 September and the final over the weekend of 27-29 November.

Wimbledon on grass, using the roof if needed, would work in September surely?

EDIT: Super Horns is ahead of me!

He's Scottish, they all look like that :-)

Yes, those French fans did look like a good group.

The Dalai Lama is playing the O2 on the 19th September, I imagine it's the sort of venue that needs to be booked a long way in advance

  • The Dalai Lama is playing the O2 on the 19th September

I know he's spiritually enlightened and all that, but I'd still fancy Andy Murray to beat him. Maybe in 4 sets.
  • Murray a set and a break up in the first Davis Cup tie.
  • 6-3 6-0 for Murray.
  • Murray doing a great job at the moment. Hopefully he'll get the third set won nice and quickly allowing him a good rest before the Doubles tomorrow.
  • We've a surplus of riches in the doubles really, when you consider we have 2 players who reached the US open semis, one reaching the final. IF today had been a harder match for Andy, I'd have been tempted to rest him tomorrow and leave him fresh for Sunday.
  • Murray wins 6-3 6-0 6-3.
  • Great stuff !

    Thanks, Callum
  • Not going so well for Dan Evans against Tomic.

    Tomic is winning 6-3 7-6 3-0.

Think we're gonna have to rely on the Murray brothers once again.

Evans takes the 3rd set 7-6. Doesn't he know the rugby world cup starts this evening :-)

Tomic was serving for the match but Evans broke and now won the third set on a tie break.

    Tomic 6-3 7-6 6-7 Evans
  • Tomic wins fourth set 6-4.

1-1 after the first day. Doubles to come tomorrow.
  • You played your Heart out Dan Evans.
    Good choice by captain.
If there was a tournament for male tennis players under 5ft 9in.
    You would be number 1.
some sublime shots but the latent power of Tomic just got him over the line.

Andy should be fresh enough to play in the double with Jamie tomorrow.
  • Dan Evans, the Chris Solly of British tennis!
  • As long as you got new balls and a high toss does size matter ?
  • From 4-1 down in the 3rd set, we come back to win 6-4. 2 sets to 1 up now...
  • 2 sets all, we were so close to winning the match 3-1
  • 2 sets all, we were so close to winning the match 3-1

Commentators decided to jinx us by discussing where the Final should be held here!!
  • Brilliant win !!!
  • Loved the celebration from Andy at the end there...
