How can it be cheaper to go London to whitstable return than bromley south to whitstable return2

Have run into total Sidcup line shutdown at Hither Green, just in time for rush hour. Enjoy0
-
Yeah, 2 minutes notice that my Sidcup train was now going down the Bexleyheath line.0
-
Bit humid, but will be a lovely cycle home to Eltham in about 20 minutes. Might go via Greenwich Park on the way back, then stop off at the princess of wales for a casual pint on the heath.
Glad I won't be squashed into a slow running late train....0 -
My thoughts are with you guys. Meanwhile, DLR is currently operating a good service, bit disappointed I've not got a window seat this afternoon, but all good other than that.

Here we go fucking knobs everyone just take the day off Thursday they really are a joke of a firm my carriage tonight was 43.8 degrees

The problem is, it’s Network Rail who impose speed restrictions that although doesn’t actually make rail companies reduce the services, if they didn’t there would be uproar as hardly anything would be moving.
it does unfortunately make sense, like it or not, it’s better for all.......IF thy get it right.1 - Sponsored links:

Less trains means more people packed into trains in this heat - very dangerous even my train tonight was empty seats but still roasting5
-
yeah i don't understand that - do they think people can just not go in because of the weather?0
-
“Sorry boss, can’t come in today, Southeastern have advised not to.....oh yeah, but it’s Network Rail that impose the restrictions”
”that’s okay, have the day off...the train companies have got it spot on”6 -

I’m going to give it a go Thursday but if it looks bad I’m quoting Valleygary to my line manager. I’m sure he’ll be on my side.0

If they’re gonna impose something like this then they shouldn’t be selling day tickets at stations. If anyone takes their kids for a day trip up town they need shooting4 -
Are the other train companies saying the same?0
-
What about manual workers or shop staff they can’t really work from home3

If you can work from home perhaps do so.
If you have spare days holidays & fancy the day off, on what will possibly be the hottest ever day recorded in the UK, then it may be a good idea to do so.
If the numbers are reduced by 20% that would be a great help to those that can't.1 -
Well I’m going to wan... sorry work from home on Thursday then.6

Investment in modern trains with working air con would be helpful. The Thameslink trains are decent but those metro trains are not fit for purpose in these conditions. If the track is also unable to take the heat, maybe some investment there is overdue as well!!?2

I drive to and from work but I’m going to heed their advice about not travelling on Thursday as I fear my car will melt.
Thanks Southeastern.1 -

southern - may experience delays due to speed restrictions
south western - no mass cancellation or delays expected
so south eastern must have chocolate tracks - they really are the pits.
the winter they cannot cope if the temp drops below 8 degrees
the thing we are experiencing now is called SUMMER2 -

Nobody says to you when you hand over thousands for a season ticket, "by the way mate, you won't actually be able to travel on a lot of those days. We can't run a normal service if it's too hot, too cold or too mild, or if it's too wet or too dry, or if it's too sunny or not sunny enough.
It's entirely taking the piss. If you pre-booked cinema tickets and when you turned up they didn't have any films to show, you'd expect your money back. If they really can't run the trains on Thursday, then they should have people deployed at all the major stations on Friday (or whenever they next have a day where they can run a normal service), handing out compensation - "sorry, we couldn't deliver what you paid for yesterday, here's your money back." Utter scum.12 -

Its okay for them though because like you say; SouthEastern would still have my full months Season Ticket

Crossrail is finally coming thirty years after the rest of Europe did the same thing. But we love to moan about the waste of money spent on all these "white elephants". so we just make do and complain.
