Food at football grounds has always been notoriously crap and people have two options. Buy it or don`t buy it. I always eat before the game and after. The only time I would even contemplate eating inside a football ground would be at an away game if I didn`t manage to get anything to eat beforehand.

Saying that, the food is miles better than the old days. I remember the food available in the 70,s and early 80`s and it was almost inedible. Does anyone remember those disgusting burgers that were pre-cooked and came out of a tin full of brine or something and were just re-heated? If Charlton tried to sell those at matches these days they would be closed down by the food brigade!

Had that at Welling United and after a bite, I threw it away, disgusting!!!
Do Welling still do cheese in a french stick? Used to always grab one when Charlton reserves played at PVR.
  • The ale yesterday wasn't good in the east stand yesterday, instead of a polypin they had cask of the Ludlow gold which hadn't settled properly so was all cloudy...
  • He wouldn't be writing that if he'd asked for some vegetarian cheese
  • I know. But the clue is that he had steak pie, not many who like that are fussy about whether their cheese is veggie or not.
  • my hot dog was poor. Tony Watt was awesome
  • I actually think the beer in the north upper has been slightly better in the last few weeks, coincidentally since Watt & Johnson joined...

    Fussy?❇

Bikey knew he wasn't starting, so tucked in and finished all their stock before the fans arrived
  • Two weeks ago was served cold burger and potato wedges in upper west. Took them back and given money and a free burger. Touched the 'meat' which was again cold. Supervisor told the girl to check with a temperature probe. Found to be below temperature required as were all the burgers in the hot cabinet. Declined a pie from the same cabinet.

Have reported to environmental health at Greenwich Council and they are investigating.

BREAKING PIE NEWS BREAKING PIE NEWS
I am strict veggie have been since I was 18 now in 40s. I remembered that the club said when they announced the new catering deal that the pies would be made by Hollands pies. I was going to buy one at the Watford match but they had sold out, so I could not check them. When I got home I looked on the Hollands pies website and it says the cheese & onion pie is approved by the vegetarian society so I had one at the Wolves match. My only complaint would be after waiting in a que for ages v Watford to be told "sold out" can't they put tape over or cross out the items on the boards so you don't waste your time queuing for something they don't have in stock.

I tried the cheese pie at the beam back. I was surprised at how nice it was. I'll have that again. :-)
  • The cheese pie is very good

    Well that`s a mature comment.
  • In the covered end at 2.20 and only one cheese pie left.
Is it that we had hordes of vegetarians in early on Saturday or just that they have poor stock control?
We flipped a coin and I got the pie and she had chips.
  • A shame the ale/cider stall near the East stand entrance has had only one (really slow) person on, the last 2 home games, as they must have lost a lot of business (mine for a start)

  • Had a meat pie that turned out to have lava inside for a laugh, new teeth arrive soon as originals melted.

They are mental hot aren't they. Quite often the plastic packaging is stuck to the bottom of the foil tray. I can't believe someone above was talking about a 'temperature probe' to some of their food. If you tried to probe the pies, you'd end up with nothing but a melted metal nugget inside.
  • Saturday in the North Upper, bar towards the East Stand was a joke. A few suits came round before the game and 2 tills were taken away, leaving four servers. At half time, the Fosters ran out and the supervisor came round looked at it for a second and said "let it run out, I don't care"!!

We've done well with these swanky new caterers haven't we??

One too many s's in that post.
    Thorry Dave!!
  • Service is pathetic in the North Stand. I know it's not exactly a dream job but no one gives a stuff.

Was in the West Upper for a change against Fulham and was shocked to find a pulled pork bap on offer. Saw a bar called The Brewery Tap and thought that sounded promising. However they just had Foster's and John Smiths. Maybe the name was ironic or something.

Is there some real ale on offer somewhere at the Valley? With several excellent South London brewers it's a shame we have to put up with the slop they serve (when they can be bothered).

And tragic that Goddard's pies are sold at Selhurst instead of SE7.

If that stall is busy , there is a smaller and less busier stall run by the same people about C/D block entrance East stands , right outside the toilets!

Spent whole half queuing for cider only to find there was none on. You'd think they could put up a sign or occasionally announce to those waiting"cider's off".

There have been stall(s) selling Ludlow Gold in the East Stand this season, though the service the last 2 home games has been lacking...

You spent 45 mins queing for non existant cider ?
  • Not sure if this is the right thread, but it was good to see real ale back in the East Stand with the former betting booth converted to a bar offering choice of 2 beers supplied by Camerons. Catering manager was on hand. Promised fresh barrels each game. The more punters the more chance it continue as regular feature.
