  • Ah, forgot about Gary Ballance - just checked and Trott isnt in the squad, so , Ballance for Trott for me.
  • Hales really took his chance
  • headline was misleading.

Thought Cook and Hales were to miss out !!!

Ballance would be a good choice, I'd completely forgotten about him. Did well in the ODIs over in Australia last time... My revised team for WC in Aus then:

Hales, Ali, Ballance, Taylor, Root, Bopara, Buttler, Woakes, Broad(c), Finn, [Tredwell/Stokes if Root&Ali can get through 10-15 overs between them]

Then we bat all the way down to 9 or 10, while having seven bowling options.
  • One of these days we will have a situation whereby all, or at least the majority, of our batsmen will be in form and score bundles in the same match
  • One of these days we will have a situation whereby all, or at least the majority, of our batsmen will be in form and score bundles in the same match

Is that the day when we play Scotland at home, and next day we get slaughtered as usual by perm any one from seven?
  • As expected, Cook and Tredwell in for Hales and Stokes.

This, more than likely means that the World Cup squad will be this X1 plus Bell, Anderson, Broad and just one other.

  • England won the toss and put SL in.

    3-1

Finn snares Perera in the slips caught by Jordan.
  • 12-1 off 3. Dilshan 11 (12) & Sangakara 1 (4)

Need to break this partnership because Sangakara last three scores have been 67*, 63 and 86 and Dilshan averages just under 100 at this ground!
  • 54-2 off 9.4.

Dilshan (35 of 32) drags a ball from Jordan onto his stumps.
  • 59-3

Another excellent catch from Jordan, this time off Woakes and Jayawardene goes for 2. Good captaincy from Cook too as Jordan was put, as the only outfielder in a catching position, at 4th slip and the ball went straight to him.
  • Drinks at 75-3 off 16

  • Good to have those wickets, but they're still scoring pretty quickly.

    100-3 of 22

    Sangakara 38 (58) & Matthews 20 (38).

Tredders bowling well 4-1-13-0 aided by plenty of turn which is rather ominous given the number of spinners SL have in their side.
  • looks like we will be chasing 250+. Anything above 280 and we will be goonered.
  • 130-3 off 30.

Sangakara gets his 4th consecutive 50 against us.
  • 144-4 off 33.5

Matthews (40) tries to work it round off his legs off Jordan and only succeeds in giving catching practice all the way down to Woakes at fine leg.

  • 172-4 off 40

    Sangakara 75 (110) & Thirimanne 8 (18)
  • Tredders traps Thirimanne LBW. Appealed by batsman but review is turned down. Just reward for Tredders' bowling.

    173-5
  • 189-5 off 43.

Tredders finishes his spell with great figures of 10-2-33-1
  • Sangakara rather gives his wicket away by smashing Woakes to Root at "cow corner" for 91 (123) which, on this wicket, is a great score nevertheless.

    199-6 off 44.2
  • Sangakara rather gives his wicket away by smashing Woakes to Root at "cow corner" for 91 (123) which, on this wicket, is a great score nevertheless.

    199-6 off 44.2

Whats the matter with the wicket AA?
  • Absolute bizarre dismissal follows.

Woakes bowls a bouncer to Mendis who top edges it into his helmet and is cut as a result. He is also caught and bowled in the process so it is definitely a case of "adding insult to injury".

    202-7 off 45
  • The "chucker" Senenayake is bowled by Woakes for a duck.

    212-8 off 46.5
  • Perera after some lusty blows (27 off 17) is out in exactly the same way as Sangakar. Gives Woakes a very respectable 5-46

Game moving away from us a bit with SL on 238-9 off 48.4
  • Woakes cleans Mendis up to return figures of 8-0-47-6.

SL 239 all out off 49.
  • Match delayed by rain.
