  • This thread is why I don't spend any money with Charlton other than my ST. Drink before the game, get some food from the valley cafe, the chippie, the Kebab shop or Sainsburys by the station & drink afterwards. The food/drink in the ground is overpriced & generally shite.

This. The price has increased rapidly in about 4 years and the quality is arguably worse.

Example: Pie and pint was £5 or 5.50 about 2 years ago and is now £8 I think.
  • Not sure how we compare with other clubs, but bought a bottle of IPA at Forest, a sign said it was £2.70 but was charged £2.85, when queried it, was told sign out of date

Because when you get in the pub early to have 10 pints before kick off eating is irrelevant.
Its just afterwards when you stop for 45 mins you start to feel a bit puckish.

    pull the other one!
  • Eating is never irrelevant to me.
  • £2.10p, for a do it yourself, cup of black tea!!!!! Ffs!

Why would anyone buy overpriced food and drink at the Valley is beyond me. Just have a meal and a drink beforehand at the many Cafes, pubs and supermarkets in the area. Or do like I do have a meal at home. It is no good complaining about the fare on offer at the Valley, if you keep on buying it. If we all boycotted it, they would have to change.

Or in this case actually, have less people buying because the offer is fine but so hard to actually purchase so therefore only have 1 kiosk open and only one person serving!!

If they'd have opened another kiosk with one more person serving bottles only from a fridge I guarantee they would make the wage back to cover their costs in 30 mins over half time. The kiosk and fridge is there so why not use it? That same person could work on the street by the ground selling programmes before the game before taking position on the kiosk for half time. 10.30 -1.30 bit of cash for a night out for that student.
  • So what happened to the Moroccans and their half decent food outside the North Stand last season? I actually bought some of that stuff. And then a pint of decent beer afterwards in the stall inside. Expected to find them there before Rotherham, we'd been for a swim at the Lido beforehand and were starving. Ended up eating crisps FFS.

Was that really not successful, if not, why not? Always seemed to be a decent flow of customers.

Seem to remember the food stall outside the North stand and it's absence was mentioned at a Fans Forum meeting, Pretty sure we were told at the meeting it was due to an Incident.

Shame really as it looked like it was starting to get established.

    an Incident......:-)

Did they not expand on this and explain why it was a Terminal Incident? Or did they refuse on the grounds of National Security, perhaps? :-)

The incident being a safety issue.

  • I stopped having a beer in the ground because it's shite
  • the burger in the west stand tastes okay but for the price you can get much better outside the ground, the lager is the same as at most grounds across England apart from Chelsea as they have singha on tap.

I stopped having a shite in the ground because it's shite
  • I stopped having a piss in the ground because it's lager

  • I smoke more in the toilets as there are less people pissing and shitting as a result of the catering.
  • I'm hoping the real ale kiosk sells hot cider again this year. Nice for drinking in one's seat.

It was suggested that the price of a pie and pint would be £7 this was at a fans forum meeting in July 2015, a comment was made at the meeting that this is expensive compared to other grounds. However the prices are benchmarked against comparable.

Suggestions were then also invited to put forward any other good food options seen at other grounds.

Being close to midday last Sunday I went to north lower to get 2 balti pies and a hot dog for me, the wife and our youngest. Then our eldest says he fancies a cheese and onion pie. Ok, I foolishly say.

Server tallies it up on the till. Pleasant enough, but clearly not used a till much before. Then took my £20. Then he delays saying he needs to check they have cheese and onion. Comes back, doesn't say anything, puts it through the till and gives me change. Then brings everything except the cheese and onion pie. I ask him for the pie. He tells me to hang on and disappears for a bit. Comes back apologising that there are actually no cheese and onion pies. I ask for a refund. He disappears again to get his manager to unlock the till. I get £3.60 back and leave accepting these things happen.

Get to seat and guess what? Me and the wife stick our forks into our balti pies and they are both cheese and onion!!!!!

I couldn't face going back again, so shut up and ate it.

so your eldest was left unfed whilst you tucked into his cheese and onion pie? big meanie.
Ha ha. I was all for pretending in front him that it was balti, but the softy wife offered him some of hers. He turned his nose up at it though.

But it's actually £7.50 according to the advertising ... I haven't tried to buy it!
  • Pie chat at the pie window (having already been to the separate hot dog window)

Me 'Can I have a chicken and ham pie please?'
Server 'what would you like to drink'
Me 'fosters and a bottle of water please'
Server ' here's your water that will be [£1.50 can't remember the amount]
Me 'ok thanks, and a fosters and a chicken and ham pie?'
Server 'no chicken and ham pies left only chicken'
Me 'is that a balti chicken pie?'
    Server 'yes a chicken pie'
Me 'I don't like curry pies, I'll have a steak pie instead please'
Server 'one chicken pie then as we have no chicken and ham pies'
Me getting slightly cross 'no just give me a lager and a steak pie please'
Needed to ask for supporting manager assistance to deal with that. Anyway came to around £10 for a bad pie, a bad pint, and a bottle of water I was not allowed to keep the lid for and so got split before it was drunk.

    Thanks.
